"...the Mr. Wizard Science Center located outside Boston"

can't find a reference for this. Where outside Boston? Is it still open? David 21:30, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bill Nye Quote[edit]

It should be removed. A quote from Bill Nye the no science, global warming zealot guy, adds nothing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.52.81.85 (talk) 15:20, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

But calling Bill Nye names doesn't help you make your point. Much as I disagree with Nye, and much as I remember that was just a stand-up comic in a Seattle-based improv troop before he became "the Science Guy", I think you must provide a better argument for removing Nye's quote than to call him a global warming zealot. He is an entertainer who presents science-based content to kids, just as Herbert did, so taking a neutral position at the start, I'd say his insights may be appropriate, till you or someone else can refute them on their merits.

Merge[edit]

I have added the sentence merging the data Teacher to Teacher into Don Herbert. Bejnar 20:21, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Science Center?[edit]

I've added this to the article: "the existence of such a Center is disputed" in accordance with my posting above in May. If no one can find documentation, how can we claim it as fact? David 16:14, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed by whom? If it's disputed by you, then such language is OR. -- 71.102.160.109 08:59, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.mrwizardstudios.com/bioandtimeline.htm
This doesn't provide more information, but it does seem to offer pretty firm support for the one-time existance of the center. Although the first link may have picked up the existance of the center from Wikipedia, I would think the second should be considered authoritive, as the whois information on the page shows it registered to "Herbert, Don" I thus recomend the removal of the "existnce ... disputed" blurb.
LittleBrother 21:23, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the center is claimed to have existed ("1969: Mr. Wizard Science Center opens in Boston suburb."). But there is no evidence that the supposed center still exists. Perhaps it existed in 1969, but that is not sufficient for claiming that it still exists. Many organizations that existed in 1969 no longer exist. The burden is on you to show that it exists, not on me to prove that it does not exist. Otherwise, Wikipedia cannot pretend to being authoritative. David 22:29, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia doesn't pretend to be authoritative. -- 71.102.160.109 08:59, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The tone of your addition is horrible 68.45.4.118 21:52, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the current phrase, "...outside Boston, which no longer exists." is certainly amusing. Bostonians will be surprised. I'd edit it into something less silly if I were more awake. Snezzy 11:44, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's odd about the Science Center is that all sources say it was "in a Boston suburb". Gee, which one? No source actually gives a town name. - Keith D. Tyler 16:44, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing odd about it; the sources also don't give the address. Since Boston suburbs are not generally familiar to people, giving the name wouldn't anything valuable; but it is important to say "Boston suburb" rather than "Boston" because the latter is false. Also, when "all sources" use the same language, that usually indicates they have a common origin, in this case perhaps a press release. -- 71.102.160.109 09:08, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't make sense. Boston has a lot of suburbs, and it did even in the late 1960s. Whether or not people outside Boston know them all, a press release would presumably want to tell people where it is. Just "a Boston suburb" doesn't help anyone. This is akin to saying something is in "a NYC neighborhood" or "a U.S. state". - Keith D. Tyler 17:16, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Don Herbert" strictly a stage name?[edit]

According to the La Crosse Tribune, his real name was Donald Herbert Kemske, and he used "Don Herbert" as his professional name. If this is true, the opening statement needs to be changed. {source). --Zimbabweed 06:40, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Herbert's obituaries used his later name, so let's stick to that. I've put his birth name into the infobox. I presume he changed his name when he went into entertainment after World War II, but that's just a speculation. Easchiff (talk) 13:59, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No personal life[edit]

There's nothing here about if he married and had kids or was a bachelor. The article isn't hurting at the lack of info, but it is noticeable.--Varkman (talk) 11:03, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Who was Don Herbert? JohndanR (talk) 01:18, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
