titles removed[edit]

I removed these titles from the article: Making Angels and The Scarapist. I don't see these titles at IMDB, and I'm assuming the are innacurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SCFilm29 (talkcontribs) 19:27, 20 April 2009 (UTC) [reply]

Confirmed sock puppet, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:SCFilm29#Blocked_indefinitely. Coronerreport (talk) 10:19, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Titles Re-added[edit]

I re-added these titles, both of which appear on IMDb and IMDbPro. Coronerreport (talk) 03:06, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Year 2010 has passed. Neither of these movies made. Removed them. 130.94.91.170 (talk) 22:58, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All you need do is revise the dates. Title removal is not supported. Coronerreport (talk) 07:53, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
IMDB is not a reliable source (RS), per Wikipedia policy.Parkwells (talk) 12:57, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography[edit]

Dash has producer credits not included in the filmography section of the article. Any thoughts on inclusion? Thanks all for your input, Coronerreport (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:08, 2 March 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Unsourced?[edit]

I'm pretty confused by User:Darkness Shines recent edit, deleting such a large amount of content that is, clearly, sourced. I suggest reverting to the previous text, as opposed to wiping out nearly an entire section of an article, and discussing the content details here. Coronerreport (talk) 22:38, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Needs reduction re: Daughters[edit]

While I agree Daughters of the Dust was a major achievement, there is a separate WP article on the film. Too much about the film, production, etc. is included here for an article that is supposed to be about Dash; it makes it unbalanced, and it will be difficult to keep the two articles reconciled. The film article should be the major one. Generally only a paragraph or so should be included here about each of her notable works, as is usually the case with other directors. Some editor may want to make a table to show her films.Parkwells (talk) 14:36, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright vio[edit]

Editors need to paraphrase material from sources, not copy it verbatim. If they do use exact phrasing, the material must appear in quotes and be given attribution to the author. Much of the content in this article, particularly on the film "Daughters of the Dust" sounds very much as if it's been lifted verbatim from sources, although quotes are not used. This is a copyright violation. Lengthy material should not be quoted but paraphrased and sourced.Parkwells (talk) 14:36, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have found wholesale copying of Michael Dembrow's material on the movie (from his spot at Portland Community College), prepared for the Cascade African Film Festival, and will try to correct it. As is, it is a copyright violation.Parkwells (talk) 15:25, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Four Women (1978 film)[edit]

An 8-minute film without stating notability can be mentioned on Dash's page. Classicwiki (talk) (ping me please) 01:37, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am considering creating a page dedicated to Julie Dash's shorts. They are frequently screened, restored, and taught in universities. Thoughts? Uhurualison (talk) 19:31, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Merge - there's no indication of notability for the 8-minute film, it can be listed in the Julie Dash article. PKT(alk) 17:33, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Editing for style and citations[edit]

I noticed there's been a "style and citation" template on this article since 2011(!). I'm going through and editing to try and clean this article up and do justice to Dash's importance in film history. If I take out paragraphs, I hope I don't cause hurt feelings. There are several instances of what I would term academic writing, based on blog posts, that are subjective viewpoints and more in keeping with film analysis and reviews. I would like to take out subjective writing in regards to Dash's films whenever possible, especially if a citation can be noted of historical and critical record instead. Blog posts are useful but are not considered reliable sources for Wikipedia. I'm going to go through the citations to format them throughout and add new ones, of which there are plenty. Thanks for your understanding. I recognize the importance of Dash and her work and she deserves the best article in proper encyclopedic style. --Utilizer (talk) 21:35, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

There are a couple of links that don't seem to relate to Julie Dash. I've removed them until further notice. They are: Rockefeller Foundation Fellows 2007, United States Artists arts advocacy organization.. --Utilizer (talk) 20:40, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
