Needs Work[edit]

Looks like this article needs some work, blank character spaces. I'll be happy to adjust everything accordingly. AlexanderLD (talk) 02:10, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Beluga as Anton's Son?[edit]

I could have sworn that since the game said Katia was Mr. Beluga's daughter, that would make Mr. Beluga Anton's son. But maybe I'm wrong. Can someone clear that up with me? Superk1a (talk) 21:35, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just finished the game, and it says that Katia is the daughter of Mr. Anderson, who is a guy with blue hair and a beard who wears a bowler hat and lives in Dropstone. I don't recall the game saying that Katia is Mr. Beluga's daughter, but if it did, it was an error.... - carolyn81 (usertalk) 07:00, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Katia is the daughter of Mr. Anderson, and is neither the daughter nor granddaughter of Mr. Beluga. Mr. Beluga is Anton's brother (whose real name, by the way, is Friedrich Herzen), and the diary in game as well as the museum detail this relationship a bit.Hammerbrodude (talk) 03:16, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mr.Beluga is Anton's brother. Anton and Sophia had Katia's mother (unbeknownst to Anton). Katia's mother married Mr.Anderson, and those two had Katia. Therefore Mr.Beluga is Katia's grandfather's brother. No offense, but just pay attention to the game.

Importance[edit]

The article describes itself as "a list of important and recurring characters throughout the Professor Layton series." However, I'm not entirely sure that rings true. I feel the article may be better off if we eliminate some of the characters who are not truly relevant to the series as a whole. This would include: Matthew, Gordon, Simon, Ramon, Claudia, the Hamster, Rosa, Puzzlette and Keats (but as footnotes in Granny R's section), Curtis, Marco, Frederick, Annie, Celia, and Pierre. On the other hand, we should probably add Loosha. Hammerbrodude (talk) 18:12, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick note. I am going to go through with this if no objections are raised within five days.Emmy Altava 22:30, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I kind of agree with you on that one, especially when pertaining to Curtis, Marco, Amelia, Frederick, Celia, Annie and Pierre, all of whom appeared in Eternal Diva; out of the secondary characters in that film, I feel Amelia had more importance to the story and thus had more screen time, right?Visokor (talk) 22:36, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Precisely. Most of the contestants had names, flat personalities, and that's basically it. The Whistlers and Janice are obviously important enough to be kept (for now). I've opted to keep Amelia due to the fact that she's the only contestant who had an actual impact on the plot (in that she was Oswald's entire reason for acquiescing, and actually received some characterization), but even that information could probably be merged with Melina or Oswald, thinking it over. But at the moment, the most pressing issue would be getting rid of characters that are clearly not important (especially the contestants) so that the article is at least presentable.
And, just out of curiosity, is there any actual proof of Clive/Claire's surnames? I've been searching a bit, but I've failed at finding anything reliable. Emmy Altava 04:28, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I also noticed about Eternal Diva that all the other contestants disappeared from the film after certain parts, further divesting how they aren't important to the plot: Curtis, Frederick and Annie disappeared after the third puzzle, Celia and Pierre were not seen again after they fell into a trap from choosing the wrong door in the fourth puzzle, and Marco vanished after he was jumped (off-screen) by Descole's flunkies.Visokor (talk) 21:29, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So we've agreed that Eternal Diva's contestants aren't worth keeping around? Splendid. Now, we should probably draft a plan as to what the page should contain. My suggestion:

1. Main characters:
a-Professor Hershel Layton
b-Luke Triton
c-Emmy Altava
d-Flora Reinhold
e-Don Paolo
f-Jean Descole

2. Recurring characters:
a-Inspector Chelmey (merge Barton here)
b-Inspector Grosky
c-Granny Riddleton (merge Keats, Puzzlette here)
d-Dr. Andrew Schrader

