NPOV phrasing

[edit]

Hello, I have changed the phrasing of two passages herein, and I would like to present my rationale.

  • The word "unplanned" is unnecessary to describe a pregnancy achieved while using contraception.
  • The word "risk" to describe any pregnancy is rather strange: "risk" has the negative connotation of an unwelcome and harmful thing, such as the "risk" of an airline crashing or the "risk" of war breaking out. Pregnancy is a natural human function, and the single most important one we have, so to describe it as a "risk" is decidedly not neutral! I hope that Wikipedians, along with health care professionals, especially OB/GYNs, would agree that fertility and childbirth are not disorders, syndromes, or diseases to be cured. You WP editing team (up to 3) AKB, RP, RFS Initial Analysis of the article The article appears to have all relevant sections however the information is sparse and the order of these sections could be edited to allow for better flow of information. Overall organization, what changes

What will you add? More details are required in nearly every subsection (very sparse information). Sub-section in medical use for non-contraceptive purposes. Discuss appropriate usage (differences in effectiveness without using it in this way). Add a summary”types” section (maybe table with correct use, efficacy, availability). What will you remove? We want to remove the Special populations section and merge it into a new “Considerations for medical use” section discussing contraindications. We will also remove the health benefits section and include necessary details in our new “non-contraceptive use” section. What will you augment? Adverse effects: add contra-indications for each type. What will you decrease coverage of? We don’t believe decreased coverage is needed in any sections. Roles in the project. List members and planned roles. Possible roles include: Overseer/amalgamator/reconciler Readability editor Researcher Editor/writer-what sections will each do? Linker, for larger groups consider some one who will check the articles linked to make sure that the linked material is sufficient and accurate Images/graphics Other? We have decided to sign up for sections.

Summary-do at end together Medical Use- AKB Contraceptive use Non-contraceptive use (include health benefits) Types (table with formulation, efficacy, availability)-RFS Usage-how to use effectively, effectiveness, details on improper usage, hormone formulations (brief range) Mechanism of action-RFS Treatment considerations - RP Pros and cons for each one Adverse reactions, side-effects, life-style considerations Drug interactions - RP Epidemiology- AKB History - RP Team coordination plan: Options might include, regular team meetings, sharing calendars, setting up a place to keep your work in order to edit collaboratively (this might be the sandbox, or it might be Box or DropBox or Slack, or other) We will meet on 9/8/21 to work on the article for a significant amount of time. During this meeting we will evaluate how much work we have completed and figure out a game plan to have a reasonable first draft by 9/13. We will also be meeting on 9/17/21 to finalize our presentation for the next week and respond to peer edits. WIP presenter Each of us present our sections.

Non-contraceptive Use Section

[edit]

Your page looks great, and the images help me understand/visualize the content. In the non-contraceptive use section you could possibly link each of the medical terms you use to other wikipedia articles to help readers understand the medical jargon better. You do a great job explaining a variety of uses for each individual combined hormonal contraception.

Pictures- general and mechanism of action

[edit]

Current picture can be moved to the mechanism of action section and a more general picture of CHC (e.g. picture of patch etc.) can be used as the main picture. Ihaveexamonfriday (talk) 18:42, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Drug Interactions

[edit]

Your page looks great! One comment is that this section feels super specific and out of place--you could consider removing it entirely Lkwarteng (talk) 18:56, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Visuals and Font Appearance

[edit]

Hi all, great work on this page! A suggestion I made in class discussion was including photos of the different types of CHC's in their respective rows in the super helpful chart you've made as an orientation to Wiki users who may not be familiar with the different forms. I second the previous recommendation about using a more general photo for your header photo and then saving the biological hormonal signaling pathway for the Mechanisms of Action section. Finally, right now for the Drug Interactions section there's some inconsistency in font with Lamotrigine (although I wasn't sure if that was purposefully meant to be a subheading), but right now it looks a bit awkward since its the only subheading within that section. Let me know if you want to chat more and excited to see your future additions!
