Table/chart versus bullet-list format?[edit]

Would this list be better formatted as a table/chart? Or is it good the way that it is now, as a bullet-list? Thoughts? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:36, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have started a table. Any thoughts? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 03:42, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note: In the case of Anthony Kirkland, the "Age of Offender At Offense" reflects Kirkland's age when he committed the first murder for which he was sentenced to death. Kirkland, a serial killer, was convicted of killing three women and two teenage girls between 1987 and 2009. He received the death penalty for murdering the two teenage victims: the first on May 4, 2006, when Kirkland was 37 years old; the second, some three years later, on March 7, 2009, when he was age 40. Kirkland was arrested on March 8, 2009, and sentenced to death on March 31, 2010. As of May 4, 2017, he has been incarcerated for 15 years and has been on Ohio's Death Row for 14 years. If Kirkland had been executed, as scheduled, on January 11, 2017, he would have been incarcerated for 7 years and on Ohio's Death Row for 6 years.

Note: In the case of Anthony Edward Sowell, the "Age of Offender At Offense" reflects Sowell's age at the time of his first capital offense. Sowell, a serial killer, was convicted of the murders of eleven women whose bodies were found in his house. His first known murder victim was killed c. May 2007, when Sowell was 47 years old. His last known murder victim was killed c. September 2009, when he was 50 years old. Sowell was arrested on October 31, 2009, and sentenced to death on August 12, 2011. As of May 4, 2017, he has been incarcerated for 14 years and has been on Ohio's Death Row for 12 years. If Sowell is executed, as scheduled, on November 18, 2020, he will have been incarcerated for 11 years and on Ohio's Death Row for 9 years.

Pennsylvania and Automatic Execution dates[edit]

States like Pennsylvania hand out automatic execution dates whenever an inmate finishes a round of appeals. The execution date isn't a true date and it will not be carried out, it is not meant to be carried out either. Pennsylvania along with a few other states should be ignored or just not listed due to this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:44:1:E237:1D14:B1CC:CDC9:E60E (talk) 17:37, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

About Michael Pruitt[edit]

At the time of this writing, this article lists Michael Pruitt as being scheduled to be executed on December 29, 2017. However, the source cited within the "References"-section ([1]) lists Michael Pruitt as "STAYED (LEGALLY PREMATURE WARRANT)" within the "Executions Scheduled for 2017"-section. Furthermore, within the source's "Stays of Execution 2017"-section, it lists Michael Pruitt and and says "Stay granted by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on December 4, 2017 to provide Pruitt the opportunity to pursue federal habeas corpus challenges to his conviction and sentence that are available to all criminal defendants.". If Michael Pruitt's execution has been stayed, shouldn't he be removed from the "List of offenders scheduled to be executed in 2017"-section and added to the "List of offenders previously scheduled to be executed"-section? About Austin Gregory Myers[edit]

At the time of this writing, Austin Gregory Myers is listed within the "2022"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section. However, at the time of this writing, the Death Penalty Information Center - Executions Scheduled for 2019-source lists Austin Myers's July 20, 2022-execution date as "DATE REMOVED". So shouldn't he be removed from the "2022"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section? I am not sure what the "Age of offender"-averages would be (This is why I am bringing this up on the talk page instead of editing the article myself). Heart of Destruction (talk) 12:37, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As a related issue, we should not be calculating our own average ages for these offenders. A case could be made that median age at execution is more meaningful than the mean age, but we should list neither if no reliable source lists them. We have “age at execution” listed for all of the non-executed people who are listed as no longer having execution dates. Larry Hockett (Talk) 11:22, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

About Oscar Franklin Smith[edit]

At the time of this writing, Oscar Franklin Smith is listed within the "2020"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section. However, at the time of this writing, the Death Penalty Information Center - Executions Scheduled for 2020-source lists Oscar Franklin Smith's June 4, 2020 execution date as "STAYED" and lists a February 4, 2021 execution date for him. So shouldn't he be moved to the "2021"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section? I am not sure what the "Age of offender"-averages would be (This is why I am bringing this up on the talk page instead of editing the article myself). Heart of Destruction (talk) 08:29, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the executions in this article are not (at the time of this writing) listed in the "Death Penalty Information Center"-source[edit]

