PM

Has somebody Forgotton Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was India's Prime minister from independence of India in 1947 to his death in 1964?Samitus mallicus 12:44, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

The name of the constituencies, from where Mr Devegouda & Mr Gujral won Lok Sabha elections should be written instead of the name of the states Karnataka & Bihar. Mr Man Mohan Singh is the only PM, who has never won a Lok Sabha election. It should be mentioned that he is Rajya Sabha member from Assam state.

Someone may put photograph of Mr Shastri & Mr Devegouda also, which are missing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Consultsharma (talkcontribs) 14:50, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Numbering scheme

I'm a tad confused here. Shouldn't the interim prime ministers not be numbered? I need to know as I was attempting to fix the corresponding bios. GoodDay (talk) 18:28, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

The current PM's source, says he's the 13th, not the 14th & source of Rajvi Gandhi, says sixth not seventh. I shall commenced with the corrections. GoodDay (talk) 18:33, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

The current PM's profile on PMO site mention that he is 14th PM of India. Also the note j clarifies it. Hence, I am editing the numbers. Alok Bansal (talk) 14:29, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

I'm reopening the conversation on numbering, due to a steadily developing edit war. There seem to be plenty of online sources for both Narendra Modi as the 14th Prime Minister, and the 15th Prime Minister. Unless we can find a rationale to either include or exclude Gulzarilal Nanda, I propose that we remove the numbering from the list entirely. LookLook36 (talk) 11:10, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
Gulzarilal Nanda was the Acting PM on two different periods, not a regular PM. So, he shouldn't be numbered. There are countless lists of officeholders on WP, and its nearly impossible to find a list where acting officeholders are numbered in the same way as regular ones... I fully support any compromise on numbering Nanda. I just can't support neither his exclusion from the list, nor the removal of numbering from the list. --Sundostund (talk) 11:37, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
LookLook36 and Sundostund, there's already a broader discussion here, where others and I have made our points with sources etc. Please join the discussion there.—indopug (talk) 11:59, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Shouldn't the current prime minister be the fourteenth?

According to the official Web site of the Prime Minister's Office (http://pmindia.gov.in/meet.htm), Singh is the fourteenth Prime Minster of India. This is an official source, and I believe that it should be treated as an accurate source of information. I would welcome further discussion on this topic, otherwise I believe the numbering should be changed to reflect Singh as the fourteenth Prime Minister of India. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Naveah (talkcontribs) 05:05, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

There always has been confusion about how to treat Gulzari lal Nanda - was he a proper prime minister of just the interim one. De jure, there is no provision for an "interim pm" in any of india's laws, but "de facto" he is treated as one. Either one is fine with me, but we should be consistent across all articles.--Sodabottle (talk) 05:56, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Offcourse, He is the 14th Prime Minister. I don't think there's any need to consider Gulzari Lal Nanda. If we will consider him, then we will need to do so twice. So 14th ia the correct Vendettazu (talk) 01:43, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

Any thoughts? It may or may not work in practise, but the idea of adding key decisions/pieces of legislation etc is at the very least worthy of consideration. —WFCFL wishlist 13:23, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Low res, but free images of the previous PMs of India

Here at the Press Information Bureau.

Perhaps replace the non-free images of Gulzarilal Nanda and Lal Bahadur Shastri?

--RaviC (talk) 08:57, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Kindly correct the photo of Shri Devgauda ji which is depicted as Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Photo removed. Can't find one of dewa gowda. --regentspark (comment) 15:53, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Reorder

I propose to reverse the order in which PMs are displayed, recent should be on top and oldest should be on bottom. This is a better practice -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 14:27, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

Capankajsmilyo, lists of this nature are usually chronological. A list in reverse order of chronology will look odd. --regentspark (comment) 16:12, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
RegentsPark, you are right - lists of officeholders on English Wikipedia are almost always chronological, from the first officeholder to the current one. A list in reverse order would look really odd, and I would never support such change. --Sundostund (talk) 13:39, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia problem

I tried adding content to a few pages many times but after I save it, it changes back to normal. Anshika126 (talk) 13:11, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

You keep vandalizing the page, and your vandalism is then reverted - Arjayay (talk) 13:39, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Map of India

