Remove teams that no longer exist[edit]

I propose that this section be cleaned up to only list teams that actually exist today. Otherwise this page will continue to grow and teams pop in and out of various competitions.War (talk) 20:48, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Prairie View A&M University[edit]

Prairie View A & N University which is located in Prairie View, Texas participated in SunRaycer 1995. The course was from Indianapolis, IN to Golden, CO. That was the only time it entered. Their car did finish the race. Their psrticipation is significant because that was the only race in which a historically Black institution has participated. Thr originsl faculty advisor was Paul Smith and the subsequent faculty advisor was James O. Morgan,

The website for Prairie View A&M University references a solar car project (although there's little detail), so I have included it in the list. Please add the other relevant data into the table. Bry9000 (talk) 00:11, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

significance of the # column[edit]

What does the number in the '#' (number) column mean. Its not the number of cars produced, its not the place in which its finished, and it is not the order in which it entered a race. It's the entrant number assigned to that team's car (painted on the side of the vehicle, analogous to the number on the back of an athlete's jersey). The number often stays the same over time, but it can change from car to car, and even depending upon which race it's in. Bry9000 (talk) 12:24, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah in that case it is strange that many cars in the list have the -same- number, or a completely nonsensical one. examples:
  • The Xof1 has no 00
  • both the japanese kars of kyocera -and- toyota have #8.
  • The "Montana State University" car has #404, were there really 404 cars in the rally?
at the very least an explanation should be given what the number means, and why the above phenomenons might occur. If the numbers can be from different races, then the name/date of the race should also be given. as it is now the numbers are more puzzling than informative. Showing the car number doesn't add much value -- it's only used by race administrators to keep track of which car is which. Moreover, correctly identifying which number goes to which car in which race and year could potentially take up a lot of space (Example: Michigan was car #2 in Sunrayce 1990, car #1 in Sunrayce 93, car #35 in the WSC in 1993, and yet other numbers at other times). Yes, or completely revamp this column. Move the column behind the column of the name of the car, which is a much more logical place for it, because both are "car identifiers". Plus the number must always be the one of the last car of that series of cars, and a small explanation of what the column is for should be added.