At the time of this writing, several of the executions listed in this article are not listed in the "Death Penalty Information Center"-source. For example, at the time of this writing, Melvin D. Bonnell, Jr.'s March 18, 2021 execution, Quisi Bryan's October 26, 2022 execution, Charles Lorraine's March 15, 2023 execution, Gerald Robert Hand's May 17, 2023 execution, Michael D. Webb's July 19, 2023 execution, Jerome Henderson's September 14, 2023 execution, Bomani Shakur's November 16, 2023 execution, Scott A. Group's January 10, 2024 execution and John Stojetz's March 14, 2024 execution are not listed in the source in question. What is the source (or sources) for those executions? About Randall Wayne Mays[edit]

At the time of this writing, Randall Wayne Mays is listed within the "2020"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section. However, at the time of this writing, the Death Penalty Information Center - Executions Scheduled for 2020-source lists Randall Wayne Mays's May 13, 2020 execution date as "STAYED". So shouldn't he be removed from the "2020"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section and added to the "List of offenders previously scheduled to be executed"-section? About Ruben Gutierrez[edit]

At the time of this writing, Ruben Gutierrez is listed within the "2020"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section. However, at the time of this writing, the Death Penalty Information Center - Executions Scheduled for 2020-source lists Ruben Gutierrez's June 16, 2020 execution date as "STAYED". So shouldn't he be removed from the "2020"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section and added to the "List of offenders previously scheduled to be executed"-section? However, at the time of this writing, the Death Penalty Information Center - Executions Scheduled for 2020-source lists Byron Lewis Black's April 8, 2021 execution date as "STAYED". So shouldn't he be removed from the "2021"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section? I am not sure what the "Age of offender"-averages would be (This is why I am bringing this up on the talk page instead of editing the article myself). About Elwood Hubert Jones, Gregory Lott and Archie Dixon[edit]

I have found a source that claims that Elwood Hubert Jones's execution date has been delayed to Dec. 6, 2023, that Gregory Lott's execution date has been delayed to Feb. 15, 2024 and that Archie Dixon's execution date has been delayed to April 17, 2024 (Link). Should the offenders in question be moved to those dates within this article? Heart of Destruction (talk) 18:07, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

About the "Method"-sections for Ohio's scheduled executions[edit]

I have found a source from AP NEWS that says that lethal injection is no longer an option for Ohio executions. However, at the time of this writing, all of Ohio's scheduled executions listed within this article lists their "Method"-sections as "Lethal injection". Should the "Method"-sections for Ohio's scheduled executions within this article be changed to reflect that lethal injection is no longer an option for them? Maybe something along the lines of "Unknown" or "N/A"? Heart of Destruction (talk) 11:51, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Again, about Oscar Franklin Smith[edit]

At the time of this writing, Oscar Franklin Smith is listed within the "2021"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section. However, at the time of this writing, the Upcoming Executions-source lists Oscar Franklin Smith's February 4, 2021 execution date as "STAYED". So shouldn't he be removed from the "2021"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section? About Timothy L. Hoffner, John David Stumpf and Lawrence Alfred Landrum[edit]

At the time of this writing, Timothy L. Hoffner, John David Stumpf and Lawrence Alfred Landrum are listed within the "2021"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section. However, at the time of this writing, the "Upcoming executions"-source ([2]) lists Timothy L. Hoffner's August 11, 2021 execution date, John David Stumpf's September 15, 2021 execution date and Lawrence Alfred Landrum's December 9, 2021 execution date as "REPRIEVED" and lists a June 18, 2024 execution date for Timothy L. Hoffner, a August 13, 2024 execution date for John David Stumpf and a October 15, 2024 execution date for Lawrence Alfred Landrum. So shouldn't they be removed from the "2021"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section and added to the "2024"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section? Zane Floyd and method[edit]

