Nickname[edit]

The article states... His nickname is "Silk." This was given to him by Bryce Harper, when they played against each other in Las Vegas at age 9. It may have been back then but it didn't catch on. I've never heard him called "Silk" by anyone...broadcaster, player, manager, fan. Not sure this nickname is anything more than unimportant trivia. Buster Seven Talk

Rookie of the Year Awards[edit]

With regard to the current edit war regarding the Info box awards, I am of the opinion that the Rookie of the YEAR awards do not replace or reduce the importance of the Rookie of the MONTHS award. The Year award is given in addition to the six Month awards. One does not negate the other. The fact that the player received a monthly award is worth noting for the readers information. And, with Bryant, he received two Month awards which, in itself, is notable beyond the Year award. Is their a general protocol for previous winners of both awards? Edit warring is not the answer!. @Buster7: I agree with your points outlines above. In reviewing the Monthly ROY award page only 23 players, or about 13% of award recipients, have earned the Monthly ROY award more than once since it was established in 2001. In my judgement, Bryant being 1 of 23 total players to have earned the award more than once is indeed notable. It also appears as thought there is a general correlation between those who have earned the award more than once and earning more notable awards later in their career. While I don't notice a general protocol for this award, I believe it is noteable that Bryant has earned these two awards up to this point in his career.
It also is worth noting here on the talk page, as I saw this referenced in the "View History" section: Wikipedia is not a crystal ball! Cubbie15fan (talk) 22:22 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Article formatting[edit]

@Yankees10: I'd like to hash out formatting on the article. I thought it'd be helpful for readers to understand when events in Bryant's career took place on a macro-level. Also was trying to follow what seems to be standard formatting style for baseball players. Why do you think the years are unnecessary in the section titles? It's definitely not standard formatting. There's numerous different styles used in player articles. I've never found the dates to be necessary in the titles since that is what the infobox is for and I find it to be redundant.--Yankees10 18:12, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2016 season[edit]

Did Bryant play the 2016 season? Of course! He is having a breakout sophomore season with his versatility and hitting as well as fielding many positions...its just thgat there is no mention of it in the article. I'll start to construct some stuff later today. He leads the majors in HRs and is 4th in RBI's. Thats worth mentioning, don-cha-think? Buster Seven Talk 13:21, 3 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And that was last year’s news.”"

This article: "As of June 2016, the grievance had yet to reach a hearing. About the grievance Bryant has said, "For me it’s just important to continue to go out there and do what I do, so that I can help the team in any way possible in where we’re at today,” Bryant added, “It’s just important for me to not even worry about it right now because it takes away from so much of what we have going this year. And that was last year’s news."

Players position[edit]

This diff adds "First baseman" to Bryant's infobox. The same has happened at Rizzo's page for when he changes mitts and is considered a "second baseman" when he is not really playing second base but is crowding the plate. I just wonder how necessary these infobox changes really are. Willson Contreras has played first, third and two outfield positions in addition to catching. Was Travis Wood listed as an outfielder last year when he played left field? Just sayin'.... Buster Seven Talk 17:11, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's excessive and not necessary. Bryant isn't a "first baseman" if he plays there once. Bryan Mitchell played an inning of first base, but he's still a pitcher. Freddie Freeman is talking about playing third base, and people jumped in to make that edit, even though he hasn't done it yet, and may not at all. Bryant[edit]

@Muboshgu: continuing our discussion from WikiProject Baseball in really reading this article again it's definitely much much much closer to what I'm talking about than the other examples I listed. I used it as an example because I remember when it was under review. In terms quotes here are a few from and about Bryant which I think are compelling at some level and could be incorporated (sometimes with a shorter version):

  • "He’s 10 times the person that he is a player. Kris probably would’ve made a million bucks being a dentist. He would’ve found a way to do that by 25. He doesn’t need baseball." [4]
  • "“This game is all about ‘What have you done for me lately?’” Bryant said. “And boy did I get to experience that last year" [5]
  • "It's all downhill from here," Bryant joked on a conference call after learning of his honor. "This year has certainly been one of the best years of my life, winning the World Series, and now this is just icing on the cake." ""I feel like good guys finish first, so being humble and being a good role model for kids, that's something I strive for more than putting up good numbers or any of my individual goals," Bryant said. "I don't want to be that person people look at and say is too cocky. I just want to do my job, put smiles on people's faces and win a lot of games along the way.
