In the 'Sexual misconduct accusations and lawsuit' section states 'In Busy Philipps' 2018 memoir, she puts forth an account in which Franco screamed at her before violently shoving her to the ground while on the set of Freaks and Geeks.[153]'

This is a physical assault accusation with no sexual component. The title and content of the linked article, "Busy Philipps Says James Franco Physically Assaulted Her on ‘Freaks and Geeks’ Set" confirms this. The quoted sentence should be removed from this Wiki or at least placed in a different section. 2605:E000:1309:D7AE:DCE8:C56B:AA72:EE38 (talk) 01:05, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies as this is a duplicate of the April 18th Protected edit request. Change "In Busy Philipps' 2018 memoir, she puts forth an account in which Franco screamed at her before violently shoving her to the ground while on the set of Freaks and Geeks.[153]" To new category or remove. It is not a Sexual misconduct accusation but is listed in the 'Sexual misconduct accusations' section. The title of the article, and content of the account, reference a physical altercation. It does not at any point allege Sexual misconduct or assault. 2605:E000:1309:D7AE:444A:2699:AE85:52BA (talk) 21:22, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The section regarding Sexual Misconduct allegations should be removed from "In the Media" category and given its own category, i.e. "Controversy" or "Allegations". While the topic discusses media appearances relating to the allegations, the allegations and trial are a legal matter and should be presented as such, instead of being categorised as "In the Media". Additionally, while wikipedia is archival and educational and should not be censored or altered based on moral quandaries or societal views, it is somewhat distasteful and disrespectful to outline serious sexual misconduct allegations directly after a section regarding his status as a "sex symbol" and listing as the "sexiest man living", and to include them under the same subcategory. The allegations should be immediately visible to readers by listing them in their own category, as one could easily gloss over the section without realising, and they should be treated seriously as legal matters and proper respect should be paid so they are not diminished by the preceding section. 2001:4479:1D00:AD00:ED17:6772:27A:580 (talk) 06:59, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: I agree that putting it in "in the media" makes little sense, but I disagree that it needs it's own section. Have a look at Kevin Spacey for instance - it seems that putting it in "personal life" makes a bit more sense, so that's what I've done. Volteer1 (talk) 07:39, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Charlyne Yi paragraph switches between pronouns, needs to be fixed[edit]

The paragraph at the end of the 'Sexual misconduct accusations and lawsuit' subsection appears to have been halfway re-edited. Charlyne Yi is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, but it switches back and forth between they/them and she/her. It makes the whole thing impossible to understand and is clearly a mistake. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:8481:B000:3859:55BE:1EA6:C7F0 (talk) 17:05, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Author misgendered Charlyne Yi by calling them an actress when they are actually non binary. Very sick and offensive. 82.12.58.78 (talk) 23:58, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done Not sure when Yi came out as non-binary, but the currently cited articles from when Yi spoke about Franco also described Yi as "actress". Looks like some re-editing of the paragraph in question was done in October but this term was missed. Hold your horses on being offended. Cannolis (talk) 00:29, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sexual misconduct accusations buried[edit]

Franco's career has been more or less ended by said accusations, and yet one has to dig into Personal Life to find them. It seems very likely that biased parties are contributing to or gatekeeping the editing of this page. The sexual misconduct allegations and closure of studio 4 should definitely be mentioned in the intro, and should probably have their own section. 2601:18A:C67F:630:CCEA:A172:E7F6:9BF4 (talk) 03:38, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, it looks like it, very strange Kanatonian (talk)
"allegations" there is a clue there I think. If he is ever "convicted" of anything that may then move to the lead. As it is, nothing has been proven so I think the coverage in the article is way more than is needed at this time. Plus, doubt his career is over, not by a long shot2A00:23C4:220:CF01:C00F:1588:E04D:A27B (talk) 12:18, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Franco is no longer in the directory of PhD students at Yale and the article should reflect this. Thanks!

Partly done: I removed that whole sentence, because the source said James Franco, star of "Milk" and "Spider-Man," has been accepted to Yale, his manager Miles Levy told the News, but it is not yet confirmed that he will be attending. Sexual misconduct accusations and lawsuit[edit]

"On December 23, 2021, Franco broke his silence about the accusations and explained his side of the story on an episode of the Jess Cagle Podcast."

Can someone please edit the section to make it more specific about what he said? He admitted to sleeping with the students of his acting school, and currently the section doesn't acknowledge that.189.217.95.155 (talk) 15:06, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

OP here: I'd also like to say that the use of the phrase "broke his silence" is pretty nauseating; a phrase that is typically reserved for victims speaking out against abuse, which James Franco most certainly is not 189.217.95.155 (talk) 18:16, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Real promotional content vibes[edit]

This page looks heavily worked over by promotional agents. It does not read like a NPOV entry about someone who is a highly controversial figure. In particular the section above the TOC is purely promotional. --The Cunctator (talk) 01:54, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You'll need to be more specific about the content you think should be changed to prompt any changes to the tone and/or content of the page. General Ization Talk 01:57, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, I was adding in more detail while you were replying -- The Cunctator (talk) 02:00, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a line on the sexual misconduct settlement but the whole entry needs a lot of work. --The Cunctator (talk) 02:05, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The section above the TOC is called the lead. Its purpose is to concisely summarize the reasons why the subject of the article is primarily notable. Franco is primarily notable for his work in film and television, and much less so for the controversies in which he has been involved in the last 10 years. Those are explained in the body of the article, but I would be surprised to see them in the lead. General Ization Talk 02:09, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The Cunctator: And you need to immediately revise the statement "which included having sex with his students", which you added to the lead. Franco has never conceded that this is the case, and the existence of a settlement does not mean that it did. Consequently your statement is both unsourced and defamatory. General Ization Talk 02:13, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip on terminology. Franco admitted to having sex with his students. Check the sources before you go ballistic, please. --The Cunctator (talk) 02:14, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. the claim that Franco's sexual misconduct is not particularly notable is, shall we say, not well sourced. It is mentioned in basically every story about Franco, for good reason, and has become a big part of his notability. --The Cunctator (talk) 02:20, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The way that his sexual misconduct is addressed in the article is perfectly in line with how we generally address these controversies. Look at Bill Cosby, Kevin Spacey, Louis CK and Harvey Weinstein. All of their articles talk about the subjects' career first before mentioning a summary of the allegations in a later paragraph in the lead and go into actual in depth details about the allegations in a section in the article.
