"Possible face turn"

OK, let's just set the record straight: Fans cheered when Batista (kayfabe) quit WWE because he was leaving, NOT because he decided to quit Evolution. This does NOT signify a face turn, but rather the fans were happy to see Batista gone. (See X-Pac heat) Additionally, there are no reliable sources suggesting that Batista will be a babyface when he comes back after SummerSlam, and that includes the various wrestling dirt sheet sites. Even Dave Meltzer--who is about as reliable on that information as you're gonna get--has made no comment on it. Any thoughts? Jgera5 (talk) 17:45, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Filipino American?

Hello, Batista is not full-blooded a Filipino because his mother is of Greek descent should you change "Filipino American" to "American", "Early life" in the article is very enough and thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 197.200.6.98 (talk) 18:32, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

Requested move 25 November 2014

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: move the page to Dave Bautista, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 01:11, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Dave BatistaBatista (wrestler) OR Dave Bautista The subject of the article is known professionally either by Batista (as a wrestler) or Dave Bautista (as an actor), but never as Dave Batista. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  04:10, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

I have just changed the first proposed title fro "Batista" to "Batista (wrestler)", per feedback. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  18:07, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Discussion

  • Support (as proposer) either option equally for now. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  04:17, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
User:Salvidrim! If nom supports own proposal it's normal to write "as nom". In ictu oculi (talk) 14:55, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
I swear I meant to indicate it, sorry! ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  18:07, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Strong oppose the "Batista" option ; there are many topics called Batista, Batista is a surname page, and if you want to delete that, you need to propose it for deletion, you can't overwrite it with a simple move request. The most encyclopedic "Batista" is President Batista, Fulgencio Batista, so if the surname page is not primary, it should point to the president, and if not the president, then we should build a new disambiguation page out of the see-also section of the surname article. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 07:32, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
I have changed the proposed titles to "Batista (wrestler)" or "Dave Bautista". Do you still oppose both titles? ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  18:07, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
I have no particular objections to "Batista (wrestler)" or "Dave Bautista" ; it should not be at "Batista" though. I never opposed both titles, only the "Batista" choice. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 04:03, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Gotcha, thanks for clarifying (for the benefit of the closer). I agree that "Batista" was an exceptionally poor proposition. :) ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  04:11, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support move this page to Dave Bautista over redirect; change surname to Bautista throughout the article; change Batista (wrestler) to redirect to Dave Bautista; and change the entry on the Batista disambig page: Noyster (talk), 09:56, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Strong oppose / malformed request - Batista means the Batista (the President), but is a common surname and surname article, this wrestler is of limited recent notability in his area. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:52, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
I have changed the proposed titles to "Batista (wrestler)" or "Dave Bautista". Do you still oppose both titles? ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  18:07, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. No, support either of the new titles. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:49, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Strong oppose This RFC is malformed. The changes do not fix that. The changes also bring into question why this wasn't opened on the Dave Batista article.-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 18:27, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
What? This is not an RfC, it's an RM, and it IS on the article's talk page, as all RfCs are. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  18:31, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
Your right. My apologies. I was on another page and clicked this link by mistake, I didn't notice it load and thought I was still on the other page, lol.
  • Neutral Batista is commonly used to refer to Fulgencio Batista. Pop culture wise the show Dexter had a character Angel Batista that would introduce himself and reply, "No relation" to indicate that he was unrelated to the Former Cuban leader. That is the most recent example. So the disambiguation would be needed I think, if that route were taken. And alot of his notability was built on that wrestling career, while being commonly referred to as Batista. However when first introduced as Batista, the full name of the persona was Dave Batista. In his excursion into hollywood he has been going by his name properly spelled. Excluding the rest of his career, his movie career would be enough for notability. It does seem his success in hollywood is on going. There really is a case for anyone of these being chosen. Really in the end this is pedantic. Regardless of which is chosen in the end I think there is a good case for the other choices to become redirects.-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 20:33, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support Dave Bautista due to actor credit as such. SnowFire (talk) 19:19, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support Dave Bautista as per arguments of SerialJoePsycho and nom. Jeremy112233 (Lettuce-jibber-jabber?) 00:10, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support Dave Bautista. Known professionally as Dave Bautista in his film career. As that's his real name, I think that lends extra weight to it. I dunno. Maybe I'm biased, as I really had no clue that he was ever known as anything other than that. He does seem to be known as "Bautista" these days, however. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:38, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
News does circulate about him under the name Dave Batista.-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 03:04, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Under the "Personal Life" section, it states that Batista's second wife Angie is a Filipino. This is not supported by any sources. I know from personal knowledge that she is not. Angie has a Japanese mother and Caucasian-American father. The text ", who is also a Filipino," should be removed. Dave himself is also not a Filipino immigrant, he was born and raised in washington DC. Bknight78 (talk) 21:38, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on January 25 2015 (Updated date) February 16 2015* 'In wrestling'