Should this really be listed as "TBD"? My understanding is that NV's mode of death is lethal injection. No ifs ands or buts. It's just Zane Floyd trying to change that. But maybe he's gotten sufficiently far in his quest that NV really has no official mode of death anymore? YellowAries2010 (talk) 18:13, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

YellowAries2010, Sources say he is trying to request execution by firing squad though. Even if his request is denied there is no confirmation as of today. Until we know more I think it should be left as it is. Honestly, it's pretty unlikely he'll even be executed anyway. Inexpiable (talk) 18:21, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DOB Sources[edit]

Putting these here for my own reference and for any editor who wants to add an inmate to the list when an execution is scheduled but is unsure of a DOB. DOB's are harder to obtain now for certain states. For states like Texas and Florida they are easy to find but for states like Arizona, South Carolina and Alabama the DOC no longer releases this info. Thankfully for some states they can be seen using the Wayback Machine. I've only added states likely to schedule an execution, federal government and California are highly unlikely to schedule another execution.

Texas: Death row list

Florida: Death row list

Ohio: Death row list (refer to death row list and search for a specific offender here: Ohio offender search)

Both websites for Ohio can only be accessed from a USA IP. Can be viewed using USA Proxy for anyone not living in the USA: USA Proxy

Alabama: Death row list (Wayback Machine to 2012)

Tennessee: Death row list

Missouri: Search for the offender

Arizona: Death row list (Wayback Machine to 2008)

Idaho: Death row list (Wayback Machine to 2011)

South Carolina: Death row list (Wayback Machine to 2009; archived in 2016)

Georgia: Death row list (month and year of birth only)

Oklahoma: Death row list (refer to death row list and search for a specific offender here: Oklahoma offender search)

Pennsylvania: Death row list (excel table)

Mississippi: Death row list

Arkansas: Death row list

Indiana: Search for the offender

North Carolina: Death row list

Nevada: Search for the offender (only gives age; currently no way of getting a DOB)

Kentucky: Death row list

Should this be added to the list?[edit]

I have found a source that claims that a October 5, 2021 execution date has been set for Ernest Lee Johnson (Link). Should this be added to the list? Heart of Destruction (talk) 21:11, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rick Halperin lists him as well [3], so I would say yes.--Ymblanter (talk) 15:09, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BOLD just do it from now on, you don't need to keep asking on the talk page. Worse that happens is someone will revert it. Inexpiable (talk) 22:05, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of averages and Previous scheduled offenders sections[edit]

I am less active on Wikipedia now and most people don't seem to want to update these sections. I propose removing the previous scheduled offenders section altogether, as executions are stayed all the time and updating this list is very time consuming. It is ultimately deleted each year anyway. This article should focus purely on upcoming scheduled executions alone, and if executions are stayed they should just be removed from the list.

In addition, the average section at the bottom of each scheduled execution table for each year should be removed. Updating these numbers is very time consuming and with executions being added and stayed all the time this is constantly changing. I think it would better to keep the averages only for executions that have occurred. An example of how it would look from now on for the 2025 year:

Number Date of execution Name Date of birth Age of offender Gender Ethnicity State Method Source
At execution At offense Age difference
1 January 22, 2025 Sean Carter March 9, 1979 45 18 27 Male Black Ohio To be determined Profile: [4]
2 March 19, 2025 Shawn Michael Grate August 8, 1976 48 40 8 White Profile: [5]
3 May 20, 2025 James D. Worley April 8, 1959 66 57 9 Profile: [6]

