Table

Help me with the table! Lotsofissues 12:02, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The data for the other campus' should either be separated or organized differently. The template used looks awful with all those other JWU locations.

How did the image just disappear? Image page completely disappeared. Lotsofissues 08:07, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Removed stub template. There's enough information in the article, I don't think we need to classify it as a stub. Jerry G. Sweeton Jr. 12:32, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Jwu logo.gif

Image:Jwu logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:57, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Why is the logo being used? Because its the logo of the school! I think thats a good enough reason alone. Don't you?

Absorption of "Rhode Island School of Electronics"

The technology division of JWU was once the Rhode Island School of Electronics (known just prior to being sold/donated (I'm not sure which) to JWU as "Rhode Island School of Electronics: Institute of Technology" and "Rhode Island Institute of Technology"). I was a RISE student in 1986 who went through the transition to J&W grad in 1988.

J&W was "Johnson & Wales College" until just after the RISE purchase, when it became "Johnson & Wales University".

I'd like to expound on this some more, but wanted to pass it by everyone...

" This makes this school one of the best of its kind. Just look at Emeril Lagasse, a food network star, who adds music to what he learned at JWU!" NPOV - Stricken. 67.221.92.135 (talk) 15:24, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Formatting the Notable Alumni Section

Right now we have a bullet list that's not sorted in any particular order, and some of our most notable alumni are towards the middle or bottom of the list. Ideally we could sort the list by notability, but that's so subjective that it'd turn into an edit war. I suggest we sort the list by graduation year. Any objection? Degree List

I've been trying to find a way to list the different programs and degrees offered at JWU without taking up an inordinate amount of space. I've come up with this table. Can anyone suggest any changes to the layout or formatting, or perhaps more information we could add to it? I'll drop it in the academics section next week if there's no objection. location of culinary school

The article says "a subsidiary campus housing JWU's culinary and graduate programs (called Harborside and opened in 1985) in Cranston, Rhode Island;" but also "The Providence Downcity campus is home to the College of Business, the Hospitality College, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the School of Technology.[9] This campus is home to several additional academic units: the Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School and the College of Culinary Arts."

The second seems to imply that the culinary school is at Downcity.

Also the latter paragraph is confusing in other ways- not clear whether it's meant to just be talking about Downcity, Rhode Island altogether, or JWU altogether.

Request Edit 11.1.19

Connected contributor template

Some proposed changes

Thank you for considering this request. I am attempting to clean up the entire Johnson & Wales page which first came to light with many broken links that were coming into the www.jwu.edu domain. The page was not kept up to date for many years and I would like to correct information and add to the timeline of the University.

Extended content

Information to be added or removed: Requesting replacement of: Johnson & Wales University (JWU) is a private career-oriented university with its main campus in Providence, Rhode Island. Founded as a business school in 1914 by Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales, JWU currently has 12,930[3] students enrolled in business, arts & sciences, culinary arts, education, engineering, equine management, hospitality, and engineering technology programs across its campuses.[4] The university is accredited by the New England Commission on Higher Education.

and replacing with:

Johnson & Wales University (JWU) is a private university that focuses on experiential education opportunities for students. As of the 2017-2018 academic year, 85% of bachelor's degree candidates had completed at least one internship.[1] Graduate success is demonstrated through the 96.8% <a href="https://www.naceweb.org/job-market/graduate-outcomes/first-destination/first-destination-standards-and-protocols-key-questions-and-answers/"career outcomes rate</a>.

JWU has campuses in Providence, North Miami, Denver, and Charlotte, each with distinct course offerings. As one of the first colleges founded by women, Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales, a progressive and pragmatic approach to learning has defined the education model since 1914.

Johnson & Wales University (JWU), is a private, nonprofit <a href="https://www.neche.org/" NECHE-accredited</a> institution with 12,930 students from over 100 countries.[2] JWU offers 80+ undergraduate, graduate, online, continuing education and accelerated programs in arts & sciences, business, culinary arts, hospitality, health and wellness, technology, and education; more than 105,000 alumni. [3]

Explanation of issue: This brings the description of the university up to date with current data, and removes supporting references to an old article appearing on the Internet Archive.

  Edit request declined

  • The main claims made in the edit request proposal — and whether or not those claims differ from the current standing version of the article's claims — are shown below:
Main claims Edit-requested change?
#1: Private university Green tickY Same info - No change
#2: Founded 1914 Green tickY Same info - No change
#3: Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales Green tickY Same info - No change
#4: 12,930 students enrolled Green tickY Same info - No change
#5: NECHE-accredited Green tickY Same info - No change
  • The above claims represent the core information necessary to the article's lead section. As you can see, none of the claims being proposed in the edit request correct or alter information already established in the lead section.
  • The only difference between the current standing version of the article and the proposed changes is that the proposed text introduces promotional wording and statistics regarding the University's "graduate success" rate, information which ought not to be used in the article.
  • Additionally, the reason offered for changing the references as being that the older references use archived links is not an adequate reason for making the change. An archived link in many ways provides a more stable type of reference than a source using an active URL link would.

Thank you for your response. While I understand that there might be reasons for a web archive reference, it fails to account for new Health and Wellness programs that have been added to the University when that source appeared in 2000. These Health and Wellness programs are integral to the university. Also, the Career Outcomes Rate is a very valuable calculation for higher ed institutions, determined by a national body. Do you think that is better under the academics heading of the article? Jomags123 (talk) 20:42, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to replace the following sentence in the introductory paragraph so that it better reflects the program offerings at the university, rather than the outdated list currently represented.

Replace:

JWU currently has 12,930[3] students enrolled in business, arts & sciences, culinary arts, education, engineering, equine management, hospitality, and engineering technology programs across its campuses.[4]

With:

JWU currently has 12,930[3} graduate, undergraduate, and online students enrolled in arts & sciences, business, culinary arts, engineering & design, food systems, health & wellness, hospitality, media communications, travel & tourism, and sustainable practices across its campuses.

Type of university

Article now says "Private", but university's website states "In 1963 the State of Rhode Island granted a charter that authorized the university to operate as a nonprofit, degree-granting institution of higher learning and to award associate degrees in accounting, business administration, court reporting and secretarial sciences." - https://www.jwu.edu/about-jwu/history.html

So shouldn't it say not for profit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjmarcus (talkcontribs) 19:06, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

A University can be private and nonprofit (and most non-public universities are). Looking at the Ivies and a few other examples, I find that only Cornell University mentions its non-profit status, and that's not in the lede. It looks like you (or someone) added that fact in the history section, and that seems appropriate to me. I don't think it belongs in the lede, if that's what you were asking. - Kzirkel (talk) 14:51, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
