Date question

[edit]

When was the Chennai statue of Kannagi replaced? Was it 6 March 2006, or was it 3 June 2006? The article is unclear. --Cromwellt|talk 16:05, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kannaki as an Hindu legend

[edit]

As far as I know Kannaki was a Buddhist and not an Hindu. Can someone justify the Hinduism tag to this entry? Thanks. Wiki San Roze talk 14:23, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about the Kannaki being a Buddhist legend, but all interested parties should try to look up the Kodungalloor Temple in Kerala. There is a reported sarcophagus of Kannaki housed in one of the ante-chambers there. There is also an interesting connection between Kannaki and the "Bharani" pattu tradition of Kodungalloor.

Politics

[edit]

I suspect a bias in the politics section. The section is insufficiently referenced for its claims.--Challengethelimits (talk) 02:20, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since this article is short and a much detailed section on her worship is needed for the completeness of the article, I propose merger. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:04, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Closing merge given absence of support over 2.5 years; it is common to have a summary/main. Klbrain (talk) 23:56, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Omission

[edit]

In googling Kannagi, I discovered mentions of her removing a breast and cursing Madurai to burn down.

With her own hand she tore the left breast from her body.

Thrice she surveyed the city of Madurai, calling her curse in bitter agony.

Then she flung her fair breast on the scented street. ...

[1] This does not appear in the article. Why not? --Auric talk 12:05, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It probably hasn't been included because:
  1. No one has been bold enough to do so
  2. It is more appropriately covered at Kannaki Amman#The plaintive Life of a Woman turned goddess or Silappatikaram. Klbrain (talk) 00:05, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Kannaki Amman into Kannagi

[edit]

Kannaki Amman pertains to worship of Kannagi as a goddess. There is an overlap in the articles in terms of Legend section (Kannagi) and Origins section of Kannaki Amman. Only the Veneration section of Kannaki Amman is distinct, which is concise enough to be incorporated in Kannagi article itself. Redtigerxyz Talk 06:30, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
