Obama

[edit]

Does anyone have any evidence that Raines is an economic advisor to Obama? The only thing I found was a WaPo story that said that Raines had received calls from the Obama campaign. He is certainly not "chief economic advisor." If anyone has anything on this please reply. Otherwise I'll investigate further at the end of the day. If I can't find anything more substantial, I'll remove the references to Obama.206.190.137.34 (talk) 18:37, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He's not. Fixed. http://www.mcclatchydc.com/100/story/32315.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.166.36.56 (talk) 20:44, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yeah, I found no mention of Raines with Obama until a September 8, 2008 article in the American Spectator that claimed he was one of Obama's chief economic advisors. The article was written by someone who prefers anonymity, just the moniker The Prowler.206.190.137.34 (talk) 20:49, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I included a mention of the ad and denial as it is notable considering it involves him in the presidential campaign. I sourced the politico piece and think that should be sufficient unless we also need an article referring to the ad. A right wing blog releases lists two articles the McCain campaign is referring to as evidence of a link: (Anita Huslin, "On The Outside Now, Watching Fannie Falter," The Washington Post, 7/16/08) and The Washington Post: 'Two Members Of Mr. Obama's Political Circle, James A. Johnson And Franklin D. Raines, Are Former Chief Executives Of Fannie Mae.' (Editorial, 'Tough Decision Coming,' The Washington Post, 8/28/08). I imagine this will devolve into a he said/she said argument, so I've tried to include it in a neutral way. I just edited it again so it reflected the ad more accurately, but I think the sentence structure is now very poor.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.188.246.45 (talkcontribs)
What was fixed? The article still says Raines is an economic advisor to Obama.Nadalotta (talk) 00:16, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just deleted that part as it is unconfirmed and as I'd already referred to the debate over the nature of the relationship at the bottom of the article.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.188.246.45 (talkcontribs)
The legitmate references to Raines are restored. 204.97.218.131 (talk) 18:50, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is the note about Obama receiving lobbying money from Fannie Mae relevant to the article on Raines? It sticks out as a partisan snipe to me.75.164.228.65 (talk) 06:22, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected some inaccuracies in the sentence regarding Obama receiving money from Fannie Mae employees; however, I don't think it's relevant to the article on Raines.206.190.137.34 (talk) 20:32, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why does this portion of the article deserve 1/3 of the total length? The man was in his role at FNMA for a total of 10 years. Surely there are fascinating things during his tenure that can be covered. The section looks like it was added during the election so I understand why people were passionate about it. The section also ends pretty weakly: 'He said, she said'. A year later, who really cares? Should this be moved to an article entitled "Political Campaign Attempts to Connect Obama to Raines", or "Political Campaign Attempts to Connect Obama to People With Negative Public Perceptions"?

You hit the nail on the head with those suggested titles. That's all it was about. Raines claims to some WP reporter that the Obama camp telephoned for advice and all of a sudden he's Obama's chief economic advisor to the Republicans because he has a bad rep for mortgage crisis stuff. I think the matter deserves some mention but should be abbreviated. DanielM (talk) 21:39, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of WA post

[edit]

Is there anyway to flag this post to prevent individuals from deleting the portion of the WA Post. A number of people keep deleting that section. It is correctly cited and should be presented —Preceding unsigned comment added by Herzogrw (talkcontribs) 19:07, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"...Fannie C.E.O. from 1999 to 2004, had been budget director in the Clinton White House. He cooked the books at Fannie to increase his compensation (more than $50 million)." http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/john-steele-gordon-on-the-financial-mess-greed-stupidity-delusion-and-some-more-greed/ I do not know if it should be included in the article (or even if it is true). Heaven forbid we should criticize any Democrat "...even if it is true."

$700 billion bailout

[edit]

Since the price of the bailout has now been fixed at $700 billion dollars the last few days I think this information needs to be incorporated into the article.

There is a C-Span clip of Franklin Raines promoting a one trillion dollar Fannie Mae fund for subprime loans - this should be mentioned and it is surprising that is absent from the piece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FewmvkaTXHU&feature=player_embedded

Name

[edit]

In the article on Raines, the nickname "Fred" seems to have been added to his name fairly recently. I have never heard Raines referred to as Fred, but rather as Franklin or Frank, so I think this should be changed. 129.25.28.73 (talk) 18:53, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

While reading this, I thought of the late Reginald Lewis, former owner of Beatrice Foods TLC. I do not know if he was the first such A A, but he definitely preceded Raines' (dubious) achievement. This error is apparently attributed to Ebony magazine, to which I have been a subscriber for a number of years. But it seems they forgot about Lewis also, as well as other firsts, possibly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.225.149.190 (talk) 22:45, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When an editorial is a dead link there is no alternative source, so should the supported content then be removed?--LedgerTom (talk) 16:17, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
