Do not duplicate Underground Railroad

Do not duplicate this article - for instance, people who gained freedom via the UR are better listed in that article. I think this one needs more about distinctions of 1850 law, effects on fugitives, and high-profile cases such as the freeing of Jane Johnson in Philadelphia and the Christiana Resistance, as well as court cases.Parkwells (talk) 21:21, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Issue of global view

I don't think a global view adds too much to this subject, as conditions varied widely in time and place. At least one article should deal with issues in the US, where fugitive slaves were most numerous and notable in the antebellum years - that's definable. Let's get that done first. Fugitive slave → Fugitive slaves in the United States – The article is mostly about fugitive slaves in the United States. It does not mention other countries. Perhaps, we could create articles elaborating in slavery in each country that it played a major part in. Davidoko99 (talk) 21:33, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

  • Support a stub can be built out of the intro paragraph, and a US section with a {{main}} to point to this article, with a summary style paragraph can be done, from the remainder of the intro. The edit history should remain with this article.     • It's a fairly extensive article on the US situation, so it would be better to move it and summarize to prevent having an unbalanced article, since the US situation itself should be deserving of its own article. -- 70.50.151.11 (talk) 23:17, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Support. The proposed title more accurately reflects the current contents of the article. The article has existed for nearly 10 years and has yet to be expanded beyond the US. In response to the opposers on the grounds of 'it's not needed yet' - the question has already arisen of whether this article should only be about slavery in the United States or have a more global view. If we can answer that question now, why wait until it becomes a bigger problem? Solving the problem now will enable an editor who is ready to write content on the global topic to do so without having to go through a long talk page discussion first.--Wikimedes (talk) 18:47, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
