American spelling[edit]

What is the justification for declaring this article to be in American English and not to be changed without discussion? The article has an obvious strong national tie to India. Indian English generally follows the British English spelling rules. The article also has a noticeable connection with Britain. I see no connection whatsoever to America. It was written in American English. See WP:ENGVAR.
That said, you're quite right that there's a strong national tie to India (not modern Britain), even if they carry an unfortunate colonial legacy of misspelling words. — LlywelynII 04:45, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I realise it was written in American English, and I wasn't criticising you for that. My objection was to the template declaring that it should not be changed (and my objection was on the grounds of the ENGVAR guideline as I think you now have realised).
