Disambiguation

[edit]

@Robert McClenon: Thanks for moving and adding a comment on the draft for Draft:Burnett Township, Santa Clara County, California. I have a question: why is "Burnett Township (disambiguation)" not the appropriate disambiguation rather than Burnett County (disambiguation)? "Burnett County" refers to the counties named Burnett, not the townships. "Burnett Township" seems more appropriate because it already includes a list of townships with this name. More eyes

[edit]

This was moved to mainspace by a fairly new AfC reviewer who may not be aware of all the underlying issues. @Graywalls, Netherzone, and Left guide:, the source is freely released, but of course that was also written by Henderson. Any thoughts? Star Mississippi 15:00, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Star Mississippi, what is Local Wiki that is linked in your message? I'm not familiar with it. I haven't looked into the content and sources on the WP article yet, to see if there is SIGCOV in the sources or just mentions. If it seems like a redirect or merge is appropriate per consensus two possible targets would be Santa Clara County, or perhaps more precisely Santa Clara Valley which may make sense since the township no longer exists and has been absorbed into Santa Clara County, California. Just a thought, no strong feelings about this, other than it should be fact checked and the sourcing examined. Netherzone (talk) 15:22, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh sorry @Netherzone, it's the source of the text in this article. It's released under CC so it's not a copyvio, but since Henderson wrote that too I'm concerned about its validity since there's no quality control. Star Mississippi 15:49, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the Township would meet notability, still checking the sources. Netherzone (talk) 22:53, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Star Mississippi and Netherzone: so it looks like localwiki.org was used as an "off wiki" hosting of draft. I don't really know what he's doing that for. Graywalls (talk) 23:21, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A draft-o-pedia or a delete-o-pedia?[1] Netherzone (talk) 23:46, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Star Mississippi:, have you noticed how links within prose at Localwiki.org article created by Greg links to en.wiki?? Graywalls (talk) 23:24, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't, thanks. Looks like one of the umpteen sites that scrape drafts. I'm mostly back so happy to help where I can now. Star Mississippi 02:25, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Star Mississippi:, do you check commons much? I'm getting significant push back from someone over there for trying to clean out Henderson using the platform as a way of building the Henderson family genealogy. Graywalls (talk) 13:57, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't unfortunately. It seems to be another planet though as I experienced with Commons:Deletion requests/File:Город Алматы.webp when that editor was more easily handled on en Wiki. At one point earlier in Henderson I was looking for a commons admin and think one responded. Will look for that conversation and see if it helps? Star Mississippi 22:43, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Star Mississippi: You're probably referring to the archived discussion from my talk page at User talk:Left guide/Archive 2#Carmelopedia. Graywalls was part of that too. I flagged you because Henderson was edit-warring the infobox back into his mother's Commons category against Graywalls. One of the Wikidata admins deleted the entries for him and his mother on that project, which is where the infobox was being transcluded from. Left guide (talk) 23:55, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Netherzone and Star Mississippi:, see this Wikidata request and for context, see this entry. Graywalls (talk) 19:47, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So longterm indeffed editor defending another blocked editor without looking at merit. Charming.
Will think on some ideas. Thanks for flagging @Graywalls and @Left guide for the prior link. Missed your note last night Star Mississippi 02:11, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
