Name change?

I think this should be renamed to RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise or similar. Thoughts? Gleeanon409 (talk) 13:06, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

New section?

Recently I saw a new section with a list of Drag Race winners through the years pop up. What function does this have? All the winners are already listed in the franchise list. Maybe good to remove it? Thijslandsmeer (talk) 20:11, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

@Thijslandsmeer The content seems to have been removed. OK to consider this resolved and archive this section? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:11, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

Drag Race (franchise)List of Drag Race franchises – This article is a list-type. See Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists. The new name would help people to better find the topic and it makes much more sense for what the article is about as there is very little information about its development as a franchise. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 18:10, 7 March 2021 (UTC) Relisting. —Nnadigoodluck 07:45, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

  • Not really, see The X Factor; not a lot of information on there, but it is also a stand alone article. Idol and The Voice both have about the format, we could add that into his article but it would just be duplicating information. I understand, that it makes it more clear, but if this was the case, shouldn't all be moved to the same format? For example "List of Idol franchises", "List of The Voice franchises", etc? --94.5.190.56 (talk) 19:51, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose. This is not a list, it's an introductory lead followed by a table, and actually putting this in list form would be a negative because of the amount of detail. It should either remain mostly a table or be redeveloped into sections of prose paragraphs. As noted by anon 94... above, the current article is consistent with similar ones like The X Factor. (That's not to say that consensus couldn't suddenly decide to move every article like that to "List of Brand name shows" or something like that, but that would be a big hurdle to jump, and they should be nominated together.) The WP:CONSISTENT policy would not have us move just one of them away from a titling pattern the rest are using. Also, in this context "franchise" refers to the entire thing; each of the entries on this page are not "franchises" (that's the sense used in the fast-food industry, where the term pertains to individual location rather than parent company). "List of Drag Race franchises" shouldn't even exist as a redirect, any more than we'd have "List of Star Wars franchises" or "List of The Elder Scrolls franchises"; it's just not how that word is used for media. It would make more sense to have "List of Drag Race shows", "...programs", and "programmes" as potential article titles people might try to guess at.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  00:26, 8 March 2021 (UTC); rev'd. 17:37, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Support Tables are considered a type of list for Wikipedia purposes. If this article were evaluated for featured status it would go to WP:FLC rather than WP:FAC. Many, probably most, "list" articles are composed of tables. (t · c) buidhe 22:26, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
And that ignores everything substantive about what I said above, to rely on a weak technicality (see WP:WIKILAWYER, WP:NOT#BUREAUCRACY). And the technicality is easy to refute: Just because the "featured articles" wikiproject likes to divide up their work a particular way has nothing to do with article titling. And the fact that a WP:SAL can be reformatted as a table doesn't mean that every article that is table-heavy is just a list. The list-related guideline (not a policy) being definitionally loose doesn't magically trump WP:CONSISTENT policy. If you're convinced that every article like this is a list and should be named as one, then group-nominate them.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  17:31, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose per User:SMcCandlish above. See things like Idol (franchise), The Voice (franchise), Big Brother (franchise), Survivor (franchise), etc. Paintspot Infez (talk) 14:42, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
    • comment WP:OTHERSTUFF isn't a good answer. Also per Buidhe, this would be a list class article if it went for GA. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 18:02, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Comment: I note that Drag Race redirected to drag racing for much of its history and that this franchise had already existed for two years when that redir was created. Personally I found it astonishing that an article called Drag Race (franchise) was not about the motor sport. Andrewa (talk) 09:32, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Would support a 'move to List of RuPaul's Drag Race franchises to make clearer? ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 12:23, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
  • That would address a far more important issue than the question of whether it's a list or whatever IMO. The reader is just interested in finding the content they want. This used to be our top priority, but increasingly we care more about what the editors and administrators think makes them look good than about our customers and their needs. This has a name and all institutions and organisations suffer from it. Andrewa (talk) 16:10, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose. The current state of the article is irreverent to what it should be. This article is about the franchise as a whole, and should include, along with a list of adaptations, a prose of sections covering the development, production and any other significant part of its history. --Gonnym (talk) 13:06, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

Re: All Stars series

Resolved

Aren't all of the All Stars series spin-offs, too? Should they be moved to the spin-off table under their respective countries? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:43, 28 October 2022 (UTC)

I'd support that since they are technically spin-offs to the original franchise. — JuanGLP (talk) 15:49, 28 October 2022 (UTC)

I will! One more question: what would I type under "Format"? — JuanGLP (talk) 19:29, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
@JuanGLP I'm not sure the column is necessary, but I'd say "Spin-off competition". Editors can discuss alternative options if needed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:31, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

Separate table for one-off specials?

