EDUCATION DISCREPANCY

When reading the sentence at the end of this paragraph, it states that John Jay graduated in 1764 and began working for Benjamin Kissam, but wikipedia states that Kissam was not born until 1818? I have read the source and it confirms the same. Can someone help clear this up? E. Douglas Statzer (talk) 18:43, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Rewording of intro:

This sentence from the intro makes little sense without a bit of context: "The new law that he signed into existence brought about the emancipation of all slaves there before his death in 1829. I've clarified it like this: "The new law, a gradual emancipation law, that he signed into existence brought about the emancipation of all slaves there before his death in 1829." I put in that clarifying clause and tinkered with this and the preceding sentence for clarity. —MiguelMunoz (talk) 23:30, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Four cases?

"The Court heard only four cases during Jay's Chief Justiceship." This is incorrect. I have in front of me volume 3 of the U.S. Reports, which has six cases heard by the Court in 1794 and 1795 alone (before Jay resigned as Chief Justice July 1, 1795). The cases are Georgia v. Brailsford, 3 US 1; The Betsey (Glass v. The Sloop Betsy), 3 US 5; U.S. v. Hamilton, 3 U.S. 14, Bingham v. Cabot, 3 U.S. 15; U.S. v. Lawrence, 3 U.S. 35; Penhallow v. Doane, 3 U.S. 44. John Jay
John Jay (1745–1829), an American statesman and judge, in a portrait by Gilbert Stuart. Born into a wealthy family of merchants, he became a lawyer and organized opposition to British rule. During the American Revolution, Jay was an ambassador and Secretary of Foreign Affairs. Later he contributed to the Federalist Papers supporting ratification of the new U.S. Constitution; when it was adopted in 1789, he was made the first Chief Justice, a position he held until elected governor of New York in 1795. He then helped begin the process that emancipated all of the state's slaves.Painting: Gilbert Stuart

Remove War of 1812 details; irrelevant to John Jay Biography

The current last paragraph under Jay Treaty, discussing the War of 1812, does not belong in this article. This article is about John Jay, who was retired and had no role in the War of 1812. That the Jay Treaty of 1795 did not resolve the impressment issue is clearly stated in the preceding paragraph. The desire of War Hawks to acquire land in Canada 17 years later is irrelevant to the Jay Treaty, which did not concern itself with land boundaries. I have edited the previous paragraph to indicate that the impressment issue would later be one cause of the War of 1812 and removed this paragraph.Contributor tom (talk) 22:18, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Where is Information about his Children?

How come there is no real information about his children? Did all of them make it to adulthood? Did any die in childbirth? There is virtually nothing about his family at all, other than a list of children (which may be incomplete) in the infobox at the side of the article. Does anyone have more information?
