POV Tag Removed

I can understand why this tag has been added. After reading through the article it is pretty clear the author does not like FIFA Football compared to Pro-Evo. I have re-writtn some paragraph and edited others to remove all POV references. Whether someone thinks FIFA is better than Pro-Evo is their opinion but it is not the right place for an encyclopedia article. Any comments are welcome. Jamie 16:36, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I see that not much has been discussed here... anyway, anyone played FIFA 06 on PS2 lately? I have using Manager Mode for Liverpool, and I kept on getting fired. That happened to anyone?

This isn't a hints and tips portal, you shouldn't expect any chat other than that regarding the article. Check out http://footballcommunity.ea.com/forum/ instead. Jamie 11:43, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I support liverpool...... try to bring in some quality cheap players and that should work

Separate infoboxes

I like the idea displayed in Final Fantasy, where each release has its own separate infobox. Obviously with sports series the games don't necessarily change enough from year to year to demand their own articles, but I think that each deserves its own infobox in this page. Anybody agree? --Tristam 17:51, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Fifa 95

I see Fifa 95 as being listed only for genesis. According to GameFAQs, there was a release for Game Gear. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I haven't found much info on the web. Mobygames seems to not list this title for GG. Timbatron 19:34, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

How come Fifa 95 is not listed at all? It was a popular addition to the series which not only sold well, but included various new features.

Netherlands

Why, in all football video games circa around 2001, is the Dutch national football team never licensed? Is the Dutch FA stringent about its licensing laws, or something? Icanhearthegrassgrow 13:46, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

A game is missing?

Should "World Cup 98" be included in this article? It's not really in the Fifa series, but it's a sequel to "Fifa 98 - Road to World Cup" isn't it? --Jambalaya 14:23, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

FIFA SeriesFIFA series – The current article name violates Wikipedia:Naming conventions by capitalizing "Series" (as opposed to NBA Live series, NHL series and MVP Baseball series). FIFA '98: RTWC - Indoor football

An important thing that is missing from the article is mentioning the indoor stadium that allowed to play 5vs5 games in a quite unique field. Don't know if there's another (good) football game with this... --Madmax.ptz 17:39, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Fifabox.jpg

Image:Fifabox.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Where is Fifa 98?

In 98, i played a game just called "Fifa 98", not road to world cup fifa 98, this is not that game, and it's not even mentioned in the fifa games series page. What gives? Zlatko 04:53, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

There was FIFA 98 Road to World Cup, and World Cup 98, but I've never heard of a plain FIFA 98. What system was it on, and what region are/were you in? Miremare 17:48, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, basically i played it back in 98, and it was just called Fifa 98 on PC (Canada), it DID have crystal method in it, it had a bunch of good music in it, but i dont remember it EVER having Blur's Song 2, or that Chumbawumba song. I remember specifically there were 2 games in 98, the first one is the one i played. It might have been called road to world cup, but there should be 2 games for 98. Zlatko 19:48, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I think the most likely answer is that the Canadian version of FIFA 98 RTWC dropped the subtitle (did Canada qualify? If not, that might explain it) and had different licensed music tracks. I'm pretty sure that different tracks for different regions is standard practise with EA Sports titles, and the article here refers to the UK version's music. Also FIFA 2000 had a slightly different title in the US, so region specific names aren't unheard of either. Miremare 20:05, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I think i figured it out...it's possible i just played World Cup 98 Zlatko 21:25, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Players on the covers

Each game on the list has information on which players were featured on the cover in various countries or regions. I have concerns over the verifiability of these (as none are sourced) not to mention the importance/relevance of such info on this page. They are quite popular targets for modification, usually without comment, and it all smells a little of WP:OR to me. If this info is important it will be possible to source, so I've removed them for now. I propose that only English language ones be mentioned anyway (this is the English language Wikipedia after all, and more detail can be provided on the individual game pages if needed) and that sources should be provided per WP:V. Requested move to less ambiguous title