What are peoples thoughts? I propose keeping averages only for executions that have occurred. If no feedback I will change this within a month. Inexpiable (talk) 10:03, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a little late to this, and it's already been modified. I, personally, liked this information charted rather than in paragraph form. Made it easier to keep track of cancelled executions (one of which has apparently been taken off the list today). It's just a piece of data I'm curious about. Plus, for those who are surviving victims of these criminals, if they are looking here for info, they might like to see that short summary of what happened to move or cancel their execution. The paragraphs would be okay, but as they are now, they are vague, referring sometimes to "one execution" rather than "the execution of...".
Just some thoughts. I admire those who put forth the effort at pages like this. YellowAries2010 (talk) 17:02, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is the info is deleted every year anyway so its a lot of work for nothing in the long run. With the situation in Ohio, every single one of those executions will be stayed indefinitely so it becomes tedious to keep updating the info. This article is about scheduled executions not stayed ones so a separate article would be more appropriate if someone really wants to keep track of that information. Also the constant average changes was becoming unbearable so now that will only be tracked for executions that actually go ahead. Inexpiable (talk) 18:06, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About James D. Tench[edit]

At the time of this writing, James D. Tench is listed within the "2022"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section. However, at the time of this writing, the Upcoming Executions-source ([7]) lists James D. Tench's September 14, 2022 execution date as "Legally premature death warrant. STAYED". So shouldn't he be removed from the "2022"-section of this article's "List of offenders scheduled to be executed"-section? I am not sure what the "Age of offender"-averages would be (This is why I am bringing this up on the talk page instead of editing the article myself). About Oklahoma's scheduled executions[edit]

At the time of this writing, this article lists seven executions scheduled in Oklahoma (John Marion Grant on October 7, 2021, Julius Darius Jones on October 28, 2021, Bigler Jobe Stouffer II on November 18, 2021, Wade Greely Lay on December 9, 2021, Donald Anthony Grant on December 30, 2021, Gilbert Ray Postelle on January 20, 2022 and James Allen Coddington on February 10, 2022). However, I have found a source that claims that the Oklahoma attorney general's office has pushed back its timetable for resuming executions, with the attorney general asking that John Marion Grant's execution date be set for October 28 or November 18 and that dates be set for six other executions at three-week intervals. Should John Marion Grant's execution date within this article be changed to something like "October 28, 2021/November 18, 2021" or something like that with the other Oklahoma executions being listed with three-week intervals? McLaughlin gender[edit]

There appears to be some confusion as to what gender should be selected for McLaughlin in the table due to them being transgender. I have asked for assistance here: Wikipedia:Help_desk#Gender_identity_question/concern but users can share their thoughts in this thread as to what they think should be listed because I honestly don't know. Thanks. Inexpiable (talk) 17:11, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What does Missouri Dept of Corrections say? (The link does not work for me, may be because I am not in the US). Ymblanter (talk) 09:11, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
On the other hand, DPIC uses "her" as pronoun. I would probably list female but add a footnote. Ymblanter (talk) 09:15, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Missouri Department of Corrections the name is Scott McLaughlin and the sex is male. The DPIC isn’t an official body whilst the Mo. DOC is. 82.35.68.117 (talk) 19:00, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not to mention, the death warrant also says Scott. Talmage (talk) 21:33, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About John Charles Eichinger in Pennsylvania[edit]

Should he really be removed from the list? I would say he should'nt, of course it's a date automatically set by George Little from the DOC, but noone can know what will happen, there is a new attorney general and the governor can only grant clemency if the board recommends it?! Should this be added to the list?[edit]

I have found a source that claims that a February 23, 2023 execution date has been set for Donald David Dillbeck (Link). Should this be added to the list? Heart of Destruction (talk) 08:55, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About Richard Eugene Glossip, Jemaine Monteil Cannon, Anthony Castillo Sanchez, Phillip Dean Hancock, James Chandler Ryan, Michael DeWayne Smith and Wade Greely Lay[edit]

I have found a source that claims that Richard Eugene Glossip's execution date has been delayed to May 18, 2023, that Jemaine Monteil Cannon's execution date has been delayed to July 20, 2023, that Anthony Castillo Sanchez's execution date has been delayed to September 21, 2023, that Phillip Dean Hancock's execution date has been delayed to November 30, 2023, that James Chandler Ryan's (I think they meant James Chandler Ryder) execution date has been delayed to February 1, 2024, that Michael DeWayne Smith's execution date has been delayed to April 4, 2024 and that Wade Greely Lay's execution date has been delayed to June 6, 2024 (Link). Should the people in question be moved to those dates within this article? Heart of Destruction (talk) 21:28, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not only this source claims it. Drummond has requested the changes a few days ago, someone should now change them, but I think that's too complicate for me... Klein Besserwisserchen (talk) 22:25, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Are the DOB's really necessary?[edit]

