Invitation to participate in Wikipedia study[edit]

Hello, I have been contacting editors with experience in specific areas of editing to participate in a survey study. In order to limit access without forcing editors to disclose their identity in the survey form itself, I have been contacting them via email, which you have disabled for your account. If you would like to participate, please send me an email through Wikipedia and I will follow up with additional details and a link to the survey. Jonathan Engel (researcher) (talk) 13:33, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have enabled email. You can now send me the email. -- Whpq (talk) 14:42, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thanks! Jonathan Engel (researcher) (talk) 12:58, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:Aisha Saleh Fantai/sandbox[edit]

Of course drafts are a valid use for a sandbox. But we don't approve of self promotional resumes anywhere on Wikipedia:

As a youth activist and writer, he writes a lot on literature, politics, social development, language, and many more. His activism is becoming stronger, and one of his wishes is to partner with any non-governmental organisations, government, and individuals to initiate a programme that will curb unemployment, drug abuse, community violence, thuggery, insecurity, and other societal menaces bedevilling people around the globe so as to have prosperous, sound, and healthy environments all over the world.

Amir has come across a number of prominent and influential politicians (locals and nationals), intellectuals, diplomats, historians, and many leaders in Nigeria and other countries in the world, especially when he was doing his internship at the National Assembly sponsored by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) with the support from the European Union (EU) in Nigeria. Some of his engagements and encounters include the past and present governors, senators, chairmen, party elders, and other notable people such as Sule Lamido, Badaru Abubakar, Ibrahim Hassan, Inuwa Kashifu Abdullahi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Isah Ali Ibrahim Pantami, and Kashim Shettima. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 01:43, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a resume. It's a badly written draft. Yes it is promotional, but borderline on TNT. -- Whpq (talk) 02:14, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ambarish Anand: Draft[edit]

Dear Wikipedia Editor,

I am writing to contest the proposed deletion of the draft concerning Ambarish Anand. The draft provides a factual and unbiased overview of Ambarish Anand's professional journey, accomplishments, and contributions in the fields of IT services and digital transformation.

The content is well-researched, sourced, and verified, in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines for encyclopedic information. It offers valuable insights into the career and impact of an influential figure in the IT industry, without any promotional or biased language.

Removing this draft would withhold essential information from readers about a significant individual in the IT landscape. I believe the draft adheres to Wikipedia's standards and adds value to the platform by enhancing its knowledge repository. If there i anything specifc you want me to update, pls guide me and i will do it.

I kindly request a comprehensive review of the draft based on Wikipedia's guidelines and criteria.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Ambarish2anand (talk) 09:48, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've reviewed the deleted draft. It is pure, 100% promotional to the point where it would need to be completely rewritten. It was deleted appropriately under speedy deletion criterion G11. This is not just my opinion. It is also the opinion of two other administrators who also deleted the draft for the same reason. -- Whpq (talk) 12:29, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cyndee Landrum page[edit]

This page was recently deleted due to copyright infringement of the source of the information. It is correct that the article cited was the same copy as the entry. The inclusion of that link was a mistake. The link was meant to come from the agency's press release, which was copied by the source originally cited erroneously. Can we reinstate the page with a new link to: https://www.imls.gov/news/institute-museum-and-library-services-announces-acting-director

Gabguru (talk) 18:05, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a message on your talk page. Make sure you read it. I suggest you create a draft and put it through Articles for Creation. Copying a press release is not a good idea. -- Whpq (talk) 18:33, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Burumas depicted in historical photographs[edit]

I added an historical photo of Yuko Mitsuya from 1976 to the article. Thank you for your guidance. TreeElf (talk) 05:10, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unpaid[edit]

Sir I didn't paid by any one but I am always interested in contribution to Wikipedia most especially the article from northern Nigeria. Bamalli01 (talk) 14:56, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Humble petition to revoke deletion of "Daniel Jeddman"[edit]

I honestly didn't see that coming due to the fact that I took my time to just contribute to this article associated to the mentioned name above. Just like I usually do to other articles I dim fit, I researched on Google if there were other credible information attributed to him. I honestly didn't know it infrings a copyright on Wikipedia.

