Actually, the video DOES have 26 million views. 26,957,000 to be exact. It needs to be changed back. gregshack (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:32, 11 June 2011 (UTC).[reply]
Whatever you're looking at is not the number of video views on Youtube. The total number of views is found here and shows 6,345,128 views as of this comment. How Personal Should We get?[edit]

I don't if we should get REALLY personal. I mean I know that she wants to stay a virgin until marriage, it's just that I don't know if I should post that. Just give me an answer below.

I personally think people's love life is not something that should be posted on the internet. If it's something she feels should be publicized, she can do it herself. Keep to the facts don't include the unneeded information. --Jared T 11:33, 23 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by JaredT90 (talkcontribs)

In my opinion I don't think we should. At least at this point. It's something she probably doesn't want the whole public to know about. It's not like she's a renowned celebrity (in the "how many ppl know you" sort of way) that has the media following her every second to squeeze out every bit of information they can. Until she gets to that point. I say no. 24.219.84.111 (talk) 07:56, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MyYoutube Competition[edit]

Please change Christina's 2nd place on the MyYoutube competition to 1st place. Below is my original post about this issue:

Under the Youtube recognition section it says Christina place 2nd in the MyYoutube competition, behind Selena Gomez. Although youtube never announced the rankings among the top 5 artists, Christina actually placed 1st (with Selena taking the number 2 spot). I looked everywhere for proof, but since youtube only announced the top 5 artists with no specific order, it was impossible. The best I could do was this video where Christina announces she won, and this video where Selena acknowledges Christina taking the lead near the end of the competition. --Kevinballinas (talk) 11:05, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I found an article by Billboard which shows the total votes for both Christina and Selena on Feb 2nd (Cristina- 153,000 & Selana-150,047). Unfortunately, they did not update it with the final vote count, although they posted the article on the day the contest ended.--Kevinballinas (talk) 00:57, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Grimmie did not stop doing covers after June 2012[edit]

Hi,

The first section reads: «In June 2012, she told a reporter that she wanted to stop doing covers and start writing only original music.» (with a citation). However, it is already March 2013 now, and Ms. Grimmie has still been doing covers such as this cover of Rihanna’s “Stay”. Should this note be removed?

Misheard lyrics on "The Voice"[edit]

Does anyone know why Grimmie deliberately sang "play with matches" instead of "play with magic" for her "Dark Horse" cover on "The Voice"? Was it some sort of honest mistake, or does she have a problem with the word "magic"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:C445:18C9:218:F3FF:FEF1:1346 (talk) 01:32, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stating the obvious: Grimmie's official Facebook has added a banner giving a death date of 10 June; however, since all our news sources say early Saturday 11 June EDT (the Associated Press speficially wrote, "she died early Saturday"), that should remain until we have a reliable source saying otherwise. 🖖ATS / Talk 21:31, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Death[edit]

Is the information about all the condolences necessary? It seems like a bit much. I'm looking through other people's deaths on Wiki and I'm not finding anything else like it. On the other hand, however, it provides information on other celebrities' reactions. Up to you guys. (YourAuntEggma (talk) 03:51, 12 June 2016 (UTC))[reply]

