Angelina

I created an HTML comment saying not to add Moana; it's unlikely that there'll be a lot on Moana soon because it's only 2014, and her movie won't be out until 2018 according to current predictions (as a matter of fact, the fact that it's only 2014 means we cannot be sure what movie will come out in 2018.)

But someone just altered the HTML comment to include Angelina as well. Who is Angelina?? Georgia guy (talk) 14:42, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

I did a Google search and it reveals that Angelina is simply an actor who'll be playing Maleficent in the live-action film, not an actual Disney character. Georgia guy (talk) 14:45, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
That is from Maleficent (film) but she is not the princess, Elle Fanning will be Aurora (aka, Sleeping Beauty).--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 14:56, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
But Aurora already is a Disney Princess. Why did User:JaDangerz put Angelina (an actor, not a character) in this HTML comment?? Did they think something about Angelina by mistake?? I wrote a message at their user talk page letting them know about this section of the talk page, but I got no response. Georgia guy (talk) 16:34, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Ok ok I'll talk, there's a rumor going around that the female lead named Angelina from the upcoming 2016 Disney film "Giants" is going to join I just wanted to warn people not to add that to the "Future Princesses" section just like Moana. - JaDangerz (talk) 01:42, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying what Angelina means in your HTML comment, JaDangerz. Georgia guy (talk) 14:21, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Yes, thanks! I modified the HTML comment to explain that Angelina is from the unannounced "Giants" project. -- Narsil (talk) 18:36, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Anna and Elsa still unconfirmed as of Jan 2d

Very glad that there's some source for Anna and Elsa's coronation, besides that one vague Australian trade magazine! We've now got an Orlando newspaper:

Orlando Sentinal: "What to look forward to at Disney World in 2014"

New Disney Princesses - Anna and Elsa, two of the main characters in Disney's 2013 animated film "Frozen," are expected to be inaugurated as official Disney princesses in 2014. Anna, who was voiced by Kristen Bell in the film, will join the Disney Princess franchise as the 12th princess, while her older sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, will become the 13th princess. The official date of the two additions has not been announced.

But I'm still not seeing any confirmation from the Mouse, and that paragraph just says they're "expected" to be inaugurated--still some wiggle room. If Anna and Elsa are both going to be crowned this year, I expect Disney will announce something soon. Until then, I think it's legit to list them as "future princesses" (this has gone beyond just rumor now), but they should still be marked as "unconfirmed", in my opinion. -- Narsil (talk) 18:15, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

...okay, now we're almost out of summer and they haven't even announced a coronation (let alone had one). (By contrast, Tangled came out in November 2010, they announced Rapunzel's coronation seven months later in June 2011, and she became an official Disney Princess in October 2011.) I can't find any news sources confirming the Orlando Sentinel's claim. Should we remove the Anna & Elsa reference?
(Arguments Con: I believe Rapunzel and Merida were crowned about a year after their movies came out, so maybe we should wait till closer to the Froziversary in November. And if we don't mention Anna and Elsa at all, it's pretty likely that their fans will add them as full "princesses"; putting in a note saying "there are rumors but nothing official" may be quieting some of that...) -- Narsil (talk) 19:29, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
UPDATE: Okay, the sources that claimed "they will be crowned in 2014" (never better than rumor, IMO) are now clearly inaccurate. It's 2015, and there has been no coronation or announcement. I think it's appropriate to remove the paragraph that says "there are reports that they'll be inducted in 2014". I mean, there are reports that Dewey beat Truman, too... -- Narsil (talk) 21:00, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
Well.. that did happen, and has a very reliable source/citation.--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 01:09, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Princess Ages

Does Know any each of these princess ages? Pocahontas is 18. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Happypillsjr (talkcontribs) 03:07, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Try looking on the individual articles. This is about a franchise, not the individuals.--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 03:22, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
Someone added in the (conjectured) ages for all the princesses, but I agree with User:Loriendrew, these ages should go on the individual princess pages (if they should even go there--often there's no real basis for the speculated "age"). I'll remove the ages from this page. — Narsil (talk) 20:05, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Attractions and Live Events clean up

