I don't understand what's going on. Why isn't a more credible source noting his passing? According to our links his family has even supposedly confirmed his death, yet nobody is discussing this. WCBI website includes a video interviewing his father in the left scroll bar. http://www.wcbi.com/ I'm not sure what else you'd want. I used to run John's website - that's definitely his father Jim and as horrible as this is for me and those who knew him, he's really gone. This is silly...John's been out of the spotlight for a few years, so Hollywood isn't that interested...doesn't mean it didn't happen. That information can be obtained with an autopsy record request here: "Copies of records from January 1, 1957 through the present time may be obtained from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Hall of Justice, 850 Bryant Street - North Terrace, San Francisco, California 94103, telephone number (415) 553-1694. When requesting records from the San Francisco Public Library or the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, please provide the full name of the deceased person and if known the date of death and the Medical Examiner's Case Number. Please contact the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to find out the charge for copy work when requesting records. It can take up to a week to recover the records from storage." "After life" section[edit]

It seems that there has been an WP:edit war over the "after life" section. This content has been added and removed six times by a user who has not registered a Wikipedia account.
Perhaps this content belongs or perhaps not, but I fail to see how this content is related to the subject of the article. The person wanting to add this content should explain more here on the talk page. I am going to request temporary page protection in hope that the contributor will create a Wikipedia account and explain themselves here. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:22, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The content added by the disruptive IP-hopping editor has nothing to do with the subject of this article. That editor has been trying to insert non-encyclopedic garbage about health care court cases into more than 30 different unrelated articles for several years now. It's pretty self evident what he died of[edit]

If you want to know what John Dye died of, look up Chris Burrous. Same death. "Poppers" is what these people use. Meth is inside. Look closely at his pic here. That was the dead giveaway. I mean it coudn't be more obvious than that! Then I saw the city where he died "San Francisco". What exactly do you think he was doing there?! Again, look up Chris Burrous. Not that complicated. Let's just say that Johnny Boy wasn't the little angel he portrayed himself as. He concealed it well in the show, he wasn't concealing it in his candid pix. It leaked. Some reports claim that he was married to an "Elizabeth Updike" except she doesn't exist. Fabricated by him, her last name is a clue. And that should be your last cue to get a clue. "These people"? Really?
The death certificate does not support your theory. Poppers contain various alkyl nitrites, not methamphetamine. As far as his supposed marriage to Elizabeth Updike, that appears to be a reference to a John Dye who died in 1813.
This is Wikipedia. We deal in citable fact, not rumors. Your unsubstantiated theories are not welcome here, nor is your obvious homophobia.

Stop removing the death information![edit]

It appears fan(s) of John Dye keep editing the Death section to remove unflattering information about him and his family. But here are the facts: the family did initially report to multiple news organizations that he died of some kind of heart issue (their statements ranged from "heart attack" to "congestive heart failure".) Whether premature speculation on their part or an outright lie to avoid tarnishing his legacy, his death was ultimately determined to be a "drug related" death, specifically from "acute methamphetamine intoxication".

Dye's death certificate has been on Wikimedia Commons for years, and is readily verifiable with the California Department of Public Health—reference state file number 3052011005848. I'm sorry if you can't deal with the thought of John Dye being a drug user, but Wikipedia is not the place to try to sanitize someone's image. 2601:3CA:204:F860:E0FC:C616:379A:72C1 (talk) 08:13, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Does WP:BLPPRIMARY apply to dead individuals? If it does not, I agree that the death certificate on Commons should be cited, and the real cause of death included, if no secondary source on the cause of death can be found (and I can't find one). The article was previously likely referring to this or this, though unsourced in the article. But family aren't medical professionals, and the medical examiner doesn't give a cause of death here – later media then just picked up what the family claimed without fact-checking it. So we either do not list a cause of death, or we list the correct one using the primary source death certificate. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 16:23, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
