The Ultimate Adventure[edit]

His new cd, also inspired by a work of L. Ron Hubbard is will be released soon. He is currently promoting it. This should be included in the article. His current quintet is called "Touchstone"

"Current"[edit]

You shouldn't use the word 'current' in an encyclopaedia - this 'current' project you speak of is already dated. Corea is touring with a new group already (april 2006).

Scientology references[edit]

I think the Scientology reference needs to be stripped back, it's practically an advertisement for this religion/cult, one that is quite controversial and much maligned (not without due cause). Is this an item about a musician and his career? if so his religious leanings should not be given so much emphasis. Corea talks about ethics, what sort of code of ethics does "fair game" attempt to embrace: Fair Game (Scientology) Hubbard detailed his rules for attacking critics in a number of policy letters, including one often quoted by critics as "the Fair Game policy." This allowed that those who had been declared enemies of the Church, called "suppressive persons" or simply "SP," "May be deprived of property or injured by any means... Since your comment in August 2006, the Scientology/Inspiration section has become slightly more neutral. As it stands now, I don't think it's an advertisement for Scientology. It only details how Corea (in his own words) feels Scientology has inspired him. It's irrelevant to this article that you and I might think Scientology is a questionable religion/cult/moneymaking scheme with an alarming lack of scruples. Someone put back the sourced Joe Farrell remark you deleted because by Wikipedia policy you shouldn't have deleted it in the first place. Problem in Jazz Fusion[edit]

The second paragraph has a distorted comparison with Mahevishnu Orchestra. While Chick did place more emphasis on synthesizers, the Mahevishnu Orchestra far from shunned virtuosity. A lot of Mahevishnu tracks are little other than long John McLaughlin solos, where he played mostly fast notes. You understate your case significantly, both in what you mention, and how you state it. McLaughlin was not only fast, but, more importantly, versitile. Fast could refer to heavy metal power note shreds. McLaughlin is considered by many to be 1 of the best guitarists who ever lived, period. Should be changed.

Cuban Roots album[edit]

In 1967 Chick Corea played on Cuban Roots, a cuban/jazz instrumental experiment put together by Mark Weinstein. Due to a personal dispute the record company sunk the album and only 500 copies were made. A few years ago a Japanese company bought the master tapes and reissued the album on CD. Its a great album and has enjoyed a successful second life. The album focuses on horns and drums, but Corea's piano playing on the album is phenomenal. There are unsourced, POV assertions, given as if they were facts (and in some cases blatantly inaccurate) lacking citations. Seriously guys, how the heck is Chick Corea's Wikipidia article rated in the "b class" of importance. If anything, his article should be high priority. He should be in the a class. date of marriage[edit]

I tagged this for a Reliable Source; also 1972 seems far too early - in 1976, Al DiMeola and Lenny White both said Moran was Corea's "girlfriend", not wife. I propose that Chick Corea Elektric Band be merged into Chick Corea. The former has been unsourced since 2009, and that's plenty of time to realize it isn't going anywhere. It's unnecessary to have separate articles for all the bands a jazz musician forms or belongs to.

Merging isn't deleting. I'm asking because, if no one adds sources, I'm going to clean the article up, which will probably mean removing everything except a sentence or two that I can quickly find a source for (with my usual WP:BURDEN edit summary for such circumstances). Thanks, TanookiKoopa (I said I'd both add sources and clean it up – i.e. get rid of the rest). RandomGnome: how long do you think it's ok to leave an article with no sources and with an embarrassing template at the top? More than 11 years? There's only one person I know who's done more than I have to reduce the jazz project's backlog in the last few years, and that's Vmavanti, who proposed the merge here. It would be good to get more people actively involved in that, and the people who supported keeping this as a separate article seem like a logical place to start. EddieHugh I agree that it is far too long, and I thank you very much for your contributions to the jazz project. Jazz often doesn't get the respect it deserves. Case in point - there's now the bizarre situation of having to fight to get Chick Corea mentioned on WP:ITNRD (front page, recent deaths), his nomination likely to fail because the article doesn't meet some tightly interpreted, bureaucratic threshold. I don't want to belabor our disagreement over who should add sources, other than to refer you to my previous comment. Again, thank you for your work here. It was a useful start. Almost none of the commentary in the article was in the sources that you added, though, so I cut most of it and added sources/a small amount of detail from AllMusic. Early career[edit]

The text on his early professional career isn't perhaps as complete as it might be. In early 1962 it was reported that Chick was performing with the George Bright Quintet. Thanks User:Lester Mobley. I've created a clipping for the report on newspapers.comhttps://www.newspapers.com/clip/70452357/chick-corea-feb-11th-1962/ which should be accessible by those who do not have an account. That should suffice for as a reputable source. Why should it be included? It's clear from a number of other references, and reports on newspapers.com that Chick spent time before he is generally perceived to doing professional work, working the circuit. Chick himself has said he worked along side his Dad for a while, but then jumps over what happened next. As I wrote in my retrospective of Chick's early years, this period is always overlooked, as it is here, it's just assumed/implied that he got his professional start recording with Mongo Santamaria after moving on from gigging with his dad.--Cathcam (talk) 01:17, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the source, Cathcam. What it supports is that Corea played with Bright in 1962, but I don't see the point of adding such a sentence if we don't have any other context for it, and we don't have a page on Bright. The phrasing "began his professional career" does not quite represent the AMG biography; maybe that can be adjusted to avoid suggesting that these were his first professional jobs, rather than "formative experiences" as AMG has it.