Please change in 'Multiple powerslam variations' the "Swinging side" to "Spinning side", add the "Sidewalk slam" into the 'Multiple powerslam variations' and also add "Vertical suplex" to the 'signature moves'. Batista has been using "Spinning side slam" multiple times and not the "Swinging side slam" and he has also has used "Vertical suplex" many times. I know this from watching videos and learning most of Batista's wrestling maneuvers and here are four links of each three moves to prove it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yveshe (talkcontribs) 23:16, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Here's two other links from YouTube that shows/explains the differences between "Swinging side slam" (When Batista was in Ohio Valley Wrestling named Leviathan preforming the move) and "Spinning side slam" performed by Batista. And proves why to rename the 'Swinging' to 'Spinning' (due to the four provided links that proves it).

Hunter took over offense with a methodical beating at ringside including a suplex.-(Vertical suplex)"

4. http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=41964&p=2 - This was the first match. You'll see on the 3rd line of the 2nd paragraph "vertical suplex".

  • @Yveshe: - so I added corner clothesline for Reigns already. Now for Batista, first I'm going to tell you I'm not going to add vertical suplex. It is one of those very common moves that everybody does, so we usually don't show those. You don't see "punch", "elbow", "Irish whip" or "side headlock" listed, right? About the "swinging side slam", the source actually said "swinging sidewalk slam", so whoever added it screwed up. I added the sidewalk and spinning side slam. Well done on finding the links! starship.paint ~ ¡Olé! 11:27, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

@Starship.paint: Fine I don't mind if the Vertical suplex will not be added because it's a common move, but I thought about it because I've seen most of the legends/hall of famer's moves and I have seen Body slam which was the most common move back then and the most common move in wrestling itself. Anyway, thank you so much and much appreciated! "Yveshe (talk) 12:45, 17 February 2015 (UTC)"

@Starship.paint: Because it's a comment move, I might would've said to add this one too but sense it's the most common, it's useless to add. Another thing, recently when I went to Roman Reigns's Wikipedia page, I saw the Tilt a Whirl slam and the Fireman's carry flapjack, why were they removed? (and I know he barely used those two moves). "Yveshe (talk) 14:35, 17 February 2015 (UTC)" starship.paint ~ ¡Olé! 16:35, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

  • @Yveshe: - as you said 1) he barely used those two moves 2) when it was added, there were zero reliable sources, when we need four. Per WP:V and WP:OR, unsourced info can be removed at any time. Also, why does your signature have my name in it? LOL. starship.paint ~ ¡Olé! 00:17, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

LOL I don't know either, I'm just doing what you've told me :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yveshe (talkcontribs) 16:10, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

@Starship.paint: Hey man, I've got two request. One is that Kane has been using "Uppercut" and it's his basic attack mostly in his matches and it's missing from his signature moves. I posted four sources about the "Uppercut" at Kane's talk page. Just scroll down to the bottom and you'll see my message. Two is that Batista has been delivering "Corner clothesline" (I'll post the links right after I finish writing) multiple times and I also know that Batista has been hitting some opponents with a Clothesline in mid-air (while they were jumping off the top rope). Do you know what's the name of that Clothesline? Maybe Mid-air clothesline or Capture clothesline? "Yveshe (talk) 15:05, 19 February 2015 (UTC)"

1. http://www.wrestleview.com/wwe-wrestling-results/wwe-raw-results/48460-wwe-raw-results-5-12-14-live-results-from-greenville - Go down below to the last match and between the 8th to the 9th lines, you'll see "Batista sends him to the corner and hits a clothesline."=Corner clothesline.

