New picture...

The new picture (I didnt add it...) looks awful to me. Sorry, but I mean, you cant really SEE him 'cause of the lighting. No face or body really, just the belt and that's it. Shouldnt we be able to, you know, see Batista?? --Cookie 02:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

previously dropped storyline

Does anyone know what the original plans were for the Mark Henry/Melina/Batista sexual harassment storyline that had just started when Batista was injured and had to forfeit the title? And how much longer his title reign was planned to be? If so, should we add that to the article? Other Wiki articles break kayfabe with similar information...Gamer313 20:28, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

I'd say "not" since as it didn't happen it's only speculation. --Dave. 22:43, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

smackdown sprint vs beat the clock sprint

On the final (recap) SmackDown! episode of 2006, Teddy Long says the tournament is called the SmackDown! Sprint. However, on the first episode of 2007, he calls it the Beat The Clock Sprint. User Dave has changed Beat The Clock to SmackDown Beat The Clock. What does everyone think we should officially call it in the article? Gamer313 18:41, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually i changed it to "SmackDown Beat the Clock Sprint" as thats what WWE.com articles seem to be calling plus i rewrote it so the aspect that it isnt a standard tournament is also understood --- Paulley

Worth mentioning?

Think it's worth mentioning that Batista was with John Cena and Ashley Massaro for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition this Sunday (January 14th)? I'm not sure if it's in the article yet--or even if it's worth adding. But he and the other 2 superstars who helped seemed really happy about helping the family out, so would it be a good add? --Cookie 05:07, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about the comment earlier (I just sad NO). You could add it but i think that people are more interested in his in ring achievments than a makeover. But you could add it i guess.

Please sign your comments...and instead of just saying 'no' maybe you could actually leave people an explanation as to why not...'no' is kind of vague and unhelpful. Thanks. --67.185.26.89 05:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

You do NOT have authority to say what people would enjoy reading. This is an objective encyclopedia, and his non-wrestling achievements (Since this is about HIM and not JUST his character), should be added. WiiAlbanyGirl 16:41, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Why is the WM match not worth noting?

I mean, c'mon. It's WrestleMania! Freddy Krueger 00:40, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Any future matches, announced or otherwise, are not allowed in wrestling articles per WP:PW policy. This is an extension of the Wikipedia policy stating that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Cheers, -- The Hybrid 00:43, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I think you should add details about WrestleMania 23. this is going to be one of batista's biggest matches

I think we shouldn't until after WrestleMania 23 because Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, nor a dedicated wrestling site. The WrestleMania match will be added AFTER WrestleMania in accordance with the WP:PW policies and style guide. Bmg916 Speak to Me 21:55, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I know it's close to the event, but it is already noted he is in a feud with the Undertaker. The article could at least state that they have a scheduled matchup at WrestleMania 23. ---- GIGGAS2 05:05, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

No, in accordance with WP:PW, it can't. I really wish people would get over this. Bmg916 Speak to Me 12:12, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I can't seem to find where it talks about what you're referring to. Can you tell me where to look? ---- GIGGAS2 17:49, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Under Style Guide, then under warnings: (DO NOT ADD WEEK BY WEEK EVENTS, RUMOURS OR SPECULATION. THIS INCLUDES ANNOUNCED MATCHES THAT HAVE NOT YET OCCURRED. WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A NEWS SITE BUT AN ONLINE ENCYCLOPAEDIA. Please see the articles "Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not" and "Wikipedia:Guide to writing better articles" for more information.) WrestleMania 23, at this point in time, falls under announced matches that have not yet occurred. Bmg916 Speak to Me 17:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't understand. Wouldn't this mean that for the wrestling PPVs, they wouldn't be allowed to post the card until it's already happened? I also don't see how saying "Batista has a scheduled matchup with the Undertaker at WrestleMania 23" turns Wiki into a news page. Wouldn't that also mean Shawn Michael's page will have to change because of this sentence?

Michaels won a triple threat match on RAW a few weeks later to become the #1 contender to Cena's WWE Championship at WrestleMania 23, leading to a breech of trust between tag team partners as they successfully defended their titles against numerous teams.

