A fact from Marcus Adams (Canadian football) appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 17 May 2016 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Corrected the typos and added references in most situations. There's two things I wanted to discuss further.
"Adams went on to play eight seasons with the Roughriders." is a statement which is thoroughly sourced in the below sections, so providing a single source saying this seems superfluous. That two sentence section is essentially a "lead" for his professional career. WP:CITELEAD states that we should balance minimizing redundant citations with the need to cite sources inline when information is likely to be challenged. While that consideration is presented in the context of a true lead section, the sentiment remains when handling summary style text later on in the article. I can add a citation if you consider it absolutely necessary (the original CPFE2012 cite verifies his eight seasons on the team), but it would be unusual to provide a citation for that when it's more thoroughly cited in further sections.
Nate Davis is another defensive lineman who played for the Roughriders at the time. If I were to mention either aspect, though, it would be redundant; Adams obviously wouldn't be starting in place of another team's player, and he obviously wouldn't be starting as a defensive lineman in place of a quarterback. Is there a specific characteristic of Davis you'd like me to mention? The wikilink covers his basic info, as it's designed to do. ~ Rob13Talk18:08, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clarifying. I don't think it is vital for a citation to be included for the eight seasons statement after what you have revealed to me. With Davis, there isn't any characteristic of Davis that I wanted to be stated, other than who he is but you have convinced me otherwise. Other than that, I can pass this review.