This section is just a mess really, I've updated information to get rid of some outdated information, some of it really old. There are still large sections missing such as the attractions 'Ariel's Undersea Adventure', 'Enchanted Tales with Belle' and the 'Seven Dwarf's Mine Train' and some of the information is just far too in depth for minor attractions such as character dining and meet and greet locations. It's difficult to quickly change everything without majorly reconstructing this section. A huge lack of information on the none US parks too. I'm thinking it may be better to separate the sections into things like rides, shows and parades, meet and greets etc as it the moment it seems to start with rides, then move onto Disneyland exclusively then onto Walt Disney World then it gets a bit lost. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.134.216.113 (talk) 11:35, 6 August 2014

Ill try and add some extra info about the princesses in those articles in need of work, (Merida, Tiana, ect) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.246.231.109 (talk) 16:18, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

The "Future Princesses" sub-section is completely empty

What's up with that? If there's nothing to be said, shouldn't the sub-section just be deleted until there is something to say? -- 24.212.139.102 (talk) 04:42, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Infobox Image

It's positively tiny. Lythronaxargestes (talk) 01:28, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

If you look on the licensing of the image, it is a non-free image and therefor only a smaller low-resolution version can be used. If you can find another version that may be legally used then feel free to upload it to commons.--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 02:05, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Disney's new princesses

Anna and Elsa - The two princesses from Disney Frozen should be put in the Addition Princesses category. Anna (voice by Kristen Bell) should be the 12th princess. Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) should be the 13th princess (even though she become a queen later on). PLease add them in Wikipedia.

Moana - I've heard rumors about the 2018 new Disney Princess movie, Moana, that Disney announced. I think instead of leaving Future Princess category out blank, you should put Moana in there. Though, I don't have much information about her, but, I do know that she's Polynesian, and she's setting off a journey to help her village.

Gaygreen123 (talk) 01:02, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Anna and Elsa have not been added as princesses to the franchise. The two will be added once/if they are added. Moana is not even a thought at this point in time.--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 01:18, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Not Actually Princesses Not for inclusion in the article, but just for information. Of the eleven official Disney princesses, only five actually deserve the title. The ones that are actual princesses are as follows: Snow White, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Jasmine, Rapunzel, and Merida. As for the ones that aren't: 1. Cinderella. Yes, she marries a prince, but that story is of French origin, and France has Morganiatic laws, which means that royals are free to marry commoners if they choose, but that does not elevate the commoner to the nobility. So Cinderella is not a princess, despite being married to a Prince. 2. Ariel. Ariel has the same problem as Cinderella, but doubled. She not only abdicated her own position as princess when she permanently exiled herself from Atlantis, she married a Danish prince. Denmark has the same Morganiatic laws as France does. 3. Belle, from Beauty and the Beast, had the misfortune of being a commoner married to a French prince. So no royalty for her. 4. Pocahontas isn't a princess because the Roanoke Indians have no "noble class", and thus no princes or princesses. She's the daughter of a chief, but that does not make her royalty. 5. Mulan is neither born to royalty, nor does she ever marry into it. Sure, her boyfriend is an officer in the army, but even he isn't royalty. 6. Tiana is an American and by US law is not nobility. And while it is true she marries a prince, the prince she marries has been disowned and disinherited, and thus is only legally a prince because his parents are royalty. He has no claim on any throne any longer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.145.197.15 (talk) 14:04, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Any speculation about future princesses is just that - speculation. Until they are officially named, [1] they should not appear in this article as a "Disney Princess". --NeilN talk to me 18:35, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Aurora and Cinderella photos on their separate articles