And what about this sentence on the Undertaker's page?

He is scheduled to face Batista at Wrestlemania 23

I'm sorry for dragging this out, but I'm still kind of confused, as is probably quite obvious by now. ---- GIGGAS2 20:30, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

As far as the wrestling PPVs question goes, I have the same exact one, so I'd ask over at the WP:PW talk page about that. Thank you for bringing the other sentences in the other articles to my attention as they shouldnt have been there and I have removed them. Bmg916 Speak to Me 20:54, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't apply to the PPV articles since the guideline was created for wrestler articles, not the PPV articles. TJ Spyke 21:26, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Heel or face?

Is Dave a heel or a face right now? I have no clue. And yes this does apply to the article because I was wondering...if he did turn heel at No Way Out, which I was unable to order, then should we put that in the article? I didnt see it there...is he still face? --67.185.26.89 06:49, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

This is not a messageboard, but he is a face still (he explained why he spinebustered Undertaker on SD this week). TJ Spyke 23:48, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Ahem. I said, "And yes this does apply to the article because I was wondering...if he did turn heel at No Way Out, which I was unable to order, then should we put that in the article?"

I was not using this as a message board. I was asking if he was heel or face and if it was worth adding to the article...=) --67.185.26.89 03:58, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't apply to the article, despite you saying it does. TJ Spyke 21:24, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

what are you talking, about a wwe book says he's a heel

Dude, you're being kind of rude.......IP#1 never said it applies to the article......67.185.182.69 08:37, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I checked and um sorry IP person but there's no note ANYWHERE on the article as to whether Dave is a heel/face. If it wasnt there before, no sense in adding it now...~*~ 67.185.26.89 00:19, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
I feel you are all very incorrect, especially in the above comment. One of the main problems with wrestling articles on Wiki is that there is no consensus to how these articles about these men and their characters should be written. I, however, do believe that, if he IS a heel or a face, that should be stated in the timeline of his events. I find this much more important than weekly events, and will determine the majority path of his character through his career. Just because it is not there, it means that it SHOULD be. Many other WWE articles have this indication. WiiAlbanyGirl 16:44, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

You guys have to be kidding me. I can understand how you don't want inexperienced, or non-registered users editting this page. But even someone with a respected list of contributions, such as myself and many others on here, who have never vandelized (On the contrary, have cleaned up quite a bit) can't edit something that has been outdated for a month and a half? This goes against everything Wikipedia stands for. We are dedicated users. The minor vandelism is something that can be easily reverted and fixed, and it's our job as respectful users to fix vandelism of the disrespectful users when we see it. Height

Why is Batista at 6'6? He isn't anywhere near that. Batista is more like 6'3-6'4ish.

The height is based on what his WWE profile states, not what people assume. - Deep Shadow 22:28, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

And I don't get it, did he grow one inch or what? And that's what i don't get with wwe, why can't they put up their real weight and height, or maybe they just guess.

Esta WHAT?

Ok, I think the little "estafista" thing under Nicknames is a little unnecessary. We call him LOTS of names in Spokane, but I dont see any of them listed. The internet people often call him "Roidtista" and I dont see THAT listed, either. I think listing the nickname his fans call him in South America or wherever is a little irrelevant. Does anyone agree? Plus, the "Estafista" thing might've been vandalism in the first place.......hmm. 67.185.182.69 08:28, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Page beginning info

The beginning of the page reads this: David Michael Bautista;ref name="official">About Batista at his official site</ref> (born January 18 1969[2]), better known as Dave Batista or by the ring name Batista, is an American professional wrestler. Batista is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment wrestling on its SmackDown! brand. While in the WWE, Batista has been a 2 time World Heavyweight Champion, a 2 time World Tag Team Champion (with Ric Flair) and a 1 time WWE Tag Team Champion (with Rey Mysterio). He also won the Royal Rumble in 2005. His finishing move is the Batista Bomb.

