Sourcing and spot checks[edit]

Per this revision

The article generally uses local news sources or government press releases, which are reliable in this context. I might suggest more consistent source formatting, like for Refs 99, 104 and 108 for "Chennai Metro" publisher parameter. checkY

I will like to point out, however, that Earwig highlights uses of copyvios, such as:

  • The article isn't in bad shape, but the route maps for example could be hidden, because it's pushing and sandwiching the text. checkY
  • The article is comprehensive enough, but I think some rewrites would be required especially for the sentence flow and so on, as highlighted in the previous GA review. I will suggest some copyedits.

  • I suggest following the style for New York City Subway as how the information is presented. So for example, the first paragraph could be rewritten as:
    • The Chennai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Chennai, India. Operated by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) – a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu – the network consists of two lines and spans 54.1 km (33.6 mi).     • Remarks: I don't think it's needed to mention colour-coded in the lead, since by default we know metro lines are colour-coded. Also, 5th longest doesn't seem to be noteworthy here, unless the metro continues to expand much more (50+km isnt very long tbh). checkY

  • Testing began in 2014, and the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety approved the operations in January 2015. The history mentioned how the metro was planned in two phases, so you can rewrite the history similarly to that. The construction of the first phase could be summarised in one paragraph. checkY

    • Are there any reactions to the reduction? I think also something missing is the community's views of the project as well. Stations were reduced as there were changes in alignment of route and some stations were moved by 100-200m. Norm is to have a station for every ~1km.
  • I'm also curious, for the first and second phases, are there like official groundbreaking ceremonies, minister visits or official inauguration? The Singapore MRT do hold celebrations when a new line segment opens. Being India, that happens at a larger scale and higher frequency. There are functions for everything from ground breaking, events like starting/ending of tunneling, opening of phases and sometimes even for new/modification of stations, bridges etc. The article uniformly mentions only important events as to when groundbreaking was held, line was opened etc. without going into the details of the people involved.
  • I also note this Phase II there isn't also as much mentions of the construction contracts awarded. Agree that compared to Phase I (which still elaborates a lot on the projects even after trimming down a lot), there is hardly any mention of contracts here. As there are three lines over a longer distance and a shorter timeline, a lot of different contracts awarded to multiple companies (rather than Phase I where mostly generalized contracts were given to limited entities) and few were extended (rolling stock, signalling etc.) Will see if I can add something here. checkY

  • Tata Projects was awarded the contract to construct select stations in October – I guess this is the first stations contract awarded? Would mention this. The first contract was already awarded to RVNL for underground stations, mentioned previously. This is for select elevated stations.
  • The CMRL invited new bids in March 2024 for the supply of 96 train-sets in the second phase – I guess also this is in addition to the previous 78 train sets Alstom is supplying? yes, mentioned so to be clear checkY

Future plans[edit]

  • In 2022, the state government proposed a revised extension plan spanning 93 km (58 mi) for the three under construction lines of the second phase. – Is this the extension of the second phase? Also I would move this into the Second Phase part checkY
  • In February 2023, feasibility study for the metrolite project was commissioned by the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) – This metrolite, is it related to the light rail project proposed? yes, it is part of a separate section with the word removed to avoid confusion checkY
  • Between late 2023 and early 2024, feasibility reports submitted by the CMRL suggested going ahead with two of the three planned extensions spanning – the two of three being of the aforementioned second phase extension? yes and elaborated checkY
  • I think truthfully the future plans section could be expanded and rewritten a bit more. There seems to be some gaps, especially when a reassessment implied a plan was cancelled or delayed. I would also be more precise in stating which extensions are part of which lines too. Have merged it with second phase as a part of extension and re-organized with the corresponding information w.r.t. the respective lines. checkY

Subsequent sections[edit]

  • I suggest merging the "network" section under "infrastructure". Also the information there is repetitive and could go into the history section. Just keep: As of March 2024, the operational network consists of two colour-coded lines covering a length of 54.1 km (33.6 mi). checkY
  • In fact, move it to be the first subsection, and the stations subsection right after. Followed by rolling stocks and depot. checkY
  • The financing part could be merged into the respective parts of the history as well. checkY
  • A total of 40 stations are operational along the two lines of the Phase 1 with 22 underground stations.A total of 40 stations, 22 of which are underground, are operational on the two existing lines of Phase 1. checkY
  • The incidents section is a bit trivial, but I would move to the history portion since it covers their construction. In the larger scope of the metro page, I would have shifted them to their respective station/line pages. checkY
