The result was: Topic is notable, article can be expanded. --B. Wolterding 08:45, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This review has been announced on the talk page of WikiProject Martial arts. Comments should be added on this page, below.

The article seems to be a clear deletion candidate at first glance, since it does not cite any sources. What made me wonder are the articles on Spanish and French Wikipedia, which at least try to cite some sources, although I'm not quite sure whether they are independent. There are even some videos about this guy, but they seem to be self-authored, more or less. Could you have a look and tell me whether he's a notable champion?

Your opinions are welcome; please add your comments below. --B. Wolterding 14:29, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Machado family is well known, I'll prod a guy who should know if he deserves his own or just a section in the family one. --Nate1481( t/c) 14:39, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There are two main branches of Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu in Brazil. The Gracies and the Machado brothers. Jean Jacques is perhaps the most well known of the Machado brothers, being a multiple winner of the Abu Dabhi contest (ADCC). I haven't even read the article yet, I came here because Nate called my attention to this. If the article is weak, and lacks references then just remove that and let it as a stub, in time it will evolve. There are plenty of information about Jean Jacques around, and he also published books, what make him notable per wikipedia standards. People seems to think that Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu comes from the Gracies alone, but the Machado brothers had a very important role in taking BJJ overseas. Loudenvier 17:57, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also you do not vote to delete an article because it is a weak article. This is a collaborative effort, and immediate feedback is not always the case. I will try to improve the article in the next week, since I do not have time right now. A good stub is better than an article without references... :-) Loudenvier 17:59, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can improve it at any time. The reason for the review was that it had been around without any sources for more than half a year... --B. Wolterding 18:42, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think it has become clear that secondary sources probably exist and can be added to the article. Just one last note regarding notability: It is not what he has published that makes him notable, but what others have published about him (see WP:INDY). This is the type of sources that should be added. --B. Wolterding 08:45, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
