Laureates and non-laureates[edit]

This is in response to the reversion by User:JB Hoang Tam of my removal of the "Members of laureate organizations" sections that that editor added to this and several other Wikipedia "List of X Nobel laureates and nominees" articles. Wikipedia isn't a place for assigning shared or reflected glory to people. These sections are out of place.

These articles are lists of laureates from the respective countries. The League of Red Cross Societies won an award. That doesn't make it appropriate to go to the Laureate list article for every country in which the League of Red Cross Societies has a chapter to list that chapter as though that chapter had been recognized by the Nobel committee. Likewise, the International Panel on Climate Change won an award; that doesn't mean every employee of that panel should be listed personally in the Laureate list for that employee's country.

JB Hoang Tam's edit summary reads "These Brazilian individuals and Brazilian-based organizations contributed largely to make the laureate organizations win the Nobel Peace Prize." This attribution by that editor, equating their role with being laureates themselves, is exactly that, that editor's attribution. Who even knows if anyone on the Nobel committees were even specifically aware of the Brazilian branch (or the Japanese branch, etc.) or any of the specific individuals listed when they were considering the award to the international organizations? Their inclusion here is at best impermissible original research. It's, frankly, misleading, even false.

These organizations and individual are not laureates (or nominees) and don't belong in these articles. Largoplazo (talk) 10:15, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've placed a notification of this discussion at the three other lists involved in this dispute, as well as at Wikipedia:No original research/Noticeboard#Lists of members of Nobel-winning organizations. Largoplazo (talk) 10:48, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