This is something I've questioned for a while but it seems quite pointless and irrelevant for each person to have their DOB listed in the table given we can see there ages anyway. I can see it being useful to calculate the ages but beyond that it doesn't seem necessary. Inexpiable (talk) 18:27, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Execution dates by the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals[edit]

Should the "old" dates of the inmates (excluded confirmed dates: Glossip, Cannon, Sanchez, Hancock, Ryder, Smith and Lay) stay in the list, the court has written that they "have not been confirmed" and they would "be addressed at an appropriate time in the future." For me this souds like they would be canceled and newly set!? My personal opinion: They should be removed until there are new dates. Klein Besserwisserchen (talk) 09:14, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited the 2023-section, 2024 I want to edit tomorrow, or someone else will do, that is not in my hand. Klein Besserwisserchen (talk) 23:06, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

All "old" dates are removed now. Klein Besserwisserchen (talk) 06:39, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Although the dates will be later addressed, they are still official death warrants and have not been cancelled. Drummond also said that only the next executions in the future will be changed and others will be reviewed at a later date so don’t think they have been cancelled. That is also the position of the DPIC which I noticed is often sourced here. Dashing24 (talk) 16:13, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Dashing24: Yes, some execution dates were pushed back, but most of the dates (phases three, four and five) are, as the order of the court reads, "not confirmed" anymore - they are not intended to be carried out anymore or just will expire and new dates will be set. In this cases they should be removed from the list. You can compare this to dezember when G.R. Pizzuto jr. was removed from the list because it was known that the death warrant would expire without an execution. In general I understand what you mean, maybe there should be a section with cancelled execution or a mark to show executions which definitely will not be carried out - but this isn't my decision. Klein Besserwisserchen (talk) 16:59, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They might still be carried out but it is sensible to wait for an update from the court. Dashing24 (talk) 08:01, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Florida execution[edit]

I realize that the electric chair is probably still a backup method down there, but everything I see regarding this case seems to point to lethal injection being used when the time comes. This execution is listed as TBD regarding method. Anybody familiar with this? YellowAries2010 (talk) 00:25, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Execution of John Balentine[edit]

The TDCJ set Balentine back on the list. He now is -since two days already- listed again as scheduled for the old date, 02/08/2023. Neither newspapers nor the dpic lists his execution as scheduled again, but the tdcj is the official site, maybe it should be trusted more than the other sources. About Oklahoma's scheduled executions[edit]

At the time of this writing, this article says "On June 10, 2022, the Attorney General of Oklahoma, John M. O'Connor, asked the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals to set execution dates for 25 death row inmates. He requested the executions occur every four weeks on a Thursday, commencing on August 25.[3] On July 1, 2022, the schedule was confirmed, with all 25 executions scheduled to occur before the end of 2024.[2]". However, as of this writing, four of those death row inmates have been executed, another seven have had their execution dates delayed, and the other fourteen are not (at the time of this writing) listed in this article. For these reasons, I would like to propose that the stuff about John M. O'Connor asking the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals to set the execution dates and the executions being set be removed from the "Summary of scheduled executions"-section. Heart of Destruction (talk) 20:03, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Should this be added to the list?[edit]

I have found two sources that claim that a April 6, 2023 execution date has been set for Aaron Gunches (Link and link). Should this be added to the list? Heart of Destruction (talk) 09:03, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About Ohio's scheduled executions[edit]

