Contested speedy deletion[edit]

I created several articles for high schools when i first started editing, Liberty High School (Clarksburg, West Virginia), Washington Irving High School (West Virginia), and Kelly Miller High School which is similar to this article because it is closed. Pressure was put on me when I created these articles to show notability, I was only holding the same standard that was held to me. Garkeith (talk) 15:54, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree with tagging these types of articles, including the ones you mentioned, for speedy deletion. Might I suggest that adding a {{notability}} as an alternative. It calls attention for more editors to look and review. If you agree that this article does not need deletion, perhaps you can remove the speedy deletion tagging. I made an error in removing it as I should have used a {{hangon}} and have pplaced the speedy and hangon tags back to adhere to process and policy. -- Whpq (talk) 16:45, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that high schools are generally held to be notable -- but this one doesn't currently exist, according to the article itself. Shouldn't this title be a redirect to the existing high school, with a notation in the article about the former school's name, and a stub created for the school that currently occupies the building? It's an oddball. The school itelf was merged with Lord Elgin High School to form Robert Bateman High School. But the physical site was turned into Gary Allan High School, with playing fields being turned into parkland separate from the new school. These fields which were part of the former high school are now under some issues. See [1]. -- Whpq (talk) 17:07, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to mention that if we agree on a merge target, I'm okay with merging the material. -- Whpq (talk) 17:09, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
