John Reilly (actor, born 1934) → John Reilly (soap opera actor) – Year of birth is not preferable to this more natural modifier. According to WP:NCPDAB, failing a practical single qualifier, the disambiguator can be expanded with a second qualifier ... Years of birth and death are not normally used as disambiguators, as readers are more likely to be seeking this information than to already know it. Most of his obituaries introduce him as something like "veteran soap opera actor" or "longtime soap star". (I would alternatively support moving back to John Reilly (actor); the page was boldly moved to the current title in 2021, ostensibly to disambiguate from John C. Oppose reverting back. John C. Reilly gets 10x as many views as this article does, and of course middle initials can reasonably be omitted with referring to people. we very much do use years of birth as disambiguators: almost entirely for athletes though. It's not nearly so common for US actors, and there's an easy alternative which WP:NCPDAB, quoted above, says is preferred. Hameltion (talk | contribs) 17:33, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but this is utter rubbish. We use YOB disambiguators on many articles. Did John Reilly only appear in soap operas? No, he most certainly did not, so the proposed disambiguator is a terrible one. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:49, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Almost all sources cited describe him specifically as a soap opera actor even if he was also in other things, e.g., Veteran soap opera actor John Reilly, who also provided the voice for Clint Barton/Hawkeye ... in CBR.
