putin?

Jack Nicholson is not involved in politics, a picture with Vladimir Putin is just so random and out of place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.119.87.42 (talk) 10:34, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Filmography section

I'm not sure why Snuggums removed that section, so maybe they can clarify their edit summary. The same kinds of filmography sections linking to a Main article are used in countless film bios, such Stanley Kubrick, Cary Grant and Charlie Chaplin. --Light show (talk) 20:32, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

First of all, WP:OTHERSTUFF using something isn't in itself a particularly strong point. Other articles can have problems that we shouldn't repeat on pages. Secondly, I'm not so worried about Chaplin because his article doesn't solely consist of a referral link and actually has some material to fill out the section. The problem with Kubrick and Grant is that a lone link by itself is useless when it doesn't provide any meaningful information. Referral links alone simply aren't enough to warrant sections. It's a poor use of WP:Summary style. I moved the link to the career section since they both pertain to his film work, and can potentially give detail on films there that aren't included in this article. If you look at the samples included on the page I linked, then it shows you better examples of summarizing than just a lone referral link. I therefore figured that the "career" section was better for containing it than just having section with a lone referral link. Snuggums (talk / edits) 20:39, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Understood. And I read the Summary style article, which implies that a Filmography section would actually be fine, and somewhat necessary. But your implication is that the word filmography will not be understood by average readers if they saw it as a TOC section and need to have some text telling them first what it was. Then it's better to fix it than just delete it. For many readers that one section is critical, since it's similar to the way IMDB presents filmographies of actors.
In any case, it's simple to add some explanation about what a "filmography" is and maybe why it's a separate article, or expand the lead to those filmography pages. I hope you can get some consensus for such a radical move as to delete entire Filmography sections on countless articles. As it is, it seems to be mostly based on your opinion. Until such a consensus is reached, somewhere, those sections should be restored. And I don't see any problem with keeping a hatlink in the career sections since a minor duplication of a critical main page article link seems reasonable. --Light show (talk) 21:02, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
If a filmography section actually contained text on an actor's film work (whether it was paragraphs discussing work or a full list of films), then I wouldn't be so worried, but a referral link on its own is flat out useless. Snuggums (talk / edits) 21:07, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
OK. So can you give an example of how you would do that for Nicholson or Grant that isn't redundant to the preceding sections or lead? --Light show (talk) 22:40, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
If you mean text discussing works without simple repetition, then see articles like Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, or maybe Julianne Moore. These articles each make certain notes on the works while also containing links to filmography pages. Snuggums (talk / edits) 23:04, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Except Moore does have a Filmography section and link. The only difference is that someone listed films based on a ratings site. As we know, that's risky, and is still redundant to the lead of someone like Nicholson, whose article has 6,000 words devoted to his films. I didn't see any linked filmography articles for Cooper or Stone. But are you implying that average readers won't know what a Filmography is when they see it in a TOC, or what the linked article will show? --Light show (talk) 23:23, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
What I'm implying is that a lone link by itself tells serves no real function compared to a link with additional text (even in the form of lists). For the articles I noted, see Bradley Cooper#Works and awards as well as Emma Stone#Works and accolades. I'm not saying the sections in those specific articles are perfect, but they offer at least something more than a lone line. Snuggums (talk / edits) 01:07, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Jewish

Various biographers have stated Jack Nicholson's real name is Emmanuel and his father was Jewish: http://lukeford.net/blog/?p=2212 (2A00:23C4:638F:5000:EDE0:DB08:2754:77FB (talk) 14:52, 8 February 2017 (UTC))

MATH

I'm not sure which part of this is wrong. But in the "Early Life" section, it's stated that Jack Nicholson was born in April of 1937, to a mother born in 1918, who was 17 years old at the time of birth. Inasmuch as 1918+17=1935 that's not possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.6.197.146 (talk) 04:13, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

A user has just edited out the lead sentence saying he's Dril's avatar saying it's 'non relevant and non notable'. But there's a whole Wikipedia article about Dril, I don't understand how that's not notable? And how is it not relevant- it shows Jack's legacy in popular culture 92.10.13.209 (talk) 10:44, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

In the section about Nicholson personal life regarding Honey hollman it says that Nicholson “has not publicly acknowledged his paternity“. This is false because there is no evidence of his paternity hence why “supposedly” was added. I would change it to “Nicholson has not publicly acknowledged the child”. You can’t say his paternity when there is bo evidence of it. 2603:8000:1D43:31CC:FC76:4C3:4EB2:AB86 (talk) 02:40, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

By conventional English standards, it should say he's a "retired American actor and director" rather than he's an "American retired actor and director". Swiggleswaggle (talk) 22:41, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

There is no viable proof that Jack Nicholson supported Bernie Sanders in the 2020 election. Please remove it. Source cited is unverifiable. 2600:1014:A100:8A1:B008:BE19:ADA7:E9D3 (talk) 17:04, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
