Reliable?[edit]

There's some information in this article that needs stronger sourcing. Jethro New's military record as given in the article apparently comes from either family tradition or amateur genealogy, which are both prone to error. One source says that he served in the 2nd Delaware Regiment of the Continental Army, but there was only one Delaware Continental Regiment. That's a minor detail. More importantly, the claims that he served as an aid to General Washington at Valley Forge, was at Cowpens and Yorktown, and witnessed Andre's execution, sound almost too good to be true. It could all could be true, but better sources are needed. He was certainly not an official aide-de-camp to Washington—the list of those have been published. New Post-----------------------------------------------------

Family information for Jethro New is fatally flawed. True, he did marry Sarah Bowman, but she was not the daughter of George Bowman, rather the daughter of William Bowman, who happens to be my 4th great grandfather and a Revolutionary War Patriot. In fact Jethro New and William Bowman, his future father in law, fought together in Delaware. Sarah Bowman was born 5-25-1764, married Jethro New in 1781, and died 6-16-1813 in New Liberty, Owen Co., KY. Both Sarah and Jethro were b. in Kent Co., DE.

I should add the information currently posted in Wikipedia was compiled by William Anthony in the 1930-1940 era.

Because of the error in identifying the proper Sarah Bowman as wife of Jethro New, this researcher agrees with the posting of Kevin Myers, above, especially concerning the suspect illustrious war record. The published record of Jethro New's life needs to be removed, corrections made, then re-posted, for he was a man deserving of a biography on Wikipedia.