Now that Cinderella is being shown in her original dress colors here on her Wikipedia page I think Aurora should be shown in the colors she was advertised in. On her page at Disney wikia, she is wearing a blue dress. That was the color of the dress she had for most of her original film and it's even the color of her dress in the Kingdom Hearts series. She was also originally advertised wearing blue. Look at these VHS tapes. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFg5OTE=/z/kv0AAOSw7PBTofoz/$_35.JPG Plus, there are these theatrical release posters. [2] [3] She also used to wear it in Disney parks. Heck at the El Capitan Theatre in 2008, she is even advertised wearing blue in the marquee. [4] If we are instead going to base it on the colors, they are being advertised in now, then Cinderella's dress should not be silvery white if Aurora's is pink. Aurora even wore blue during most of Maleficent as well. As for Cinderella no longer wearing the silvery white color, the link has the reason why. Look at the best answer and it kind makes sense. [5] Still, I think Aurora should be shown in her original colors if Cinderella is going to be here on Wikipedia from now on. Sb1990 (talk) 18:19, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Please take it up on those article's talk pages. This article is about the franchise, not about Disney princesses as a collective.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 00:21, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Anna/Elsa not part of the franchise

It is very surprising that Anna and Elsa are not part of this franchise. Somewhere in Wikipedia there needs to be information on why. Georgia guy (talk) 18:19, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm sure there's a fascinating story about why neither of them is in the franchise. But until that fascinating story is reported in a reliable source, there's nothing we can say about it here. ;-) — Narsil (talk) 01:53, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Define "Princess"

The criteria for "princess" status should be defined somewhere within the article. Based on the current line-up, inclusion seems to be fairly arbitrary; while most of the Disney "princesses" were born or married into royalty, Mulan, Pocahontas, and defunct member Tinker Bell are not technically royals in their respective storylines. I presume their inclusion was intended to broaden the ethnic demographic and overall appeal of the line from a marketing standpoint, but so as not to incite misunderstanding, some mention of deviation from the traditional definition of princess should be included, particularly in the bios of the non-royal inductees.

The following sentence highlights the problem:

"The original line-up consisted of princesses Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan and Tinker Bell, five of whom are royal by blood, two whom have married into royalty, and two who fit the "princess mythology."

What is this "princess mythology"? Undefined, it could apply to anyone. Is there an official source for the phrase?

P.S. Also, I suspect Pocahontas is being numbered among the royals here, which is technically incorrect; she is the daughter of a chief, not a king.

--70.194.74.108 (talk) 17:04, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Reread the article introduction. This article is about a business franchise, not a list of Disney Princesses. Since this is a marketing line, the company decides which characters are included, regardless of their degree of royalty or family history.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 23:56, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
I haven't misunderstood the intent of the article. The intro states that "[the] franchise doesn't actually include all noted princesses from any Disney media as its name suggests", which accounts for the absence of other princesses (e.g. Eilonwy), but doesn't address the fact that those who were included are not all princesses. Again, there's no indication of why Disney chose the characters they did for inclusion in the franchise, which would be of benefit to the article. The nearest explanation is the vague "princess mythology" phrase, which, if not official, should be modified, as it implies a company statement. --50.109.165.162 (talk) 10:04, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
update: I just found the "mythology" quote in the referenced New York Times article, as well as some of the answers I was seeking regarding the corporate mindset. More of that article should be assimilated into the wiki, IMO. If no one beats me to the punch, I'll get to it when I can. --50.109.165.162 (talk) 10:28, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

Sources refer to Moana Waialiki (from the upcoming Disney film Moana) as a princess character. Should she be added to this article and to the corresponding categories and templates? ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:12, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

This is a article about a specific franchise, not about Disney princess-type characters. Unless they are added, basically as evident on the official website, then they are not included. For example, Elsa and Anna from Frozen are princesses per Disney but not per the Disney Princess franchise.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 14:17, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
OK, thanks for clarifying. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:04, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
