Breathtakingly uninformative[edit]

This is one of the most breathtakingly uninformative articles I have ever read.

  • The section on demographics fails to give the population of the city.
  • The biggest section of the article, on income, gives incredibly detailed analysis of statistics on income, leaving the reader with virtually no idea what the figures mean.
  • There is not much else.

Please, please someone write a decent article on this city in which I used to live.

Since you have at least lived in Maitland and we haven't, perhaps you could expand the article, especially as you seem to know where it's gone wrong? --AussieLegend (talk) 11:19, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't take umbrage so easily. I was quite small when I lived there and I don't have access to information that would help me write a better article. My criticisms still stand and would be obvious to anyone reading the article. I don't have a monopoly on knowing "where it's gone wrong".

No one's taking umbrage. I think what AussieLegend was suggesting was that the point of Wikipedia is that you spot these deficiencies and then you go and fix them. I'm sure we all agree that there's a lot to be done on this article. Perhaps it's just not quite so high on some of our to-do lists. Frickeg (talk) 05:47, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Proposed Amalgamation Section[edit]

I have removed the "Proposed Amalgamation" section as the information is incorrect and the reference citations are not valid or dead links. 202.59.23.38 (talk) 00:30, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The links to the citations are dead and/or not accessible to the public and the amalgamation information is not correct. NedScopMCC (talk) 01:08, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not correct that an amalgamation proposal was not implemented? The citationa may be archived somewhere. 331dot (talk) 01:16, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I work for the council, the information is not correct. The citations have no council approval nor correct. How would you like the justification verified, a citation to please refer to www.maitland.gov.au as this is the source of all council operations.. The Council cannot approve or deny approval of article content. The main purpose of a Wikipedia article is to summarize what independent reliable sources say about the topic. You as the representative of the Council have no more authority here than any other editor. You need to stop edit warring and discuss this with us.
I am not sure what the link to your council website is supposed to show. If it is incorrect that an amalgamation proposal was discussed but not implemented, that would mean the opposite is true, that it was discussed and implemented. It is true that the citations do not work- but perhaps other sources are available. The other editors here might have something to say about this(Aggarwala2727, JayCubby. 331dot (talk) 01:34, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll see what Council will want to do next wrt to this information and a "reliable source" citation that would debunk it. NedScopMCC (talk) 02:16, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@NedScopMCC: Dead links are not a reason to remove content. See WP:LINKROT RudolfRed (talk) 01:49, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As an officer of the council and noted in the change as well as on my user page CoI. I have addressed the requirements to request the change. The change has been requested by the Mayor of the City of Maitland CIty Council. NedScopMCC (talk) 01:58, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia does not care about the wishes of the Mayor. It cares about what has been written in reliable independent published sources. Maproom (talk) 08:18, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It wouldn't matter if Prime Minister Albanese or King Charles requested it. 331dot (talk) 08:33, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point, freedom of speech and independent sources. I'll adopt the consensus approach as per BRD.. NedScopMCC (talk) 11:17, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
