Impairment

[edit]

The "hydrology" section says the creek is "impaired," but it would be good to have information about how that term is used in this context. It's certainly not clear to me whether this means the flow is slowed, or the ecosystem within the creek is somehow not functioning properly, or what.

I agree. The "Hydrology" section adds further information, indicating that there are low levels of oxygen, but it seems to me that while a human can be "impaired", the adjective isn't applicable to streams. Terry Thorgaard (talk) 19:32, 27 March 2015 (UTC) Also, the reference from which this word comes refers to Harveys Lake, not the creek. I am not sure what, if any difference there may be. 19:48, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Impaired is a designation, not a description, and it is often applied to streams in the United States. The ref is technically about Harveys Lake, but mentions East Fork Harveys Creek on page 19. --Jakob (talk) aka Jakec 19:52, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jacob. I now see the note in the reference which indeed declares that East Fork is also impaired. Terry Thorgaard (talk) 19:59, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
