2.2 and Background Processes?

At WWDC 2008, they talked about a unified push notification service being available in September. (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7DZj5EY7L4) And "On September 25, 2008, Apple released the first Beta SDK (labeled Build 9M2611) for targeting iPhone OS version 2.2 (Build 5G29)."

Delete iPod touch references

Modem Firmware (Baseband) ?

Can someone provide a legend for the table headers and their significance? For instance "Modem Firmware (Baseband)" What does that actually mean to me as an iPhone owner? 2.2 lists 3g, does that mean I can't use it if I don't have 3g? BASEBAND is the GSM-Modem firmware of the iPhone! It is not so important to know the exact meaning of this but you must know (If your carrier not approved by Apple) that the unlocking process done on the iPhone baseband! So if you have previously unlocked your iPhone after updating BASEBAND your phone get locked and you must unlock it again! As you see 2.2 lists both 3G & 2G model! Abuse by MiszaBot I (deletion of threads claimed to be archiving)

MiszaBot I claims to be archiving old threads from this talk page, but is in fact deleting them. For instance, the threads supposedly archived on November 12 are NOT on the archive page. This may or may not be intentional, but it makes all edits by MiszaBot I suspect, and it needs to stop. Style issues

This article is not written as if it were part of an encyclopedia. It assumes the reader is intimately familiar with the technical terms and casual lingo of a moderately proficient computer user. "Bottom bar in Safari is now semi transparent", for example, doesn't tell a casual reader anything other than something might be invisible right now. It's not in the past tense (This firmware version was released to developers. Past tense.), it uses the term "semitransparent" which does not have an immediate meaning to someone who doesn't know what the interface is, let alone what it looks like, it doesn't clue the reader into how this would affect the user, etc etc rant rant. I'm not trying to bash anyone in particular; the entire article suffers from this.

To extend my example, I'd use the haughty-taughty wording "Changed the navigation controls across the bottom of the display in Safari from opaque to partially transparent, making the portion of the web page behind the controls visible"

Obviously I have the time to compose a rant on the talk page, so why don't I do it myself? Because I care about the quality of the article, but I don't have the language gymnastic abilities to do it on a larger scale. Maybe soon, but not today. 70.91.178.185 (talk) 01:38, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Tables always rock

The table format isn't useful here for 2x up. 1x is fine, as theres a time-based element to incremental changes, and the "features" lists are short. In 2x and 3x, all of the text is in the features list, and there's nothing but dead air on the left. -99.29.63.161 (talk) 03:07, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Resorting tables

Tables

The tables are far too wide, especially the table for version 2.x. The Build and Modem columns take up too much space for as little text as they have.

Just thought I'd mention even with an iPhone 3G (not 3GS) my baseband with 3.1 is 05.11.07, not 05.11.04. Stormscape 00:57, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

iPod touch 3.1/3.1.1

I just got a new 3rd gen 8GB touch today and it came with 3.1 installed while 3.1.1 was the version released for iPod touches. iTunes automatically offers to upgrade to 3.1.1 as expected. I dunno what the differences are between the two versions, but it should probably be listed for completeness. It has the same build number (7C144) as the iPhone 3.1 version. Should this page also denote undisclosed changes in version history, such as:

Some 3rd party video output cables no longer work in 3.0

Some 3rd party chargers/docks experience reduced functionality (lack of charging, or just don't work) in 3.1.2