3. Minor characters:
3.1 First season
a-Baron Reinhold
b-Lady Dahlia (merge Claudia and all of the other Reinholdbots here)
c-Katia Anderson
d-Anton Herzen
e-Mr. Beluga (merge Sammy Thunder here)
f-Clive
g-Claire
h-Dimitri Allen (merge Bill Hawks here)
3.2 Second season
a-Clark Triton (merge Brenda Triton here)
b-Arianna Barde (merge Tony Barde here, and although I suggested it, merge Loosha here before she even exists)
c-Chief Jakes
d-Janice Quatlane
e-Melina Whistler (Merge Amelia into here or Oswald... and honestly, maybe Melina herself could be moved into Oswald, I don't know.)
f-Oswald Whistler
g-Lando Ascad
h-Sharon Leidle (merge Henry Leidle here)
i-Broneph Reinel
3.3 Spin-offs
a-Phoenix Wright
b-Maya Fey
c-Alphendi Layton
d-Lucy Creila

This list is still probably much longer than it needs to be, but it still cuts out a lot of absolutely unnecessary weight by removing the following sections: Constable Barton, Matthew, Simon, Gordon, Ramon, Stachen, Claudia, Sammy Thunder, the Hamster with no name, Puzzlette, Bill Hawks, Rosa Grims/Grimes, Keats, Brenda Triton, Tony Barde, the Black Raven, Curtis O'Donnell, Marco Brock, Amelia Ruth, Fredrick Bargland, Annie Dretche, Celia Raidley, Pierre Starbuck, Alfredo Dalston, Shibarof, and Brummel.

Dang, that's a lot, and it's really kind of sad the only ones I even feel a pang of uncertainty about removing are Hawks, Stachen, and the Black Raven. Any objections? Emmy Altava 03:50, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We seem to have reached a consensus on most of the Eternal Diva contestants, at least, so I'll remove the clearly unimportant ones now. Emmy Altava 04:38, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'll go through with the aforementioned outline if nobody objects by the 25th, but in the meanwhile, the remainder of the people mentioned in the first paragraph, to which nobody has objected, are now being removed. Emmy Altava 21:16, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Okay, I've completed that restructuring, with a few slight alterations. I've decided that I'm also going to eliminate Chief Jakes, and I'm erasing the spin-off section entirely. Any objections? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Altava (talkcontribs) 22:05, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think that Alphendi Layton could be included briefly into Hershal Layton's section. Also if you are still working on this we should not use season because this is a game series not a TV show.--70.24.207.225 (talk) 21:52, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

This seems a bit odd to ask, but does anyone think that Emmy was based on Emmy Kano from Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah? I mean, oth have similar appearances and are similarly named too. Visokor (talk) 21:21, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Henry Ledore's voice actor[edit]

Henry's voiced by Matthew Mercer, not Liam O'Brien. If you check online, Wikipedia is the only page that says Liam voices him - everywhere else Matthew's credited for the role. Including Behind the Voice Actors and the Layton Wikia. ...Liam's role in the Miracle Mask was, instead, Officer Sheffield. Y'know, the Cockney police inspector at Monte d'Or?

While Leon Bronev's voice actor is Timothy Watson, not Tim Waston. ...Oh, and btw, Troy Baker plays Alphonse Dalston. Beldarius (talk) 01:51, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This article is being pruned and cleaned up[edit]

This list was put up on AfD. Other lists without sources were simply deleted or redirected but someone contested the redirect of this list by undoing the redirect. I didn't do the redirection nor the AfD nomination. I found this article from AfD listings and voted Keep as the subject matter's notable and the main article for the series: Professor Layton has already established that this list is the main descriptor of characters. However, ever since this article was created it hasn't had a single source. In addition a large amount of information was written of Hershel Layton even though he has his own article: Professor Hershel Layton. A notable complaint at the AfD was excessive game plot over characterization. I looked at better done character articles and that kind of policy seems to be standard. Plot is secondary at best where as characterization and behind-the-scene information about the birth and development of the character are much more wanted. I had to remove a large amount of simple spoilers of what happens to game characters. Most of the text will be concised to sourced characterizations. --Mr. Magoo (talk) 22:40, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've withdrawn the AfD. If you think you can improve the article, go for it! soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 08:02, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm skeptical of the available sourcing for this topic. Please ping me if another AfD or merge discussion comes out of this. I am no longer watching this page—ping if you'd like a response czar 04:37, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I suggest adding a few of the missing main characters — like Chelmey — to the characters section of the main article. The latter half of this list is pointless. Many of the characterisations are simply spoilers past a few words. There exists a Layton wiki with encompassing descriptions of the characters. Also see: Talk:Professor Layton#Merger proposal. --Mr. Magoo (talk) 23:49, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