I would kindly ask sincerely to be given the opportunity to remove that citation that might have caused this deletion. I'm still on my way to learn more as a user on Wikipedia. When allowed on draft, I will take my time to get the right things done.

Thank you so much for your consideration. I really appreciate @Whpq Blackan007 (talk) 21:25, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations are not restored. You can start a new draft writing it in your own words. -- Whpq (talk) 21:42, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024[edit]

Hello Whpq,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Irish in Britain Representation Group draft page[edit]

Please reinstate the full draft, all the material quoted or drawn on for the page comes from the IBRG archives 1981 to 2000 which have been posted publicly previously on the Lipstick Socialist blog, run by IBRG member Bernadette Hyland, who created the IBRG wiikpedia draft. We are not contraveing copyright , all the material belongs to IBRG. We have no idea who the Anarchist Federation are, mentioned in the reason for deletion... they ,nothing to with IBRG but they have reposted posts that appeared first on the Lipstick Socialist posted by Bernadeette Hyland and written by IBRG member Patrick Reynolds So if anyone has contravened copyright it is this organisation . . Re: File:Norman Lowell campaigning in 2019 MEP election.png[edit]

Why was my dispute in the talk page of this file regarding it totally ignored and the image deleted anyway without addressing my dispute?

Mtonna257 (talk) 15:13, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The deleting admin was User:Explicit so they would need to give you the official answer. But my likely accurate guess is that they did not ignore your dispute rationale. It's simply that it failed to convincingly address the reason for deletion. WP:NFC is pretty clear on this with Non-free content should not be used when a freely licensed file that serves the same purpose can reasonably be expected to be uploaded, as is the case for almost all portraits of living people. -- Whpq (talk) 15:38, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on adding sources to the article right now. Someone just nominated the article for speedy deletion once again, though. Could you please remove their speedy deletion tag for the second time?--LadybugStardust (talk) 03:37, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of Copy notation[edit]

You deleted my article Copy notation as invented but I didn't invent it, and it is in the Approximations section in User:JrandWP/Twenty-twos — Preceding unsigned comment added by Numspan33 (talkcontribs) 20:48, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is completely unsourced, and from what I could see, likely would remain that way. But, I've restored it to Draft:Copy notation so you can work on it. -- Whpq (talk) 21:00, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Image seems PD[edit]

It seems i improperly uploaded File:Official Portrait of Emperor Haile Selassie I.jpg on The English Wiki, it should and now i have uploaded it on Commons, since according to the "Copyright Act 1956" Any work before June 1956 is in the Public Domain whether Government Works of Private Works, for the Painting dating to 1954, this is because it appears Edward Copnall painted it while Selassie received his Order of the Garter which was in 1954. So this work does appear overwhelmingly to be a 2 Dimensional Photography of an Artwork dated to the early 50s which makes it Public Domain. You could delete it from the English Wiki since again it its supposed to be on Commons CtasACT (talk) 21:55, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CSD U5[edit]

Hi Whpq, I saw you declined a couple of CSD tags I placed under U5 for example here. This draft is not suitable for mainspace, hasn't been edited in 13 years, and is from a contributor who has made not a single other contribution. This kind of misuse of userspace as a de facto webhost is routinely deleted under U5 so I'm quite surprised by your decision. AusLondonder (talk) 07:05, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These are drafts in user space. Creating a draft is certainly something that would qualify as writings closely related to Wikipedia's goals. These are drafts for things that quite plausibly could be articles as opposed to a biography of my pet dog Rexie-poo. As such they do not meet the criteria for U5 irrespective of the age of the draft or the amount of other contributions made by the editor. That is not to say that these should not be deleted, but that would need to be through WP:MFD. If these are the being deleted U5, and the community agrees that these should be speedily deleted, then this needs to be reflected in the U5 criteria, or a new CSD created. -- Whpq (talk) 13:28, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree with your interpretation of U5 and you are the only admin to reject speedy deletions under this criteria for users who have made few or no other edits. AusLondonder (talk) 16:52, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