However, considering the bits of his title reigns, Rumble win, and his finisher are already within the article in respective areas, do those really need to be in the beginning since it's repetitive, or is it for summarizing purposes? - Ken Xiraka 01:19, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

It's for summariazing purposes, as per Wikipedia:Lead. Davnel03 14:25, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

GA review comments

Despite my concerns over the page being semi-protected to avoid too much edit warring, and the note on the talk page, here are my review comments, against WP:GA criteria:

  • Image in infobox has neither licence nor source information.
    •  Done - Image page was subject to vandalism.
  • Why is his fourth ring name bold? If it's the most significant one then put it at the top surely?
    •  Done
  • Placement of ref [1] twice in opening sentence is awkward.
    •  Done
  • The "In wrestling" section is strangely named, the whole article is primarily about his wrstling career.
    • As per WP:PW, we tend to have move sections like this, see Triple H and John Cenas articles also for other examples this.
  • Place citations in accordance with WP:CITE
    •  Done
  • It would be appropriate to have a lead-in before the career section starts, perhaps describing his pre-wrestling-career life.
    • I'll try to do that - is that needed though for GA?
  • "Afa Anoai" or "Afa Anoa'i" - consistency needed.
    •  Done
  • If he made his debut in 1997, why isn't this mentioned in the article, the first three years of his career is missing.
    • I don't think he did much in this time - I'll try and find out though.
  • "After this both partners started to argue over the weeks. Bautista eventually turned on D-Von." would be better as a single sentence.
    •  Done
  • Wikilink full dates per WP:DATE.
    •  Done I think, there might be 1 or 2 I've missed.
  • Avoid "didn't", use "did not" etc.
    •  Done
  • 2005 section is overly comprehensive and full of very short paragraphs, avoid WP:Recentism.
    • There isn't much I can cut out - in years like 2003 and 2004 Batista wasn't a major part on TV and in 2006 he was injured for 1/2 a year, but in 2005 he was in it for the whole year, and was on TV playing a major role.
  • "(These events were aired on the January 13, 2006 edition of SmackDown!.[46])" - why in parentheses?
    •  Done - removed line.
  • Lists of signature moves and managers etc ought to be prose'd really, as should his impressive list of accomplishments.
    • What do you mean by that?
  • The Personal life section needs to be flowed better, it's basically a trivia list without the bullet points right now. Davnel03 18:04, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

While many of these aren't major, the sections which need to be written in prose really need attending to, and with the concerns over the recent large number of edits, I'm failing the GA for the moment. The Rambling Man 10:55, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I believe all of these requirements have now been met save for a few problems.

  • "In wrestling" as well as "accomplishments" follow WP:PW and therefore are irrelevant in this to-do list.
  • 2005 has been edited down to the basics, but it was his stand-out year as far as involvement. I fail to see how it can be shortened further without removing valuable and worthwhile information.
  • The Personal life section has been edited for chronological time as well as information, though any more prose problems are simply due to "lack of a personal life", at least as far as our knowledge. ;)

Overall, everything has been edited for prose, so it should now read better. I recommend a new review which, at the very least, will offer new criteria for article improvement. Enhanceddownloadbird 06:40, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

His Book

I'm confused... why shouldn't there ever be an article on his book? The Rypcord. 13:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Because in the world of literature, it isn't notable. Nikki311 14:07, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
It's not meant to be literature, and generally literature is fictional to begin with, its meant to be a detailed account of Batista's life and pro-wrestling. Thus making it notable 1)because it is a produced book, which there are a TON of on wikipedia with far less known authors and even more worthless "notability to literature", and 2)it is a celebrity autobiography. All of Mick Foley's have pages, Austin's as a page, Regal's as a page. The Rypcord. 14:28, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
While you bring up a fair point, Foley's books have pages because they all (IIRC) became New York Times Bestsellers. If Bautista's book does the same, an article would likely be created. As for Austin's and Regal's, I can't be sure. Gavyn Sykes 16:10, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
So it needs to be a NYTimes bestseller? Ok. The Rypcord. 16:18, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, don't quote me on that. I'm speculating that Foley's books are notable due to that. Gavyn Sykes 16:35, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Foley's have pages because he actually wrote them himself...that's what makes them notable. Also, the first book began that animosity with Flair, which was reported by third party sources...that also makes it notable. Nikki311 17:36, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Also, biographies and autobiographies are genres of literature. Just for the record...Stone Cold's book and Regal's book don't have pages...at least not that I could find. Nikki311 17:39, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

i always thought daves second name was spelt batista. Mcferguson 21:54, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Age?

