Two saxophonists named Fred Jackson

[edit]

Note that there are (at least) two saxophonists named "Fred Jackson." Fred Jackson began performing in the 1950s in Atlanta, while Fred Jackson, Jr. emerged during the late 1960s or early 1970s. The two musicians have been conflated elsewhere in Wikipedia (and throughout the internet, e.g. at Last.fm). The biographical text in Fred Jackson (saxophonist) referred to the younger musician, so I moved it to Fred Jackson, Jr.. I am changing Fred Jackson (saxophonist) so it is an article about the older musician (instead of a redirect to Fred Jackson, Jr. following the page move). I hope that isn't too confusing, but it didn't make much sense to further disambiguate, e.g. with "Fred Jackson (tenor saxophonist)". -- Gyrofrog (talk) 18:24, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discography

[edit]

(I originally posted this at WP:REREQ, but it's better suited for this talk page)

FYI: As I recall (not that that's worth much), Allmusic (at least to some extent) treated both individuals as the same person, and I strongly suspect the discographical details in Fred Jackson (saxophonist) (specifically, those from the 1970s onward) are about Fred Jackson Jr. For example, compare Fred Jackson's credits at Allmusic with Fred Jackson Jr.'s, scroll down to 1973 and notice where they overlap (I suppose it's possible, but I think highly unlikely, that both individuals appeared on the same recordings). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:23, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The content in question had since been removed and, as of this writing, it's no longer an issue. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:17, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
