Question for Admin.

[edit]

I had the very clear impression that this page was not always called "Edmar (Footballer)." My own distinct recollection, relating to when I added this page to my watchlist, is that the page was called initially "Edmar Halowski de Lacerda," i.e. just the guy's name... Then today I saw the edits and realized that the page name was changed. But I don't recall seeing anything about a possible name change for the page. So I went and looked into the page history, and I can't find there any mention of a possible name change. And yet, the recollection above in my memory persists. Can an Admin please explain to me what happened here? How was the page name changed but one cannot see in the page history any mention of a possible name change? I'd appreciate that. Edmar (footballer)Edmar (footballer, born 1980) – Disambiguation. See also Edmar (footballer, born 1941), Edmar (footballer, born 1960), Edmar (footballer, born 1981), and Edmar (footballer, born 1982). This Edmar does not seem exceptionally notable. The article says he is retired from football and mentions only one goal and 15 games. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:08, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I don't understand much about the technicalities of redirects and don't care much about them one way or the other. I just wanted to clarify that he played 15 times for the Ukrainian national team, but that is apart from his club career, which is detailed in the page. But, what is unique about this player is that he started playing football in Brazil, where he was born, and through football he moved to the Ukraine. There he got married and became a naturalized Ukrainian citizen. There are not many Brazilian football players that ended up as naturalized citizens of the Ukraine like him. I myself never heard of any other case like that. That is all, and it may not be enough. But that is that. Thank you, warshy (¥¥) 21:09, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That may all be true, but lots of footballers move from one country to another; it doesn't make them especially notable. Moving between that particular pair of countries doesn't make him a primary topic over, say, Edmar (footballer, born 1982) who moved from Brazil to Cyprus.