Should there be a separate table for one-off specials? Are one-off specials even considered spin-offs? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:29, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

@Another Believer, why not move the one-off specials (into Subheading 1) under "Spin-offs"? — JuanGLP (talk) 20:01, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
What if we just change the section heading to "Spin-off shows and one-off specials"? That way we don't have to worry about whether one-off specials are considered spin-offs. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:09, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
@Another Believer, alrighty just a suggestion. — JuanGLP (talk) 20:16, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
I've updated the section heading to "Spin-off shows and one-off specials" for now. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:17, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

As the tables grow in size, I'm now proposing to split the spin-off shows and one-off specials into separate sections/tables. @Noahp2: Thoughts? ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:02, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

I think that sounds reasonable. I've also been wondering whether it should be subdivided even further to separate out Untucked versions, All-star seasons, etc. Noahp2 (talk) 20:27, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
Done I've created a separate table for one-off specials. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:33, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Re: RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs the World

I'm thinking we should move RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs the World to the spin-offs table for now. There's no evidence RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs the World is a new series, right? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:32, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

@Another Believer: That makes sense to me :) ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 08:55, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
I think RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs the World and Canada's Drag Race: Canada vs. the World should be in a separate table, similarly as to Planet's/World's Got Talent around the world and The Champions around the world sections in the article about the international talent show franchise Got Talent. United Kingdom and Canada respectively should be specified as the host country in the "country" column.Baskesc (talk) 06:53, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
Perhaps a separate section would be helpful once there are more iterations, but for now, I vote to move UK vs the World and Canada vs. the World to the spin-offs section. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:05, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
Support to move Vs the World to spin offs. --FinLogger2017 (talk) 19:55, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
@JuanGLP: Thanks for moving the vs entries to the lower table. However, can you please remove "global" and place Canada vs. the World under Canada and UK vs. the World under UK? These should be associated with their respective countries, not "global". ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:31, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
@Another Believer: Alright, no problem. What would I put for "Format"? — JuanGLP (talk) 15:34, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
Perhaps just "spin-off" or "international competition"? ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:36, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
@Another Believer, I added: "International spin-off competition". That seems good, right? — JuanGLP (talk) 15:58, 28 October 2022 (UTC)

Should we separate competitive vs. non-competitive spin-offs?

Resolved

Now that we've separated the spin-off shows from the one-off specials, I am wondering if you should separate the competitive spin-off shows from the non-competitive spin-off shows. Curious what others think. Something to think about this list continues to grow. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:58, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Yes.Naraht (talk) 19:00, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
Yes, since the whole franchise is about competition. Instead of having multiple headings, just put both tables under one with subheadings. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 22:13, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
@Naraht@JuanGLP  Done I've attempted to separate the competitive and non-competitive spin-offs. I hope this looks ok and let me know if you have any issues. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:51, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

"Multiple winners"

Resolved

For Secret Celebrity (specifically season 1), all winners are listed. But for RuPaul's Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular, the table just says "Multiple winners". Should we be consistent here? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:59, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Maybe add a note next to "Multiple winners"? — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 23:09, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
@JuanGLP: Does this work for you? I am ok with this format, since season 1 of Secret Celebrity had multiple winners (but not all participants), but Holi-slay Spectacular was winning by participation. Open to discussing alternative options here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:18, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
Yes, though I would make a new heading for notes instead of leaving it on the bottom of the table. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 23:23, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Remove "format" column under Competitive spin-offs?

Resolved

I don't find the "Format" column at Drag_Race_(franchise)#Competitive particularly helpful. I think "reality" and "competition" are implied, so essentially all that's left here is "International" or "Members of the public" or "Celebrities". I propose removing the column altogether. If this context is helpful then I suggest explaining key details in prose, instead of table. Thoughts? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:26, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

I agree with @Another Believer. Since the main franchises don't have one, what's the point of having one for the competitive spin-offs. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 23:29, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
What do you think about the Format column for the non-competitive table? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:32, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
I feel like we should leave as is, to give a bit of context for the series. That's what I think. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 23:34, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
Ok will leave for now. Meantime, I've removed the Format column in the competitive section and added prose for context. Hope this works for you! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:39, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Bring Back My Ghouls ?

Should Bring Back My Ghouls be included in the one-off specials section? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:14, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

I think it should since it does reflects the franchise. — JuanGLP (talk/contribs) 17:45, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
I don't think it should. The format was VERY different with tips and audience voting. The only connections to the main series seem to be Rupaul and the contestants from the show appearing. >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 00:57, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
@Lil-unique1 I don't think the format should matter. Can you clarify if you'd consider this a one-off television special? ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

My vote is to include as a one-off special. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:26, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

I agree. It is under the WoW umbrella for RPDR.Naraht (talk) 15:32, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
@Noahp2: Do you have an opinion, or are you willing to update the One-off specials table? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:49, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
I haven't seen it so I can't really comment on the content/format but if it's produced by WOW and features mainly Drag Race queens it seems like there would be a good argument for including it. I can add it if that's the consensus. Noahp2 (talk) 18:28, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
@Noahp2 By my assessment, only one editor is against. I believe we have consensus to add for now. Thank you! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:28, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
