Who was Karl Diebitsch?[edit]

The page history shows an extensive previous version as created by User:Nicholasweed and referenced to a single published source, and a massive reduction of content on June 18, 2009 due to copyright violation issues. This (unsourced) line has been repeated elsewhere:

  • The all-black uniform of the Nazi Schutzstaffel, a paramilitary force from 1932 until 1945, was designed by SS-Oberführer Prof. Dr. Karl Diebitsch and graphic designer Walter Heck.

I don't find Karl Diebitsch in the German Wikipedia, though he's described (previously) as being:

  • an SS-Oberführer
    • according to Author Peter Padfield, Diebitsch was an SS Sturmbannfuhrer but I recall he was promoted later to SS Oberfuhrer, as well.Kierzek (talk) 12:46, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • a professor (where?)
  • holder of an academic doctoral degree (in what? from what institution?)
    • It was an honorary title given to Diebitsch; a request by Himmler to Hitler.Kierzek (talk) 12:46, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Investigating the matter of who designed the SS uniform, I'm disinclined to abandon the possibility of Karl Diebitsch, but what verifiable information actually exists on this point? The initial version of this page cited only the work, Collecting Edged Weapons of the Third Reich, Volume 6, 1993, by Thomas M. Johnson, an award-winning author about (and commercial dealer of) militaria. The previous content about Diebitsch's association with Allach porcelain (another collectible prominently featured in the Johnson catalog) has also been dropped; all this attests (or doesn't) to the subject's notability. -- Deborahjay (talk) 09:17, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • HERE is the cite as to the black SS uniform info. mentioned above. Lumsden, Robin. A Collector's Guide To: The Allgemeine - SS, Ian Allan Publishing, Inc. 2001, p 53.Kierzek (talk) 00:11, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Further: I've approached the page's original editor to provide specific citations from the book and possibly expand content. -- Deborahjay (talk) 09:56, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here is another book crediting Diebitsch and Heck. Hope it adds something! Fribbler (talk) 15:29, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
