Cyberpunk 2013

[edit]

There should be a section on the first edition of Cyberpunk. Does anyone have the original material to help verify material? -- Rossumcapek 02:15, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should we have 3 pages (one for each of the editions)? I don't think so, but the name of the page actually refers to the 2nd edition. (first ed. was "Cyberpunk 2013"...) Tajoman 02:30, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think this page should move to Cyberpunk (role-playing game) with material on all three editions. 2020 came out only a few years after 2013, and 203X only has the one book thus far; While 2020 has more material, it's impossible to talk about one edition without discussing and incorporating the others. Rossumcapek 06:39, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think that sounds like a good idea. I think we should still have the CP2020 page, but have it be an "alias" (ie, have it redirect automatically) to the Cyberpunk Rpg page... I guess that would work alright. If we find that we start to have to much to say about a particular edition, then we could split the page into one per edition. Right? Tajoman 22:11, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Now renamed from "Cyberpunk 2020" to "Cyberpunk (role-playing game)". Hexene (talk) 16:34, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the edit, added a link to 2013 because I wanted more info on it before checking the discussion page... Gomez 01:54, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

While having them all in one place makes sense for convenience, 2020 definately has the largest fan base. Wisdom000 23:55, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Er... there's something wrong indeed. The first edition (1988) was called "Cyberpunk" only and not "Cyberpunk 2013". The suffix 2013 only came later to differentiate it from the second edition, "Cyberpunk 2020". Until this new edition, no one ever talked about CP as CP2013. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.57.187.76 (talk) 23:55, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberpunk 3 Fansites

[edit]

Are there any other fansites for CyberPunk 3 other than the BlackHammer Project 3?The HellHound 101 20:29, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure you could, Aggy, but that wouldn't be very nice. Sure, BH3 is my own site, but I was hoping to be able to link to other CP3 sites in addition to mine in the links portion of the page. The HellHound 101
Aw, takin' away my fun. Oh vell. --Agamemnon2 22:37, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other than your site Hound, the only V3 sites I have come across have been yahoo clubs and the like, none of them ever seemed very active either.Wisdom000 23:54, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

BlackHand & SilverHand

[edit]

I'm removing the reference to Morgan Blackhand & Johnny Silverhand being brothers because I haven't been able to find a reference to it in any of the cyberpunk 2020 literature. If anyone has a reference for this, cite it please. --The HellHound 101 04:20, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest the subsection is split off into its own article, as it's getting to be quite weighty, and would add to the clarity of the CP2020 article, as well as allow for more information on the Cybergeneration products to be added. --Agamemnon2 17:34, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The link to Cyberpunk on Geekdo (Boardgamegeek) is missing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.57.187.76 (talk) 00:00, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Status of Cybergeneration as Canon

[edit]

The carbon plague is explicitly mentioned as part of the 203X timeline under 2020 along with it's attendant side effects of cyberevolution on kids, so it's part of the same core timeline and setting. Just FYI.

Supposed cellphone anachronism

[edit]

I took out this sentence "The fictional timeline, trying to depict an early 21st century from a 1980s perspective, contains some anachronisms such as not foreseeing the adoption of cell phones as the preferred mode of communication." This is a reference to William Gibson saying his early books seemed strange because there were no cellphones. However, Cyberpunk 2020 does have cellphones. --Mujokan (talk) 16:59, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline section is problematic

[edit]
  • The setting timeline takes way, way, way too much space, is utterly trivial and should not exist in its present form. If reference is to be made to the specific events in the setting timeline, they need to be seriously condensed from the current year-by-year listing. --Agamemnon2 (talk) 19:34, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

San Fransisco

[edit]

The image Cyberpunk 2020 Night City.jpg spells San Francisco as "San Fransisco". Is that how the game spells the city, or is there an error in the image? Kaid100 (talk) 14:26, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I presume it's an error.
The location of Night City on the map also appears to be near Marina, CA. However, the Cyberpunk creator has said that the actual location is Morro Bay, CA:
___
"I'm surprised that this is news; I wrote this out years ago and it's no secret. I picked the location because it matched the general terrain and geology I wanted, and was at a choke point on the Cali coast that would be perfect for the Free State. The names were generally picked out of a hat from all the places I've lived in California over the years--there's no real rhyme or reason there.
Here's a reconstruction of what I was doing back then in 1980-something... https://ibb.co/crT0j7
Yes, the Rock is to the very north of Night City in my original design. I just didn't point it out at the time. In my personal campaigns, it's been built into a fortress/arcology kind of like a mini Gibraltar. But your mileage may vary.
However, remember that Night City is a heavily fictionalized locale and there's no reason that the end result has to look like Morro Bay. I've given CDPR plenty of room to mess with stuff as they see fit. So don't take this musing about a 30 year old decision too seriously, neh?" - therealmaxmike (R. Talsorian Games)

