[edit]

Is it traditional to give a gift to the child who is having his hair cut? I am not jewish but have been invited to my friend's twins first hair cut and am not sure what is etiquette for the occasion.

Muslim tradition

[edit]

I have heard that it is a Muslim tradition to weigh the cuttings of the first haircut, and then donate the equivalent weight in gold to charity. If someone can confirm this and provide details, it should be added to the article. —Psychonaut 09:06, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Slavanic tradition

[edit]

First hair cut(Postrzyżyny in Polish) was also in Salvanic (at least Polish) tradition. It used to be in first ages of christianity in Piasts' Poland one of Sacraments if I know correctly. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.24.168.158 (talk) 12:20, 16 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Mongolian hair-cutting

[edit]

The sentence in this section is a bit confusing. It might help to add that Mongolian boys typically have their hair cut at either the age of 3 or 5 and girls either the age 4 or 6. While the lunar year may be even or odd, the ages are usually odd for boys and even for girls. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jemacole (talkcontribs) 21:14, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Niue

[edit]

There's also a ceremony called hifiulu on the island of Niue in Polynesia where the hair of a boy is ceremonially cut. -- pne (talk) 11:13, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Military Haircut

[edit]

This is considered a rite of passage, is it not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.203.73.30 (talk) 19:11, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
