Comments[edit]

I know nothing on F-3k (thus this is why I'm reading this article ;-) but some wiki links should be disambiguated. --Julien 20:28, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Grading[edit]

I have given this a Start-class rating, as it is not quite at B-class level. In particular, it is in need of references and one or two images. Adrian M. H. 00:03, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:F3000.gif[edit]

Image:F3000.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:22, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed split[edit]

Because this article does not really distinguish enough between Formula 3000 as a general specification and its most important series, International Formula 3000, I propose that the following changes are made:

  1. Move this page to International Formula 3000.
  2. Redirect Formula 3000 to International Formula 3000, as 99% of existing links will follow this pattern.
  3. Create Formula 3000 (disambiguation), with a brief description of the car specification, its replacement of F2 and its replacement by GP2 as the sub-F1 formula (but that some F3000 series still run), and a list of relevant articles: International Formula 3000, Euro Formula 3000, Formula Nippon (Japanese F3000), etc.
  4. Add a disambiguation message linking to Formula 3000 (disambiguation) from International Formula 3000. (i.e. .)
  5. Move content from International Formula 3000 on other series to the relevant articles.

Are there any other opinions on this matter?--Diniz(talk) 02:13, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a lot of work but well worth doing. I think part of the problem is that F2, F3000 and GP2 articles tell different parts of the same story. I like the idea of a disambiguation article that glues it all together. Pete Fenelon (talk) 12:48, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I too agree with moving this to International Formula 3000, keeping the current name as a redirect, and creating Formula 3000 (disambiguation), which should have links to Japanese Formula 3000 (as a redirect to Formula Nippon) and British Formula 3000 (currently a redirect here - we should also discuss whether we should call it British F3000 or British F2 - there were name changes throughout its history but they were the same series) alongside the existing Euro Formula 3000 and F4000/F. Holden. --Pc13 (talk) 16:26, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've made the changes.--Diniz(talk) 23:57, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I approve of the changes made so far. What do you think of the idea of updating the (appropriate) current links to Formula 3000 to link to International Formula 3000 instead (I realise that's a non-trivial amount of work, but it should be manageable with the help of AWB), and then moving Formula 3000 (disambiguation) to Formula 3000? As a separate question, should the "<year> Formula 3000 season" articles be renamed to "<year> International Formula 3000 season"? DH85868993 (talk) 03:44, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with both of those changes, although I don't have AWB myself.--Diniz(talk) 14:10, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Should we raise the matter at WP:MOTOR for wider discussion before proceeding, since it will affect a lot of pages? DH85868993 (talk) 02:26, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the side-effects are relatively small - I'd just go ahead and do it. If it was F1 you were proposing to modify, or even a current racing series, I'd say go ahead and ask but I think F3000 is isolated enough and the articles are quiet enough that the changes can be done reasonably quickly. Edit all the relevant articles offline, upload in one big bang and use WP:AWB. I think a well-organised blitzkrieg is the way to do this. Pete Fenelon (talk) 13:40, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed all the links to Formula 3000 (and F3000) which should logically be linked to International Formula 3000 instead to link to International Formula 3000. Now, as described above, I'll move Formula 3000 (disambiguation) to Formula 3000. DH85868993 (talk) 09:42, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As I suspected, I can't do the move myself, so I've added it to WP:Requested moves. DH85868993 (talk) 09:55, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The move has been completed. DH85868993 (talk) 22:04, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And I just turned British Formula 3000 from a redirect into a proper page. If anyone cares to take a look at it and improve it, please do. --Pc13 (talk) 17:28, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
