WaPo Endorsement Tracker

[edit]

Washington Post released a live endorsement tracker of all the congressional Democrats as well as Gubernatorial Democrats that are backing Harris

State delegate endorsements

[edit]

Many Democratic elected officials, current and former, are delegates to the DNC. Since Al Gore is a delegate to the DNC this year, and Tennessee's delegates unanimously voted to back Harris, should he be counted as an endorsement on this page? LV 03:09, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No. Bohbye (talk) 03:18, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of Kamala Harris 2024 presidential campaign endorsementsList of Kamala Harris 2024 presidential campaign primary endorsements – Following the format followed in List of Donald Trump 2024 presidential campaign primary endorsements and the fact that she has still be declared as the primary democratic party candidate, until then, the article should be renamed to primary endorsement. Xoocit (talk) 08:05, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was going off this from the Guardian, which describes a primary as an (unlikely) possibility - presumably this regards the blitz primary option. But at any rate, that's not happening unless we know it's happening. U-Mos (talk) 14:57, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Speedy Close Primaries are over at the Democratic Party, and those are definitely for her presidential campaign. Bohbye (talk) 14:33, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Speedy Close You're mistaken, she's not participating in a primary. HadesTTW (he/him • talk) 14:54, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose She's not participating in a primary ~Politicdude (About me, talk, contribs) 16:17, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand this is a list of endorsements. Does it really need all the head shots though? The names and relevant offices seem like they would be sufficient. 168.91.231.79 (talk) 17:54, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I was just coming to start a similar discussion. I don't think the photos are necessary at all and would support removal. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:08, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which portraits are included and which are not. I also support removal. Flames675 (talk) 18:35, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the headshots are needed either. I also support removal.David O. Johnson (talk) 18:38, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hafizh Iskandar please read this thread before re-adding headshots. Thank you! Flames675 (talk) 03:07, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see List of Donald Trump 2024 presidential campaign endorsements and List of Joe Biden 2024 presidential campaign primary endorsements Hafizh Iskandar (talk) 03:14, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Consensus here is not to include images. Do not keep adding them because other pages have images. Stop it. Bohbye (talk) 03:19, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done The images have been removed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:44, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Let's do what we did for the Biden and Trump pages and put notable headshots on the side ~Politicdude (About me, talk, contribs) 19:47, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to the editor that removed them, and it should stay that way. Bohbye (talk) 20:49, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I see a few red links under Political organizations.

Should non-notable organizations be included? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:31, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If they are red links usually they are not notable. I would say to be removed. Bohbye (talk) 20:46, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Time to categorize Notable individuals

[edit]

It becoming a mess, and should be categorized to activists, entertainers, international, etc. Bohbye (talk) 23:03, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If the list gets super long, we should consider how things are organized for Hillary Clinton:
So:
Not suggesting any forks now, just noting a precedent (or suggesting possible subsection headings for this list). ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:12, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For now it will be enough to use the same naming but within this list without a fork. Bohbye (talk) 01:25, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely do not split the article at any point. Four separate, mostly social media-referenced articles (see WP:PSTS, WP:SOCIALMEDIA) for one candidate's endorsements is the most blatant example of WP:TRIVIA imaginable. U-Mos (talk) 10:11, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We've been avoiding a split, but this list is approaching has exceeded 500 citations... ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:08, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update: 600 citations ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:53, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No need to split. DT page has almost 900 citations and it loads fine. i just think this page needs a major diet when it comes to text for each person endorsing. DT page is well managed as an example. Bohbye (talk) 00:59, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Texas House Dems

[edit]

The citation is broken. Olive11224 (talk) 01:56, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add columns to endorsement sub-areas

[edit]

Some parts of the list are way too long right now. I suggest adding columns to narrow down the amount of space each sub-section uses. An example being the U.S. Representatives section (200 something is a lot). What do y’all think? Mattsyman (talk) 19:54, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Confused about citation practices

[edit]

Why is Twitter dispreferred as a source for someone's endorsement? The other sources given mostly either cite Twitter in turn, or don't cite anything at all. Olive11224 (talk) 20:31, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! It's mostly to follow WP:Endorse criteria for citation sources. You can read more about it in that article! Flames675 (talk) 20:29, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t understand this. It gives an unjustified veneer of credibility.
Olive11224 (talk) 03:51, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bernie Sanders?

[edit]

Per the cited source, Sanders has said that he's "sure that [he] will" endorse Harris, but still has his reservations. Should this still be counted as an endorsement? Loytra (talk) 08:51, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly not, especially as the source was misattributed in the citation. Removed now. U-Mos (talk) 10:48, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Someone just added him again, when he clearly said he is not endorsing just yet. He is campaigning for her but still not endorsing. Stop adding false info. Bohbye (talk) 01:56, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

State Representative and Senator endorsements

[edit]

Should we sort the state representative and state senator endorsements by state? I think it'd be more easier to navigate instead of having state reps from Michigan, Tennessee, and Ohio all shuffled into one list. HurricaneKappa (talk) 03:16, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures

[edit]

The previous discussion on this topic resulted in removal of headshots despite minimal participation. Every other endorsement article for 2024 and previous elections contains a limited amount of headshots of the most notable figures along the margins of the article, and there is no reason to not include them for this article as well. Providing headshots also gives viewers a visual snapshot of the endorsements that is much easier to read than the lengthy text list. We should probably come up with some sort of consensus on which individuals should receive headshots, but I see no reason to exclude them and am proposing that they are re-added. ~Politicdude (About me, talk, contribs) 16:20, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In my experience, adding headshots to these sections takes up too much space, especially on mobile, and often results in scrolling several times before actually getting to the content. I don't see how making any sort of arbitrary cutoff is useful or necessary as it inadvertently creates a bias to the reader that only those who have their headshots are actually important, leading to questions as to why we have the others listed. Also I don't see any agreement happening to make a cutoff possible in the first place, as I don't know what would possibly be a good enough line to cut it off that wouldn't involve adding them all anyways.
Furthermore, I don't at all agree to these continuity between pages arguments. Yes, obviously we want to have somewhat the same format, but every page is different and attempting to fit every single endorsement page into the same mold is unrealistic and absurd. Going off of your argument, however, I don't see a mutual cutoff point between other endorsement pages or even what sections they do include pictures for, so we wouldn't be able to judge one based off of them, further adding to the differences between them. Flames675 (talk) 16:36, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On this page consensus is not to include them. Not all pages are the same as others. Once you add pictures there is no clear limit and the entire page becomes impossible to read especially on mobile. Bohbye (talk) 01:53, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
