Spelling of name[edit]

His surname was spelled Zagalo until at least the 1970s. Can anyone find the reason for the change and add it to the article? Thanks. Jess Cully 12:37, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was spelled Zagalo until the 1990s, when one reporter asked him how he should spell it. The rest of the media quickly followed suit. Alex Bellos tells the story in his Futebol. Macgreco 03:13, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Coaching Career - player & manager winning World Cup[edit]

Hi, there is an information that Zagallo was the first person who won World Cup as a player and manager. Please verify it. It seems the first one was Franz Beckenbauer (1974, 1990). 185.13.106.203 (talk) 01:56, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Zagallo was 1958/1962 and 1970. He had both before Beckenbauer had either. Unknown Temptation (talk) 13:19, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right, anon and UT. It seems funny there's only one who is now alive. 41.58.54.167 (talk) 17:16, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question about World Cup Title as "coordinator"[edit]

Mario Zagallo is listed as having won four World Cups with 1994 as "coordinator", not manager like in 1970. Would this be equivalent to assistant manager? I've looked around and haven't seen a picture of him with a 1994 Winner's medal. DuckhorseScaloni (talk) 13:47, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace[edit]

When looking for a source for his birth date I found that the current source in the article for his birthplace states he was born in Atalaia. However, some other sources such as this one state he was born in Maceió on 9 August 1931. Torimem (talk) 19:02, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