At the time of this writing, the source cited for Ohio's scheduled executions ([11]) lists eight people who (at the time of this writing) are not listed in this article: Anthony Kirkland (September 18, 2024), Arron Lawson (January 6, 2026), Joseph McAlpin (May 19, 2026), Kristofer Garrett (January 27, 2027), Michael Madison (May 15, 2024), Shawn Grate (March 19, 2025), Terry Froman (November 13, 2024) and Victoria Drain (November 24, 2026). While I understand why Shawn Grate is not (at the time of this writing) listed in this article (at the time of this writing, the Upcoming Executions source lists Shawn Grate's March 19, 2025 execution date as "Legally premature - STAYED"), why are Anthony Kirkland's, Arron Lawson's, Joseph McAlpin's, Kristofer Garrett's, Michael Madison's, Terry Froman's and Victoria Drain's execution dates not (at the time of this writing) listed in this article? Jedidiah Murphy[edit]

At the time of this writing, the "Upcoming Executions"-source ([12]) lists Jedidiah Isaac Murphy as being scheduled for execution in Texas on October 10, 2023 and, at the time of this writing, the source about Texas's scheduled executions ([13] lists "Murphy, Jedidiah" as being scheduled for execution on 10/10/2023. I think he should be added to the list, but I think it is too complicated for me to add him to the list myself (This is why I am bringing this up on the talk page instead of editing the article myself). Alabama issues death warrant without date after new law that changed the rules for executions[edit]

The Supreme Court of Alabama now issues death warrants without the exact date because Kay Ivey now will determine the date and time. A few days ago such one was issued for James Barber, but now it isn't possible to write him in the list. If alabama continues the practice of executing on Thursdays and observes the 30-day period from execution order to the day of execution, the likely date will be June 8. Should I put him on list for this date? Maybe with notice? Klein Besserwisserchen (talk) 16:33, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • The source says sometime after June 2. DPIC lists it as June 3, (that is the date it should probably be listed as for now), even though it's unlikely to occur on that exact date, it can be changed when we know more. Inexpiable (talk) 17:29, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Or just list it as June 2023, without specifying the exact date. Inexpiable (talk) 17:31, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Add or Change: At Offence to Time on Death Row/At Initial Sentencing[edit]

Many look to Time from offence to sentence as how long the appeals process has taken. However in many cases people get sentenced many years after the crime, see Dixon in Arizona. For a better picture on specifically how long the appeals process takes; I suggest a Time on Death Row or Time from Initial Sentencing (mutually exclusive terms). In an ideal world I would add this but am asking here to make sure people are okay with an expansion (or replacement as the less preferable alternative). Dashing24 (talk) 10:58, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That will literally take forever to do as these pages date back to the year 2000 and that is how it has always been done. I would leave it as it is. Inexpiable (talk) 11:25, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I tend to agree. However I propose to add a note for cases like Dixon. Coton de tige (talk) 21:04, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New unknown execution date for Ivan Cantu[edit]

Texas death row inmate Ivan Cantu got a stay of execution this April. Court listings from the docket from Collin show that on August 31 a new date was set. But as the documents are confidental and not publicly disclosed we do not know the date. Should we make it as we did it with Barber in al? @Larry Hockett: It's not speculation, attorney generals have filed motions for their dates to be set. Christophervincent01 (talk) 01:17, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think this is speculation: An Attorney General (in some states), County or Districs Attorneys (in other states) can request execution dates. But this doesn´t automatically imply they will actually get a date because other instances have to decide about it ( State Supreme Courts etc.). So the question is where you draw the line between inmates that will receive a date and those who won´t receive one for sure. It looks like you wan´t to take the request of a date as this line. But that is quiete arbitrary. Furthermore, in other states executions are not predictable (e.g. Florida). So would you like to add all inmates on Florida´s death row with exhausted appeals if DeSantis would say he´d like to executed the ´´bad apples´´ on death row? Because he actually did.
So my problem here is the wording. The idea in general is not bad, no. How about this: Instead of ´´list of people set to receive an execution date´´ how about this: ´´list of people with a pending request to set a date of execution´´, or at least something like that... this would set a clear line which inmate should be added and it would not imply that they will get a date of execution Klein Besserwisserchen (talk) 09:12, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree Plpledge (talk) 10:29, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