OKay, maybe it's just me, but in the section on his family, it says that "by the age of 40" he had two grandchildren. That'd be just fine and dandy, except as far as I can see, if he was born in 1969, then he's 38 right now. Just my math. Cougar Draven 03:34, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

It says "before" the age of forty. Gavyn Sykes 03:36, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
"Before the age of 40, Batista had already become a grandfather of two grandsons" implies that he is past that age. You want to fix it, or should I? Cougar Draven 03:39, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
He's 38, that's before the age of forty. There's nothing wrong with that statement. Gavyn Sykes 03:49, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

"Electric chair"

It mentions that Batista gave Orton an electric chair. Was this a driver, drop or powerbomb? All three have electric chair versions and the wikilink redirects to a page with all of them listed. Gavyn Sykes 17:44, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Unless I'm extremely mistaken, the name "electric chair" by itself revers to the drop. Also, having seen the episode when it first aired, and watching it now on Youtube [3][4], it's an electric chair drop. Cougar Draven 16:17, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Alright then, thanks. I'll fix the link. Gavyn Sykes 16:34, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Height

Batista is definitely not 6'6!!! At WrestleMania 22, he stood next to Randy Orton and was at least an inch smaller than Randy Orton. Randy Orton is 6'4. So maybe you could change his height to 6'3. Because 6'6 looks stupid. Lee 22:57, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

I also noticed this (don't think it was WrestleMania, though). But it's his billed height. Maybe Randy is really tall. JBL is billed at 6'6" aswell yet he seemed to tower over Batista in events leading to Cyber Sunday (when he got speared). --DlaeYou're quite the talker aren't you? 22:47, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I hardly think that we should nitpick. Dave is a commmon nickname for David and Flair used to call Batista, "Big Dave." Gavyn Sykes 04:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Triple H called him "Dave". Eddie Guerrero called him "Bautista" (bow-teesta, sort of). I think the article should be his ring name (Dave Batista) or real name (David Bautista) - not a combination of both. --DlaeThe Freudian Slip 20:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I was wondering if "Deacon Bautista" or just "Deacon" should be added to his list of nicknames because he used them when he was with Reverent D'Von in 2002. User:Darkdemon90 21:02, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Bautista is his legal name. Although it is pronouce with a silent "u" in English. Batista's father a Filipino and his last name is of Spanish origin, hence Bautista (bow-teesta) is the way Spanish people pronounce it, like Eddie Guerrero.Jbritp (talk) 19:49, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

It's in Batista's BOOK! Perfectly sourced. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 04:55, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Is Batista mentioned in Dog - The Bounty Hunter's Book?

I just read the book "You can run, but you can't hide" by Duane Chapman alies Dog - The Bounty Hunter. On several pages he mentiones a friend he worked with named David Bautista. Is this the same Batista like here? Because I've never heard or read anything before that he had worked as a bail bonds man. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.171.53.168 (talk) 00:55, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

I can't find anything that would link the two, but if anyone can find anything I think it would be an interesting connection. --EnhancedDownloadBird (Upload) - 02:00, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Billed weight?

Can someone please change Batista's weight? He is weight currently billed at 317 lbs. Jbritp (talk) 19:43, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

We use the WWE.com source. If they don't change it, we don't, plain and simple. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 19:44, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

OK. I can't argue with the source. HAHAHA Jbritp (talk) 19:51, 20 December 2007 (UTC) What they bill sometimes it is not true —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rock hard 2.0 (talkcontribs) 12:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Detailed imaginery information

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatling_gun has a picture of a Gatling gun and nobody would be able to lift that. Perhaps changing the reference to him firing an imaginery machine gun would be more accurate? 12:19, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Finisher?

Isn't Batista's finisher a snap sitout powerbomb and not just a sitout powerbomb? Because everytime I saw Batista do the Batista Bomb, it was real quick. As soon as the legs were on Batista's shoulders he dropped down.SimonKSK (talk) 12:55, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