The colour code map shows 2 PMs have born in Punjab. But both the PMs that are I.K. Gujral and Dr.Manmohan Singh are born in Punjab province which lies in Pakistan on present day and not in the state of Punjab mentioned in the map. So I think the colour for state of Punjab should be purely white. Ekansh Roy (talk) 03:44, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

They were born in Punjab before partition of India in 1947. At that time Punjab province included both east and west Punjab, so technically they are native of the state of Punjab of IndiaDHSULP (talk) 11:03, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

The Indian map shows that there has been a Prime Minister from the state of Maharashtra. There hasn't been one. This is a classic example of showing something untrue, misguiding people on history and preventing future generations from seeking justice and rising to the top. Multiple bad elements seems to do this on the internet, which actually works against the state of Maharashtra. Please rectify this so that it will be clear how the state of Maharashtra has been cheated and taken advantage of by other state's politicians. 49.36.1.182 (talk) 10:08, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

Can a picture of Jawahar lal nehru be inserted before the current pm of india because when searching for india's first PM,google returns back the photo of PM Modi instead of Jawahar lal nehru. Rohit7258 (talk) 05:52, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Not done - I assume you are talking about this news report, but it appears Google have already sorted this out, as a google search for "India's first prime minister" now returns Jawaharlal Nehru - Arjayay (talk) 10:02, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Just to add another point here, that even if this was not sorted out, this is not Wikipedia's problem. This is Google's problem. Adamgerber80 (talk) 04:56, 28 April 2018 (UTC)

Prior Office

There seems to be a dispute on the prior office column of the prime minsters. Personally I find this column irrelevant and hereby request to come to a consensus here. Till the mean time I am removing the prior office column which can be restored after due discussion. Amal biyani (talk) 11:48, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

New sections for charts by political parties

I'm wondering if my proposal to add up an additional list to article is considered as it is not there in other similar articles. The list listing up Indian Prime Ministers by lengths of their tenure, the bar graph & table displaying number of prime Ministers from an Indian political party as well as and the time period attained by any party when it got its member as a Prime Minister (regardless of alliance). This is the list of Prime Ministers of India. It will be better and more informative it holds up their list in all respects along with relevant data. I will be drafting and adding some more data soon without talking as I'm not hopeful of getting any discussion for improvement on the talk page given the level of activity. Fellow editors may feel free to take up the issue with edits if they feel any. Best Regards Aman.kumar.goel (talk) 19:14, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Pinging @Yashthepunisher: as he took this list in it's original form to FL status. Prima facie i do not agree with many changes done to the list post the FLC approval. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 07:51, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
I have restored the article to its original form. Echoing Dharmadhyaksha, I also don't feel any of the changes made by Aman goel are necessary, and instead border on redundancy. This is a "list" of prime minister. There is a separate article about the PM of India, and most of the stuff you have been trying to push into this, belongs in the parent article. Yashthepunisher (talk) 18:04, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
@Yashthepunisher: I was just looking to summarize the data what is frequently asked and discussed in discussions or tests. Without any humble suggestion of anyone now, I'm not even going to add it in Prime Minister of India either. I still think that stat would be relevant however. PS, I'm not the one who restored that version on page recently. If you are going to revert, I think Living Former PM section can be spared. Regards Aman Kumar Goel(Talk) 06:19, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

The number of days for PM Narendra Modi is shown as 5 years, 260 days as on February 14, 2020. It is actually 5 years, 264 days. please do the calculations again and correct the error Wizedom2020 (talk) 15:18, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

Not done - I have just looked at it and it says 5 years, 264 days - are you looking at a mirror site or a cached copy? - Arjayay (talk) 15:44, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

Term of office

Why the terms are broken up? Term should be continuous. For example List of presidents of the United States of America and List of prime ministers of the United Kingdom both have continuous terms. We already a separate column for Lok Sabha mentioned the Lok Sabha. For Nehru it should be 1947 to 1964. Its not like they left office for 1 day. Manasbose (talk) 09:42, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Length of tenure

In the length of tenure, all (INC/INC(I)/INC(R)) are clubbed together but JD and JD(S) not clubbed together. Its inconsistency for the users. Need to reconsider this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kirantelukunta (talkcontribs) 21:08, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