I've added a subsection for "Response", which is a common feature in death sections, since the responses have grown to such a large number. Crumpled Fire (talk) 04:01, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Crumpled Fire, I've searched and cannot find anything resembling a similar article with anything resembling a Response section. (There are Aftermath sections, but for people whose deaths had a significant cultural impact.) Are you aware of any? 🖖ATS / Talk 04:30, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Robin Williams has "Tributes", Prince has "Remembrances", Steve Irwin has "Reactions"... can't find any with the exact term "Response" at the moment, but I was certain I'd seen it here before. Do we have any official guideline on Death subsections? Either way, I do think that there's a bit of undue weight to responses unless it gets its own section. Crumpled Fire (talk) 04:39, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not if it's contained to the relevant, IMO. That said, I was thinking about changing it to Reaction, and your reply seems to validate that idea. Cheers! 🖖ATS / Talk 04:43, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
YourAuntEggma, it's common, and relevant—if, as is the case here (so far), it's limited to those with whom she had a significant relationship. It should be noted that celebs as disparate as Jay Pharoah and William Shatner have tweeted reactions, and—correctly—they are not included. (Edit: that said, on further review Jordan Smith and Amy Vachal are really peripheral, from an encyclopedic POV, so that's gone.) 🖖ATS / Talk 04:07, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. It's not necessarily limited to those with whom she has any sort of relationship with though, "significant" or otherwise. It's all about whatever receives significant coverage in notable sources. Which of course is our regular editing guideline, though so soon after such an event, there is a bit more leeway, I think. Sort of an unwritten rule.
It's pretty much par for the course with the passing of any celebrity. When the death is recent, it tends to become a bit "bloated", as it were... But as time goes on, the section will be trimmed to include only the most significant of those memorialising mentions; by that, I mean primarily those events which were the subject of rather significant (and not passing) coverage, and brief quotes from those (as ATS) said, those closest to her, and those people who are considered "strong voices" (those whose remarks are often de facto considered significant, such as politicians and industry notables). For now, if an editor wants to add something, it should be discussed on the talk page so that the community can decide what to include as far as relevance and weight. I've seen articles become so overladen with such mentions that they take up nearly half the space of the article. "Reactions"/"Responses" sections though, as noted by others, are both relevant and common. And the naming of the section is apt as well. Quinto Simmaco (talk) 14:18, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Killer's name[edit]

Can we remove his name and if there's a news story about it link that so the readers can click that? I don't think we should display his name, it's too humane for a murderer like him, and it's disrespectful to Christina to have his name on her page. Nyantatata (talk) 23:04, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not censored. 107.15.152.93 (talk) 23:15, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Would taking his name out of the first sentence in the section be a compromise? His name would still be included in the section, therefore not censored, but less prominently placed. Knope7 (talk) 04:40, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Knope7: I'm genuinely a bit confused by your question. In this particular instance, why does the placement matter? It seems relevant to include it in the lede, in my humble opinion. And with whom are we compromising? Quinto Simmaco (talk) 14:36, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The killer's name is not in the lede and it is inappropriate for the lede.Knope7 (talk) 02:37, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The killer's name does not need to be in the lede, but should be a prominent part of the section on her death, as he is the reason she is dead. His name is not on there to be offensive to her fans, but as a record of what happened to her. It is quite relevant. MordeKyle (talk) 20:44, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Quite correct—and the current version seems to address this properly. 🖖ATS / Talk 21:07, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Assassination"[edit]

Is this really the best term to use for the section about Christina's murder? 209.90.140.72 (talk) 01:47, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, "Murder" is a better term to title it. "Assassination" usually applies to high ranking officials like presidents, royal families, amd religious leaders. Can someone please change the title? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.84.106.44 (talk) 02:25, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It has been used for famous musicians as well - John Lennon assasination, Selena Quintanilla Perez. It was a public murder of a famous person - I suppose this could be considered an assassination.--Bellerophon5685 (talk) 17:23, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New thumbnail caption[edit]

Re: [2] [3]

@ATS: - Apology unnecessary, but strangely refreshing. My edit is supported by this language at MOS:CAPTION: "Captions should be succinct; more information about the image can be included on its description page, or in the main text." It is also entirely consistent with my experience, which appears to differ from yours. Do you have any guideline support for your revert? ―Mandruss  06:45, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ATS Can't exactly see what you're referring to. But I confess I didn't try extra hard, since Wikipedia-wide guidelines are not established in one isolated GA review - or 2, or 3, or 4. Seems a very thin rationale to me. ―Mandruss  07:09, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Quite possibly, but Johanna (relatively young account notwithstanding) is one of the most prolific GAN reviewers and the opinion stuck with me as a valid one. It made sense to me, given NFCC, to err on the side of caution rather than have an image yanked for an insufficient rationale. Make sense? 🖖ATS / Talk 07:14, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ATS: I believe that rationale belongs in the file description, not the thumbnail caption, no reflection on Johanna. As a matter of orderly process, I don't think it matters that "the opinion stuck with me as a valid one". If it's to apply site-wide, it needs to be in the guidelines. Community consensus resides in policy, guidelines, RfCs, and sometimes a non-RfC discussion in a very public venue. I don't think a GA review qualifies as a very public venue, considering that in 3 years I've yet to have the time to visit one but often participate in such consensus-forming discussions at Village Pump. ―Mandruss  07:22, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. My thanks for a very civil discussion. 🖖ATS / Talk 07:24, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ATS: Thanks and you concede the issue, or thanks and wait for other participation? You're welcome. ―Mandruss  07:27, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ATS: @Mandruss: I actually do think that the rationale should be on the file description page. I can see why my comment may have been confusing, but I just expanded the caption there for reader ease. The rationale on the file page was detailed enough (if I remember correctly), but the concise caption was not clear about why the screenshot was important. Excessive and useless internal linking[edit]

