The paper was not retracted[edit]

The article states that the paper by Heads et al. (2017a) [reference 1] was retracted. This is not the case. The paper is still considered published and is available at PLOS ONE with a note about the correction which was published elsewhere. The note at the top of the PLOS ONE paper states the following:

"21 Jun 2018: The PLOS ONE Editors (2018) Correction: The oldest fossil mushroom. PLOS ONE 13(6): e0199660. https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0199660"

It then contains a link to the correction published by PLOS ONE that refers to the Mycological Progress paper formalizing the name that was published by Heads et al. (2017b) in order to make the names available. This correction can be found here. The Mycological Progress paper makes reference to the diagnosis and illustration of the genus and species in the PLOS ONE paper in order to make the new names available.

It is important to ensure that the terms "retraction" and "retracted" are used correctly, which is not the case here. The paper was corrected not retracted and this should be clearly stated in the Wikipedia article. 2601:240:8400:8410:D1A3:CD98:D425:8FDA (talk) 21:32, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