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: page moved. There was consensus alone here and having the page and the category at the same name is always desirable. The discussion pointed out below at CfD also supported this move. Vegaswikian (talk) 20:06, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

FIFA (series)FIFA (video game series) — Per discussion here, the current title of this article, FIFA (series), appears to be ambiguous. "FIFA" is not the unique name of a video game series, but the name of a real organization (the top governing body of association football), so additional disambiguation is needed to clarify that the "series" in question is a video game series. -- Black Falcon (talk) 05:02, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

  • Oppose I think its current title is perfectly fine. Purplebackpack89 (Notes Taken) (Locker) 15:02, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Support - I don't really have a problem with the current title, but this doesn't sound like a bad idea. – PeeJay 17:38, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Support "Series" is horrible. The World Cup is a "series". 70.29.208.247 (talk) 05:25, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose-ish... WP:VG/GL says "For video game series: Disambiguate by appending "(series)", or, if necessary, "(video game series)". The former is preferable". "If necessary" presumably meaning if there's any other kind of "series" using the same name, which in the case if FIFA, isn't the case as far as I'm aware..? Miremare 15:11, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
    • Comment I would say that the FIFA World Cup would be the primary usage and topic of a "FIFA series". 70.29.208.247 (talk) 05:17, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
      • But... FIFA is the sport's world governing body, and the World Cup is a tournament. Personally, I have never before heard of FIFA being another name for the World Cup, or the World Cup being described as a "series". Miremare 20:35, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
        • This is exactly a case where "(video game series)" is necessary. lil2mas (talk) 16:37, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
          • Then explain why. "(Video game series)" is necessary only where there is ambiguity between two or more articles, which is why the guideline says that plain "(series)" is preferable. "FIFA (series)" can't credibly refer anything else, as there is no other series of anything called "FIFA". Miremare 17:15, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Support, as per nominator... Series is too ambiguous! lil2mas (talk) 16:37, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
    • We don't disambiguate unless a naming conflict exists, or make disambiguation tags any longer than they need to be. All video game series articles use "(series)" unless there is another conflicting series with the same name, but so far nobody has shown where this naming conflict is. I have reverted the move of this article to EA Sports FC. I have done this because it's not clear that the new name applies to the old games, and FIFA have stated that the FIFA video game series will continue with a new developer. Until further clarity is available on how this will work, the article probably shouldn't be moved without consensus. Stifle (talk) 13:17, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

FIFA (video game series)EA Sports FC – New name is official, FIFA is considered no longer a game title 2001:448A:2061:1BE6:B939:ECF8:329D:DC29 (talk) 14:19, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

