Historic center of Mexico CityHistoric Center of Mexico City – Harmonize with the Spanish Wikipedia article title. --Relisted. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:44, 21 April 2014 (UTC) --Oglesruins (talk) 04:10, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - doesn't seem to be a proper noun. Red Slash 21:56, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, per RedSlash; no idea why anybody would even think harmonizing with what some other wiki does should play any role here. Fut.Perf. 15:05, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Does Spanish use the same grammar rules that English does? No. So the underlying logic falls flat on it's face. Wikidata is the tool that manages these differences. Vegaswikian (talk) 01:03, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: En.WP is not es.WP. Even aside from language differences, our MOS is way more developed and nuanced than any other Wikipedia's. And English's handling of this stuff is much more complex than in Spanish, anyway. Plus it would be terribly ambiguous, even misleading, in English. A Center (Centre) capitalized in English means an institution of some kind (e.g. Center for Democracy and Technology). "Historic Center of Mexico City" would imply something completely different from this article, an organization that could be renamed the Center for Mexico City History.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  11:03, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Historic center of Mexico CityHistoric Center of Mexico City – Mmmm....I feel like I'm being picky, but "Historic Center of Mexico City" seems to be a proper noun (UNESCO being quite an authority I think, see here), and thus Center should be capitalized according to WP:NCCAPS. We also need to be consistent as there is differing capitalization for the "Historic Center/center/Centre/centre of Quito, Mexico City, Lima, Macau, Salvador, Florence, Trujillo, Morelia, Córdoba, etc. Perhaps we should go with the UNESCO usage considering them proper nouns and British spelling Keizers (talk) 03:16, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Barrio Chino within historic center?

[edit]

Is Barrio Chino within the historic center? If I search "Historic center of Mexico City" via Google Maps, Barrio Chino is outside the boundaries provided by Google. Curious if folks more familiar with boundaries can weigh in here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:25, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on the definition of what is considered "Centro histórico", but as the postal direction is "Barrio Chino, Centro, 06000", it is part of it. (CC) Tbhotch 04:49, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Google is NOT an authoritative source on neighborhood borders ANYWHERE, including my current city of Washington, D.C., and certainly not the definitions of colonias, such as Colonia Centro, whose boundaries are official boundaries of government administrative units, which are one level below that of the alcaldías, or boroughs. Here are the official boundaries; Centro's western border is Atenas street, and Barrio Chino is well within the borders of Colonia Centro. Google has huge mistakes for example, it calls this tiny area "Roma" when in fact it is officially a part of Roma Sur, and the Roma area - a gigantic place - does not exist as an official unit - it is split into Colonia Roma Norte and Colonia Roma Sur. New edit after EC

[edit]

User:Tbhotch after EC for 2 days, is this edit fine with you? is that an okay version to avoid further disagreements and counter edits? Kaidros (talk) 22:23, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For me it was OK. As I said at ANI, an independent article can be created for the subject (Draft:Rickshaws in Mexico City). (CC) Tbhotch 19:19, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