Especially found in the Death section. Is it really necessary to provide wikilinks to Handguns, magazine and hunting knife? There are also multiple occurrences of Before You Exit within the same section -- I'm sure it is already linked nearer to the beginning of the article. It makes this section look sloppy. --SlimJimTalk 08:23, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The relevant guideline is MOS:OVERLINK. Bullet 1 suggests removing the links for those everyday words. "Generally, a link should appear only once in an article, but if helpful for readers, a link may be repeated in infoboxes, tables, image captions, footnotes, hatnotes, and at the first occurrence after the lead." suggests removing the second of the two links to Before You Exit in that section. ―Mandruss  08:51, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of final performance image[edit]

Seraphimblade, I don't follow your removal. There are two free images, sure; but this image was of her performance before she was killed, so obviously future such images ain't gonna happen—as in, this was it. It was properly transformative. Why pull it? 🖖ATS / Talk 10:48, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There are already two free images of her in concert. A third is decorative and disallowed under the nonfree content criteria; it doesn't show anything the other two don't. Wikipedia is not a memorial, even in the case of tragic events, and it's not acceptable to use nonfree content for that purpose. If there existed no free images of her performing, such an image might be acceptable after her death, but they do exist and are already in the article. The "nonfree usable after death" exemption only applies to people there weren't free images of before they died. Seraphimblade Talk to me 11:02, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"See also" section[edit]

The see also section primarily consists of links to pages about other murders of famous singers/famous singers who were murdered. This doesn't quite feel right to me, should we change it, or is there a good reason to keep it there? I don't think the loose thematic similarities justifies it, especially because this is a page about a human who did notable work while she was still alive, and isn't only notable just because she died. - Mikkim64 (talk) 04:41, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The "See also" is valid. And beneficial to the readers. See the policy WP:SEEALSO. It states as follows. The links in the "See also" section might be only indirectly related to the topic of the article because one purpose of "See also" links is to enable readers to explore tangentially related topics. You state: "this is a page about a human who did notable work while she was still alive, and isn't only notable just because she died". That statement also applies to the others in the "See also" list. John Lennon didn't do any notable work while he was still alive? John Lennon is only notable because he died? Is that your claim? Those other people on the list also did notable work while alive. You yourself called them "famous", which is another word for "notable". They were all "famous" (notable) before their deaths, not because of their deaths. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 04:58, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Justin Bieber[edit]

Several outlets are reporting that Bieber lay on stage at his concert in Winnipeg, singing "Grimmie, can you hear me?" after an emotional dedication of the song "Purpose". Starting here and then cited by others, we're told Bieber knew Grimmie through his ex, Selena Gomez.