3. http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=33205&p=5 - At the 2nd paragraph right after Kane entered the match, read from the comma in the 3rd line to the 4th line and you'll see "clothesline in the corner"=Corner clothesline

@Kuyabribri: I disagree with your decision. Batista is his ring name and used for kayfabe storylines. However, the controversy seems to be real (which is not scripted), therefore Bautista would be more appropriate IMO. THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 10:59, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Batista/Bautista

The name issue is getting to be a real confusion, especially as many new fans won't know him as a wrestler. Which opens the page to many itty bitty edits, or edit requests. Do we leave it as is or change the name to all one spelling? Using the spelling he seems to prefer/use now Bautista, with a nod to the change from wrestling to (I presume this is the reason for the spell change I'm sure someone will correct me) his name as an actor? I'm quite happy to make the changes but would prefer feedback before I settle myself in to make them only for it to be reverted? Amanda138a (talk) 22:05, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Article name is Bautista, this shouldn't be an issue. Batista spelling is only used when referring to his Wrestling career. Bautista should be used when referring to the person. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 23:43, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

I went through and made all the changes I could see to fix this; basically, "Batista" is a wrestling character, and Dave Bautista is the person. I might have missed one or two, feel free to check it. fish&karate 08:34, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
@Fish and karate: I came here (3 years later!) about this same issue. I gather your edits (mentioned above) are Batista the wrestler, Bautista the person? I made a few other edits, but might have not followed that guideline exactly. See here (Happy New Year!) 220 of ßorg 03:01, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
Meh! IMHO it should be Bautista all the way through. The difference is so minor, a single U (Ba tista), that it really makes little difference. If his wrestling (stage?) pseudonym was totally different, it might be an issue. 220 of ßorg 00:38, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

As a note, I want to disclose that I work with Dave Bautista but that I am not being compensated directly or indirectly for trying to correct this error in his information on WikiPedia.

He was born in Washington DC, not Arlington, VA

as a reference, imdb.com page: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1176985/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm

and this washington post article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/reliable-source/wp/2017/05/15/actor-david-bautista-hits-a-nats-game-recalls-poor-childhood-in-d-c/

In addition, the reference supporting Arlington, VA refers to a blank page of a website that doesn't exist anymore except in the internet archives and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't qualify as a reliable source either. I found this source that lists his height as 6'4", but I don't know if it's reliable. —El Millo (talk) 21:11, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
As far as billed height and weight, WWE is authoritative, as the promotion that billed him (pretty much exclusively). Everybody is presented as bigger in pro wrestling, and in typical wrestler articles on Wikipedia. Two extra inches and 45 added pounds is pretty standard stuff, I wouldn't worry. InedibleHulk (talk) 08:58, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
I reverted that. You just said you know the source is factually inaccurate but you want to use it anyway. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 09:52, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
I know. Wrestling requires a suspension of disbelief. It seems wrong, at first, but every bio does it. InedibleHulk (talk) 10:24, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
I understand the mystique around wrestlers and such, it just seems very odd to use that information in an encyclopedia article about a person. That said I won't revert again, but I'd like to see what others think about it. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 10:30, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
One revert was enough for me, too. It's not exactly crucial that anyone buy into these exact suspicious measurements, especially non-wrestling fans. And yeah, Batista interests quite a lot of those lately. InedibleHulk (talk) 10:47, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Acting career wording

Hi, I'm not exactly sure how to explain this. I'm not very hip to the wikipedia meta and all that jazz, however a section in the acting career seems to be very obnoxiously worded considering the context of everything around it.

"He had a memorable supporting role near the beginning of the epic science fiction film Blade Runner 2049, released in 2017 to critical praise."

Why is this the movie that gets so much hype in the section, compared to the other movies that just say his role and the year they came out. It seems a bit odd? 2601:196:4900:8D0:69BA:DF39:66B0:9BE9 (talk) 08:06, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
