Article improvements needed[edit]

Given Gunther's prominence as author of Death Be Not Proud--still used in some thousands of classrooms annually, as far as I know--and the number of students who must use this article as a reference on Gunther every year, this article really deserves to be upgraded. Ken Cuthbertson's excellent biography of Gunther, Inside: The Biography of John Gunther (Bonus Books, 1992, ISBN 978-0929387703 ) means that plenty of well referenced material is easily available on Gunther.

Perhaps some ambitious high school class would like to take on the job of expanding and fleshing out the Wikipedia article on Gunther? Bhugh (talk) 18:10, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Procession date[edit]

63.3.19.129 edited the date of the book "Procession" and changed it from 1965 to 1933. All the references I can find list the book as 1965. The 1965 date fits with the contents of the book as well--and the 1933 date doesn't. (See for instance the Amazon.com listing, http://www.amazon.com/Procession-John-Gunther/dp/B000FFHKH6/sr=8-7/qid=1168895128/ref=sr_1_7/002-6845439-4765606?ie=UTF8&s=books ).

So for now I have changed the date back to 1965. Before changing it to anything else, please indicate a source for the change.

What about G.E.R. Gedye?[edit]

John Gunther befriended George Eric Rowe Gedye in Vienna. Gedye too was one of the legendary foreign corespondents of the interwar years and he has a solid article in the German WP now. Shouldn't he get one here too? Robert Schediwy (Vienna) 86.32.128.5 (talk) 17:44, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea--I added the article George Eric Rowe Gedye (directly translated over from the German Wikipedia article here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Eric_Rowe_Gedye). It could use some help--added citations, etc--so if you have some time to work on it, that would be much appreciated.

I also added a reference to Gedye (and some other contemporary journalists in Vienna) in the Gunther article, with a link to their respective Wikipedia articles. Bhugh (talk) 01:12, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also FYI I just created the category Viennese interwar correspondents to gather all of these journalists together in one wikipedia category. I also recently created an article on Marcel Fodor and Robert Best (journalist). The Fodor article is pretty fleshed out but the Best article is just a stub. Hitler[edit]

"In 1936, after seeing the paintings Hitler submitted to the Vienna art academy, John Gunther wrote "They are prosaic, utterly devoid of rhythm, color, feeling, or spiritual imagination. They are architect's sketches painful and precise draftsmanship; nothing more.