However, there's no notable tie. Bieber and Grimmie never collaborated, near as I can tell. The only reason I can see to put it in the article is that it's Justin Fucking Bieber. (So I haven't. ) Thoughts? 🖖ATS / Talk 20:54, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with User:ATS here, there is no reason to include this. Chabgo (talk) 22:31, 14 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly, Stevie Nicks[edit]

... who has dedicated "Touched By an Angel" to Orlando's victims including Grimmie and her family. This is a "new" dedication of an old (2001) song; a new song for this purpose would almost certainly merit inclusion. 🖖ATS / Talk 01:31, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RfC: Photo of Grimmie's killer[edit]

There is a clear consensus to exclude driver's license photo of Christina Grimmie's killer, Kevin James Loibl, from Christina Grimmie's article. Cunard (talk) 22:26, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

I uploaded the driver's license photo of Christina Grimmie's killer, Kevin James Loibl, in Commons. Shall it be added in the article? --George Ho (talk) 06:49, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • No. No similar article (single shooter, single victim—regardless of fame) that I've yet found includes a photo of the perp. (The most pertinent examples would be Death of John Lennon, Dimebag Darrell, John Lennon, Murder of Selena, Rebecca Schaeffer, Selena, and Theresa Saldana, none of which includes a perp photo. Yes, I'm aware of OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, but an oh-fer is most telling.) Loibl doesn't rise to the level of, say, a mass killer or a terrorist, where inclusion within such an incident's article is appropriate. 🖖ATS / Talk 06:56, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Unlike with a mass shooting where there is a "Perpetrator" subsection where his image would be fit to include, the only section it could feasibly go under here is "Death", which is about Grimmie's death, not about the perp, so it isn't appropriate. If Death of Christina Grimmie survives its AFD nom, we could discuss adding it there. — Crumpled Firecontribs 03:35, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, I do not see how adding the killer's photo adds any educational value to the article. Seraphimblade Talk to me 19:59, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - As per all of the reasons above. I don't see any reason to include this photo. It does not add anything educational or informational to the article. To me, it is irrelevant and just adds extra and unnecessary information. In addition, I haven't found any other Wikipedia articles that include photos of the killers or offenders. Date of death now corrected and sourced[edit]

She died on June 10th. Her family even confirmed her death on June 10th and her funeral service flyers say June 10th 2016. Please fix this Lexorcist666 (talk) 10:10, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

USA Today reported that she died "about five hours later" after being shot. As she was shot on June 10 around 10 PM, "five hours later" obviously means the next day; and many sources did explicitly report that she died on June 11. Contradictorily, The Washington Post reported that she died on June 10. I don't know which one we should consider as more reliable. -- ChamithN (talk) 10:37, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The numerous sources reporting "early Saturday morning" and the Associated Press specifically saying June 11, coupled with the Orlando PD tweet at 02:11 EDT saying, "Christina remains in critical condition", overrides for me. OPD confirmed her death 40 minutes later. Of course, it is always possible that official pronunciation came much earlier and OPD wasn't informed in a timely manner; I have sent emails to OPD and the OCME's Office looking for clarity; if it comes, I'll certainly pass it on. 🖖ATS / Talk 19:19, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Update: The OPD PIO emailed me today's investigative supplement, which states, "Christina was treated by Orlando Fire Department Rescue #6 and transported by ambulance to Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) where she was pronounced dead by Dr. Jillian Davison at 22:59 hours." None of the news sources I've yet seen includes this nugget, so I'm still searching. (Compounding the problem is the spread by several agencies of the Associated Press update that says she was shot on June 11, which is clearly in error.) Once we have WP:RS, we'll fix it. Meantime, I just got off the phone with the reporter at the Orlando Sentinel, and the reporter at WKMG; each says she will try to include this in the next update. 🖖ATS / Talk 20:40, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Update update (): Our inestimable thanks to OPD PIO Sgt. Wanda Miglio, WKMG reporter Michelle Dendy and Orlando Sentinel reporter Gal Tziperman Lotan. The article is now correct and sourced. (Whew!) 🖖ATS / Talk 21:31, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, thank you too, for all you did to provide accurate information in the article. -- ChamithN (talk) 03:44, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Much obliged, ChamithN. My gut—and past experience—told me that the family was right; after all, they'd've been notified first. We're fortunate OPD included this data in their supplement. 🖖ATS / Talk 04:12, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Voice - Apologize[edit]