  • Oppose I'm in the mind that this should be the FIFA article and the EA Sports FC series article should be an entirely new article altogether. SportingFlyer T·C 16:02, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Especially because FIFA may find another developer to continue the series. SportingFlyer T·C 16:02, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
It doesn't entirely make sense to split the articles, given that EA Sports FC 24 is a direct successor to FIFA 23, just renamed. If anything, a new FIFA licensed series should be considered separate as it would be built up from scratch.. Joyconn (talk) 03:22, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
FIFA still have the rights and have said they are planning to sell the rights to another developer. We've done this before with Football Manager and Championship Manager, there's absolutely no reason this should be any different. SportingFlyer T·C 19:07, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Although that is a similar case, there is a key difference: Football Manager was created due to a split between a developer (Sports Interactive) and a publisher (Eidos). The FIFA game franchise is EA's, it has always been developed and published by EA. In fact, FIFA 23's official name was "EA Sports FIFA 23"; the article is about EA Sports' football series rather than games licensed by FIFA. Joyconn (talk) 23:38, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
We traditionally follow games by their license, though, not their developer. FIFA owns the license and it's very possible the rights to FIFA 24 gets purchased by say Konami. SportingFlyer T·C 12:36, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
If Konami were to make a future FIFA game (such as FIFA 24), it would either be a new series or potentially a continuation of the PES/eFootball series. EA's series was officially titled "EA Sports FIFA", and has been rebranded to "EA Sports FC". FC 24 is a successor to EA Sports FIFA 23 (the game's official name), and is part of the same series. Joyconn (talk) 18:46, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
eFootball was just a rebrand of PES, though, and it has its own separate page. That's my exact point - we go with the brand, not the publisher. SportingFlyer T·C 22:48, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
eFootball is listed as an entry in the Pro Evolution Soccer article, and has its own page for the EFootball game. They aren’t split articles for 2 different series. Despite the rebranding, the game eFootball is part of the PES series. In the same way, FC 24 is part of the FC/EA Sports FIFA series. It doesn’t make sense to split the article when FC and FIFA are one series that has been rebranded. Joyconn (talk) 02:33, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose, we're not going to retcon 30 years of video games history because of this renaming. Perhaps a split would work, but that's beyond the scope of this RM. 162 etc. (talk) 18:02, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Splitting the articles wouldn't work, given that FC 24 is a direct successor to FIFA 23 and therefore EA Sports FC is a continuation of EA's FIFA franchise. If a new developer were to make a FIFA branded game, that would be classified as a new and separate series from EA's. Joyconn (talk) 03:27, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Perhaps a way to solve it is to move the article, but include the former name at the start of the article: "EA Sports FC (formerly known as FIFA)" Joyconn (talk) 03:30, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Support, despite being renamed the EA Sports FC series is a continuation of EA's FIFA series. It should be treated as a rebranding rather than the start of a new series; and as such the article should be moved. Joyconn (talk) 03:36, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose the majority of games in the series are called FIFA, so until that changes, where the majority of shipped units is EA FC, then that's not likely to be the common name for the franchise. The Franchise would exist at the common name, regardless of whatever titles are used by the latest games -- 67.70.25.80 (talk) 23:38, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
The article should be up to date with the series, and therefore should be renamed accordingly. Although all the previous games are named FIFA, all the upcoming games from now on will be named EA Sports FC and the series has undergone a rebrand. A potential solution could be to include the series' former name at the start of the article. Joyconn (talk) 02:38, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
When PES got rebranded, we created a new article. SportingFlyer T·C 12:36, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
eFootball is a free to play game that is updated every year with new rosters and such. That article is about the eFootball game, which is an entry to the PES series. However, the EA Sports FIFA series was rebranded to EA Sports FC, and there will be multiple installments in the series under that name going forward. Joyconn (talk) 18:42, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Right. So there should be two separate articles, because we have articles based on the brand, not the publisher. SportingFlyer T·C 22:48, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Support as mentioned elsewhere, the video game colloquially known as "FIFA" is technically "EA Sports FIFA," and FC24 is technically "EA Sports FC 2024." FC is a continuation of the video game formerly known as FIFA, as evidenced by the fact that they run on the same engine. The "EA Sports FC (formerly known as FIFA)" compromise makes sense here. Support - It's the same game with the name changed, it's advertised in FIFA 23 as the next title in that series. If another developer picks up the license and makes their own FIFA title, put a link to the other article on both FC and the new FIFA's page AlenaEK (talk) 19:18, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Oppose - I can see three articles in future - this one (FIFA (EA video game series), FIFA (developer name video game series) and EA Sports FC (video game series). These video games have universally been known as "FIFA" over the 30 years - to rename the article would not be helpful or clear to readers. It would disconnect the article from the commonly used name for the series over the near 30 years, as per WP:UCRN. My suggestion - create a brand new EA Sports FC page - and have a section on this page about the rebrand/move away from the FIFA branding.

  • Oppose per Sporting Flyer, and instead worth a new article (similar to Championship Manager/Football Manager a few years ago?) GiantSnowman 18:32, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

FIFA 06?

Why is it left out of the list?