Cyberpunk 2020 MUDs

[edit]

There are several Cyberpunk 2020 MUDs and I would love to see which ones best represent Cyberpunk as an online text game. Lionjim (talk) 02:02, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberpunk Arasaka's Plot (J2ME)

[edit]

There was also a J2ME 2D platformer game named Cyberpunk: Arasakas's Plot by Mayhem Studio. All official links on game or studio websites are now dead unfortunately. It was released in 2007 as this[1] page says, and there is no cached version of their old site because it made in Flash. I added it to the 'Video Game' section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.208.126.122 (talk) 17:37, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

World

[edit]

Descriptions of the in-universe information about the world do not fit the encyclopedic tone of wikipedia. Added tags to indicate this.

J.Hohne (talk) 07:41, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There are now secondary sources linking to BoardGameGeek, ComicBook.com, Dicebreaker, Meeple Mountain, Polygon, RPGGeek and RPGnet. I believe it is now suitably encyclopedic, and that we can remove the Refimprove and Primary sources notices. Any thoughts, please? Hexene (talk) 17:56, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Any objections please to now removing the More citations needed and Primary sources tags? Thanks. Hexene (talk) 21:20, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
N.B. They've now been removed. Hexene (talk) 18:15, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Heading reorganization

[edit]

Currently notes on the game setting and game mechanics are beneath the headings for the first and second editions of the game. I propose extracting essentially universal details out into their own sections. The sections for each edition would keep information unique to that edition (fictional timeline for example). Hexene (talk) 19:46, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is now done. Hexene (talk) 16:17, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I see a LOT of articles in the Category:Cyberpunk (role-playing game), but I didn't see any kind of navbox for the bottom of the pages. Would anyone be opposed to me building one? StevePrutz (talk) 14:48, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me! Go for it. :) Hexene (talk) 19:55, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Specifically for this game category? Honestly most of those articles should probably be deleted as non-notable. The supplements fail general Wikipedia notability standards and realistically shouldn't have articles. I don't have the heart to nominate them, but if someone else comes along half the articles in RPGs in general should likely be gotten rid of as non-notable. Canterbury Tail talk 20:11, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have no experience with the RPG or associated franchise. Here is my current draft: *User:Steveprutz/cyberpunktemplate*. Again, it's unfinished and hacked together (and I am mostly ignorant). I am totally open to suggestions. StevePrutz (talk) 20:57, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For review, here's the navbox: {{Cyberpunk (game franchise)}}. It isn't in use (yet). StevePrutz (talk) 15:42, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think Canterbury Tail makes a good argument for not including it, sorry Steveprutz Hexene (talk) 18:13, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Genre

[edit]

The short description and lead give it the Dystopian genre, while the infobox says Science fiction. Which is it going to be? Sciencefish (talk) 11:22, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Well science fiction is the general overall genre. Ultimately rather than dystopian it's quite clearly, Cyberpunk. All depends on whether we want to use the top level genre or a specific sub-genre. Dystopian is not the right answer in my mind. For the opening sentence I'd actually use science-fiction here. Canterbury Tail talk 13:19, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, we should probably change to "science fiction". Hexene (talk) 18:11, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How many Cyberpunk 2020 books and supplements were there?

[edit]

I believe the statement that there were six Cyberpunk 2020 novels is false, so I've marked it as "Citation needed". I believe there were only two novels specifically written for 2020. Goodreads.com lists them, The Ravengers (1995) and Holo Men (1996), both by Stephen Billias. Hexene (talk) 21:17, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I believe you are correct there. Canterbury Tail talk 21:57, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've corrected this, citing fantasticfiction.com. Hexene (talk) 16:01, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
