Tourism

• The New York Times' Ondine Cohane said in 2016: "with a plethora of gay bars and clubs (and a four-year-old Gay Pride event), the city has the deserved reputation for being one of the most L.G.B.T.-friendly destinations south of the border". In 2023, Lola Mendez of The Times said one fifth of the city's visitors are "members of the LGBT community, according to official tourism figures. Gay travellers have been visiting Puerto Vallarta since the 1960s and have dubbed Zona Romantica, where Vallarta Pride is held, the 'gayborhood'." The Yucatán Times called the city "super-gay" in 2019.
  • Any way we can say more of this in our voice than in quotes? This article is chock-full of quotes. Too many, for my taste, though some are merited.
  • MOS:'S: that should be Times's.
  • Consider conforming the grammar/typography in the quotes to the article with things like missing accents, abbreviations without periods, etc. MOS:CONFORM.

Sourcing and spot checks

It is very strange to look at a Mexico article in which there are nearly zero Spanish-language sources. Certainly there is something in Spanish that can enrich this article and provide possibly a less touristy coverage aspect. Your reviewer is a fluent Spanish speaker, if you have any questions. I try to take on a higher share of GANs from the Spanish-speaking world.

• 19: Daily Xtra: Zona Romantica. Almost all the gay businesses are located in the south end of the city in the historic district of Emiliano Zapata. ... El Centro. This is the city's downtown, located just north of the Zona Romantica on the other side of the Cuale River. Although some refer to the Zona Romantica as the "Old Town," El Centro is older. This side of the river now has only two gay bars and just one gay men-only B&B... Y
• 30: PinkNews: Round the corner you have Club Paco Paco, also known as Paco’s Ranch, which many locals would tell you no gay night in Vallarta is complete without. Y
• 40: Hmm, I'm unsure. Even though the ref content is backed by the source content, GayPV seems to have a lot of business listings, and we have 25 references to it. That's a lot. That makes me quite hesitant in general.

• • I would very much welcome the addition of Spanish-language sources, but as someone who does not speak Spanish, I would encourage others to improve the article appropriately. You'll notice I've shared some Spanish-language sources here.     • It's a solid foundation, and you've made some effort to make it more in encyclopedic voice, but I still feel like there are too many business entries being used as sources. That's just a hangup for me. I think this can be a GA with fewer of those references, but right now we have 25 references to GayPV when only a handful could probably stand. That will require some reworking of this article tonally to be less about "this business does X, this bar has Y, and this spa offers Z" in places. Media

The article is drenched in photos. There are 17 of them, all but one from the nominator, and though all are appropriately licensed, I am not sure if the pictures of publications are in actuality reproductions of copyrighted works. I wonder if the article needs all of these images given, say, MOS:SANDWICH.

• If you're going to do alt text, there are some cases where the alt text must provide context equivalent to what a sighted person does. The last image does not: Photograph of a sign on a pole I can read the sign. A screen reader user can't.
  • I've removed four images, including the two of magazine covers. I do not see any sandwiched text but please let me know if you think any other images should be removed.
