Update required[edit]

Not sure how to do it myself, but someone should now update the "former Football League clubs" bit as seen on this page, I think. RobinCarmody (talk) 05:02, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What is the exact change required? Perhaps an edit to {{Former football league members}} will work. If I can't do it I'll post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Non-league football.--Commander Keane (talk) 06:55, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done that, and also changed Maidstone United's entry to that of the original club - however, I can't get the template between the clubs' names right. Any idea how that is done? RobinCarmody (talk) 02:07, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Updated.[edit]

I have updated the article to a standard use of grammar and tidied it up. Zerowing22 (talk) 14:03, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

Should not have early history as this is a different club. May I suggest that this be put on seperate articles? Fergyc123 (talk)

Players[edit]

Whereas I realise it's not a unique thing to any club, a few Gateshead players past and present are now on Twitter with publically readable accounts. Would it be of any relevance to link to this, perhaps link them in with the players section?

Thanks

Rickymack (talk) 17:51, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't seen this happen with any other club articles. If anything, their Twitter accounts would be linked to on the player's own article. Jcarls1 (talk) 18:02, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gateshead FC Ladies[edit]

As of the 27th May 2020, Gateshead have announced that they will be forming a Ladies team for the 2020/21 season.

I wonder if someone could potentially create an article about Gateshead Ladies FC as this is the first time that the club have created a women's team.

This is the link to Gateshead's official website, announcing the creation. https://www.gateshead-fc.com/news/heed-to-launch-first-ever-ladies-team-2538623.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pizza Slayer (talkcontribs) 22:58, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A separate article on the women's team should not be created until it's demonstrated that they are notable enough for a standalone article (generally the bar is them competing in the national cup competition). The link also notes that the FA are yet to approve the team's entry into a league, so any mention of them is jumping the gun. Number 57 23:01, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Records section - transfer fee[edit]

Under the records section, it says that Lee Novak is the record selling fee for 150K. Is Marcus Maddison to Peterborough United not the transfer fee now for 250k? https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/wonderkid-marcus-maddison-says-naivety-7683172 Michaeldble (talk) 14:11, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I've updated it. Number 57 14:27, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Honours - play-off winners[edit]

I noticed that 2009 play-off winners was removed from the honours section: "rm non-honours". All other club pages seem to include the play-offs in their honours so I was wondering why this was an exception? Would it not make more sense to include it to maintain consistency with other pages? Michaeldble (talk) 12:13, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's not an exception; I have hundreds of non-league club articles on my watchlist and none of them have being play-off winners in the honours list. Winning a play-off is not an honour. Number 57 21:07, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You may well be right, I just don't understand the logic behind not including it. The play-offs are a tournament which you have to win in order to get promoted, then you lift a trophy. That seems like the definition of an honour surely? Featured articles such as York City, Dover Athletic, Norwich City and Ipswich Town all include them. Michaeldble (talk) 12:45, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you finish second (or even third) in many leagues, you get promoted; that also isn't an honour. Number 57 12:49, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes but you don't lift a trophy or win a competition by finishing as runners-up, you do for the play-offs. Has there been any discussions on this subject before for guidance? Michaeldble (talk) 12:58, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The play-offs is just an extension of the league campaign, it's not a separate competition. It's nonsense that finishing second is not an honour, but scraping into fifth or sixth place then winning a couple more matches is (and I say this is an Ipswich fan who was at Wembley in 2000). Re previous discussions, it has come up repeatedly at WT:FOOTY, but there is no consensus on the matter (generally editors in favour tend to be those whose club has won a play-off series and want to add it to their club's honours list). Number 57 22:26, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there's no clear consensus, I'll leave it be. Thanks for explaining! Michaeldble (talk) 09:08, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed this discussion. I'm surprised to see that play-offs and indeed promotions more generally are apparently not regarded as honours, and quite taken aback that one justification being used to exclude them is that one editor has "hundreds of non-league club articles on [their] watchlist and none of them have being play-off winners in the honours list". Including only league or cup titles seems a very narrow definition of an honour, and I'm surprised that would be the case for club articles when player honours generally include runners-up and promotions. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:39, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm surprised you're surprised – you must have seen the many discussion on this at WT:FOOTBALL (this or this being a couple of examples). Cheers, Number 57 15:05, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the List of Gateshead F.C. seasons article, I noticed that this article covers all seasons back to 1930 to include Gateshead A.F.C. which has been defunct since 1973. However, the current club was formed in 1977. Are these not two separate clubs and therefore should there not be two separate articles? Thanks in advance Michaeldble (talk) 16:20, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They are separate clubs and I think the list article should be curtailed to only include this one. There could be separate list for Gateshead A.F.C. Number 57 16:25, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
s, I think that's the right thing to do. I'll sort that over the next few days Michaeldble (talk) 19:42, 22 April 2024 (UTC)e[reply]
