Is there a credible source for the somewhat unusual spelling (Traore instead of Traoré)? 31.17.145.202 (talk) 14:45, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

At a glance, a slight majority of English-language news sources are omitting the acute accent. I could see either being the correct title. For now, I've moved the footballer to Ibrahim Traoré (footballer) and retargeted Ibrahim Traoré here. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 03:31, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe this page could be moved to Ibrahim Traoré (Burkinabé military officer). Khronicle I (talk) 10:45, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think there's a need to disambiguate. A head of state is basically always going to be the primary topic for a name, especially over a fairly run-of-the-mill athlete. So it should be either Ibrahim Traore or Ibrahim Traoré. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 10:51, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think we should just move this to the correct title including the diacritic. —Nightstallion 20:57, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ibrahim TraoreIbrahim Traoré – his last name is written this way in most if not all Burkinabe, French, and some Anglosaxon media. French being the official language in Burkina Faso, I don't see the need to anglicize his name. https://lefaso.net/spip.php?article116466 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-63111763 https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/02/world/africa/burkina-faso-coup-france-russia.html NorthAfricanArmsDealer (talk) 22:25, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Support per nom. His name is Traoré, so Traoré it should be. ~Gum 21:08, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