During her time on The Voice she sang the song "Apologize",[1] but I don't see anything about the performance on her Wikipedia entry. I can't find enough information to add it to the chart, but think it should be on it. On the same topic, she also sang "All of the Stars" with Ed Sheeran. I just want to know, is there a reason for their exclusion? Trickstercard101 (talk) 06:14, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I rather like including "Apologize" (if only within the table) given that her coach used the performance to ask voters to save Grimmie's place in the competition. "All of the Stars" was a non-competition performance, and skews against WP:IINFO. IMO. —ATS 🖖 Talk 06:23, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship[edit]

Should we add a sentence in her "Personal life" section about the relationship she had with an American producer Stephen Rezza? From Stephen's Instagram, it is very clear that they had a romance. Unfortunately, there is no trustworthy source that proves their relationship other than an article which briefly mentions it with no proof. --Gun21000 (talk) 07:50, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox photo[edit]

The photo in the infobox is blurry and generally not of great quality. There's a much nicer one further down in the article. Would it make sense to switch the two? Armadillopteryxtalk 15:14, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Murder notability revisited[edit]

Since the AfD, the murder has been getting WP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE for two years. And a five-part podcast about her death is a textbook example of the aftermath which can demonstrate notability of the murder. wumbolo ^^^ 17:48, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The profile picture should be changed.[edit]

You can only see 75% of her face, and the quality is not that great either. Plus, further down the article there is another picture from the same night. What's the point of having two pictures from the same event in one article? So, can someone change it? I already tried and it got removed, my bad! Should "What a Girl Is" go under Singles AND Music videos?[edit]

Right now it's completely missing from this article. Does that song not go on Grimmie's page at all because technically it was a Liv and Maddie release?

For reference, here's the music video on Grimmie's YouTube

and here's some copy-paste from the Liv and Maddie: Music from the TV Series article:

"What a Girl Is" featuring Christina Grimmie and Baby Kaely, was released on March 5, 2015 as the fifth and final promotional single.[1]

A question[edit]

Why would someone ruin so many lifes just because they loved someone who didn't love them back?

Her family are scared for life and many people who were at the concert must have been shocked to see such a beautiful singer suddenly wounded. I need answers. Pebblez Playz (talk) 10:28, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why is her murder not mentioned in the lede[edit]

I'd suggest that her death by shooting is a significant aspect of her overall biography, and there should be at least some brief mention of it made in the lede. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:11, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reference Glimpse of us[edit]

Reference from writer - https://www.instagram.com/p/CtUpeRFxgRf/?hl=en From the post: June 10th. Two of the most pivotal moments of my life have happened on this date. June 10, 2016. - we lost a very dear friend, Christina Grimmie. I never could have prepared for the effects this night would have on my life. Being that the tragedy of losing Christina happened at our own show near where I grew up, this was very close to home both literally and figuratively. It took years of strong friendships and rebuilding to feel like a functioning human again, but it is something that will live with me forever. There were many different waves of real depression unlike I had ever known before that night. In times of sadness, my way of healing has always been writing songs. June 14, 2019 - a few days after the 3 year anniversary of losing Christina, I was really struggling at this time and life just didn’t make sense. On this day, there’s a voice memo I made of a song calling out to God where I asked “If I could only catch a glimpse of you”. 6 months later, Dec 16, 2019 - I had a last minute writing session on a rainy Sunday with @connormcdonough, @i_am_castle_, and @idarosemusic. Many times in sessions I will just scroll the titles of my voice memos to see if anything jumps out. This day I saw the voice memo labeled ‘Glimpse’ and said “I love the word glimpse for something” and an entirely new idea was born. The song ‘Glimpse of Us’ was created that day. It wasn’t until two years later, Joji heard the song and after some changes, the final version was made. June 10, 2022 - ‘Glimpse of Us’ was released to the world and went on to become the most successful song of our career as well as our first extremely notable work as songwriters. It wasn’t until recently that I remembered what was said in that initial voice memo those years ago. Calling out for some bit of a sign. I now see that what I got back was tenfold to what I could have ever imagined. I write this to say that you never truly know the beauty that is constantly forming from the pain. Our hurt is never wasted. This is why I will forever pour my heart into everything I ever make. Sending only love. Thank you for listening. SGpro123 (talk) 07:24, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
